Stay at home for one week if you’ve a cold (even though all evidence is that incubation is two weeks)

People over 70 don’t go on cruises.

WHAT!!!

134 new cases in a day and no action. 13 EU countries have closed all schools, another 11 partial closures but apparently no action needed in Uk.

Jesus.

It's mutated
Viruses mutate constantly and they tend to mutate in the direction of reduced virulence...a parasite always 'wants' to live in harmony with its host if it can

MarshaBradyo · 14/03/2020 13:40

I didn’t say contain.

I said no one can do that past China style.

Flatten.

alloutoffucks · 14/03/2020 13:41

@UYScuti No they don't. Viruses mutate and become more virulent or less virulent. There are no certainties.

Sunshine1239 · 14/03/2020 13:42

China first observed it in November and only lockdown in January/Feb so didn’t act right away anyway! It was mainly in one province not all over China

alloutoffucks · 14/03/2020 13:43

@MarshaBradyo Every other country and WHO are trying to contain this virus. That is their policies.
Except the British Government. We are at odds with everywhere.

UYScuti · 14/03/2020 13:43

If the Chinese doctor who first alerted the authorities hadn't been silenced by the Chinese government then the outbreak could have been contained at the source!
the Chinese government didn't want the world to know about the nasty things that were going on in the wet markets so they made the doctor keep quiet
In order to save themselves from embarrassment China has jeopardized the health of the rest of the world

MarshaBradyo · 14/03/2020 13:43

No we are just trying to flatten the curve using different methods.

Merkel has shut schools and still states 70% will get it.

MarshaBradyo · 14/03/2020 13:44

Yes UY l - great they’re through it but we’re all in serious shit.

Moomin8 · 14/03/2020 13:45

Apparently the government have pushed through a law to force schools to stay open

MarshaBradyo · 14/03/2020 13:45

Or close
Both - Apparently

alloutoffucks · 14/03/2020 13:45

Yes the lock down area is enormous. China is an enormous place. Yes they should have lock downed much sooner. Yes the policies they finally put in place are working. It is not spreading to the whole population in China. Why do you think 60% of the whole population in China did not get it?
And we are a much richer country than China with far better infrastructure.

Nobody is saying this is easy to eradicate, it is hard. But many many scientists are saying it can be eradicated.
Our Government is saying it is just too much hard work though.

UYScuti · 14/03/2020 13:47

China doesn't want the rest of the world sticking its nose into their business because of the human rights abuses that they are perpetrating, so anything that looks like bad publicity they just try to suppress it

effingterrified · 14/03/2020 13:49

Do wonder how many foreign trolls spreading disinformation on this.

effingterrified · 14/03/2020 13:50

Johnson's plans are certainly not in the interests of ordinary UK citizens.

Sunshine1239 · 14/03/2020 13:51

Not they’re not saying it’s too hard
They’re saying it’s better long term to build immunity at this stage - as every other country did! The others only closed schools etc this week and they’re levels are 3-4x more than ours

There’s nothing to say they won’t close schools next week

Why the obsession with closing schools? So many emergency services have young kids. We need them to work! I work in emergency services and I’m needed at work! It’ll be people like me the sick rely on and you want to bring I measured which result in us staying home

sertralinehelp · 14/03/2020 13:52

Agree with everything SueEllenMishke said.

sertralinehelp · 14/03/2020 13:53

sunshine below even

nellodee · 14/03/2020 13:53

People keep talking about timing this so it hits in the summer, not the winter. What they don't realise is that if the number they say are going to get it do so, it won't matter one jot whether it's in winter or summer. It will be a case of in summer, we would be 2000 beds short. In winter, we would only be 1950 beds short. Will this really matter?

alloutoffucks · 14/03/2020 13:54

@Sunshine1239 Yes they are saying it is too hard to wipe out this virus in the UK. That is exactly what they are saying.
Unlike every other government, WHO and lots of scientists.

NellyGrace · 14/03/2020 13:54

Has anyone got a link to this law yo force schools to stay open?

Moomin8 · 14/03/2020 13:55

The others only closed schools etc this week and they’re levels are 3-4x more than ours

I've just spoken to a relative in Sicily and she says the school there have been closed since early February

sertralinehelp · 14/03/2020 13:55

It's a bit worrying that China are being praised for their response and distrust in our own government is the trendy new thing to do.

They dumped soil on the roads in Wuhan and told people they couldn't leave. Is that what you would prefer?

I'm pleased we are taking a measured response. I think in the weeks to come when shit hits the fan, more measures like school closures will be considered again. But for the time being keeping them open is the right thing to do. I'm trusting the scientists and experts on this, not hysterical forum posters.

nellodee · 14/03/2020 13:56

I got that back to front, but you get the idea.

DoubleAction · 14/03/2020 13:56

FGS how can anyone force a school to stay open?. If all the staff are sick it will have to close. Boris himself said school closures are likely, just not yet.

nellodee · 14/03/2020 13:57

Hysterical forum posters like Jeremy Hunt, the director of the World Health Organisation and the editor of the Lancet?
