Do you have a holiday booked for the Easter break and, if so, where to and are you still planning to go!

The way it's going we may well all be safer in other countries than the UK!

Womenwotlunch · 13/03/2020 17:42

Maldives in three weeks. Dh wants to go, I am not sure

QueenofmyPrinces · 13/03/2020 17:47

Me and DH have decided to cancel our Turkey to holiday in the middle of April. It’s a lot of money down the drain but we aren’t prepared to risk it.

AriadneCrete · 13/03/2020 17:53

I’m supposed to be going to the Maldives over Easter. I’m still planning to go but will wait and see if there’s any official advice.

BackInTime · 13/03/2020 18:00

Many employers are now advising employees against all travel abroad business and personal. Businesses are going to struggle as it is without employees adding to the risk of catching it and bringing it back to the workplace.

Orange89 · 13/03/2020 18:00

Booked to go to Thailand 14th April. Really would rather foreign office cancel. Only paid for flights but a lot of people also saying mad if we don’t go. We’ve decided we will as seems to be less cases there but if the foreign office advised not to go I would be more than happy. The holiday will not be the same but we will most likely be going unless it got worse. I am going to take a extra precautions when back even if not showing symptoms. Not really a holiday though with all this worry but we’re travelling with friends and feel a bit obliged and along with the money we would lose to go to an otherwise amazing place.

DorsetCamping · 13/03/2020 18:10

Yes, supposedly Turkey on 8th April Sad

QueenofmyPrinces · 13/03/2020 18:16

That’s when we were supposed to be flying out to Turkey too. If there are four empty seats near you then they will be mine Grin

Cyprus for us, and they announced today anyone going in has to immediately self isolate for a fortnight. The holiday is only a week!

Jet2 and TUI have cancelled their flights but the flight part of our package is with EasyJet so we need them to cancel. Also need FCO to update their guidance too as they’re currently only saying to avoid travel to the north of Cyprus!

Does beg the question of whether to try and find someone with no Covid and no restrictions, postpone til May or just cancel.

Fallulah · 13/03/2020 18:20

Someone? Somewhere!

Minesabecks · 13/03/2020 18:21

I was expecting to lose the money from our European flights with easyJet this Easter, but I see we can rebook with easyJet without a fee at the moment - BUT you can't book for next Easter, just up to October, the flights are more expensive and it's not someone I wanted to go to in October. Better than losing all the money, worse than getting a refund.

But the UK is an affected country! Why would you want to risk bringing the disease into an area that has so far managed to avoid it??

blue25 · 13/03/2020 18:28

It’s just not the time to be going through airports and travelling on a plane. We’ve cancelled. I’d hate to be ill while abroad, quarantined or unable to get home.

Fallulah · 13/03/2020 18:32

”But the UK is an affected country! Why would you want to risk bringing the disease into an area that has so far managed to avoid it??”

That’s why I said it was a question.
If more people had asked themselves this question earlier, when the UK was an unaffected country, we wouldn’t be in the situation we now find ourselves in!

NaughtyLittleElf · 13/03/2020 18:34

Thankfully we only have a UK holiday booked, I have insurance which will cover us if me or DD are poorly and the holiday park should refund or offer an alternative date if they close, worse case scenario I lose a few hundred pounds and we have a week at home. If the cattery Dcat is booked into closes who knows.

My main concern about travelling abroad would be getting stranded there, work and school are unlikely to be sympathetic and we'd have a dog and cat in boarding and no one to collect them.

BretonKitten · 13/03/2020 18:36

We were going to be going to Madrid for a week at the beginning of May.

We’ve cancelled the apartment (within free cancellation period) and EasyJet are letting us move our flights free of charge.

Realistically, I don’t think it with be feasible to travel there again til August or September, and even that is being pretty optimistic about secondary waves of infection after initial lockdowns cease.

Silverstreaks · 13/03/2020 18:40

We've got flights booked to visit DH family in Australia over the Easter holidays. Qantas are still sending reassuring cleanliness and airline air quality emails out. My gut feeling is that Australia will also suspend flights from Europe including the UK. Obviously we really want to go but I'd be concerned about getting stuck in Aus or in transit in Dubia.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 13/03/2020 18:46

Italy on April 6th. Which won't be refunded or changed at the moment as, although the gov advice has no end date on the 'do not travel' advice, because the lockdown is until the 3rd, TUI deem it to mean that all will be well after that and won't cancel that holiday until the lockdown dates are extended.

There are additional costs of parking and hotel at the airport that I want to claim back, and can under their terms, but I don't want to leave it too late to be able to do that. So I'm checking from time to time to see whether the Italy lockdown is still expected to finish on the 3rd, considering their cases are still raising.

This is absolutely deplorable.

MsSafina · 13/03/2020 18:57

Cancel now. The situation is changing rapidly and you may be stuck somewhere and not able to get back.

hannabarbera · 13/03/2020 19:01

Budapest. I will still go if flights are ok. I aint cancelling.

If its a no go and the country says no access, we’ll go another time.

Jantolee · 13/03/2020 19:04

I'm due to fly to Australia next week to visit my elderly parents. My dad hasn't been well over the last year and I haven't been able to go for a few years. It has been difficult to get the leave from work and it may not be possible to go later in the year. I'm wondering whether it would be selfish to still go, scared I might pass something on to them but also it would be awful if I end up not getting to see my dad again. I don't know what to do

Fallulah · 13/03/2020 19:33

’This is absolutely deplorable’

So is wandering around, going to the pub, going to ski lodges etc when you’ve been in contact with the virus. So is continuing to send your coughing children to school because you don’t want to to take time off work or refuse to follow advice about isolation (I’m a teacher - one particular class was awful today). But people have done those things.

I love how you’ve both jumped on me when I only vocalised a question. I didn’t say what we were going to do, which is in all honesty trying to cancel.

Tessatea · 13/03/2020 19:37

I'm in Stockholm now. Asked DP if he still wanted to go, but he said he didnt want to waste his money.

I have a cough now and not finding it easy to breathe, but I was fine when I arrived yesterday. But that could be down to travelling and dehydration.

Not many swedes are wearing masks. People are still out socialising. Everything normal. Not seeing many tourists though- cold weather maybe?

WokClock · 13/03/2020 19:59

For those who are still planning on going, are you not worried about getting ill whilst abroad? And dealing with foreign hospitals? I still don’t think people understand how nasty the virus can be
