I’ve followed all advice to not buy more than I need ,baring in mind people on lower incomes who can’t afford to stock up .
So I’ve just been to Tesco to do my weekly shop ,and not a single toilet roll to be had ...
NOT EVEN ONE ,on any shelves.
I spoke to the manager and asked why stocks were not limited to one pack per person ,he didn’t care in the slightest, told me the delivery gets in at 4 am
Is that now what I have to do ,get up at 4 am just to get loo roll.

Our local Asda only had 4 packs but home bargains had 9 packs luckily.

It's ridiculous

Babyroobs · 11/03/2020 17:02

Same in the village where I live, not a single roll.

PurpleDaisies · 11/03/2020 17:02

My local supermarkets are fine.

Springsnake · 11/03/2020 17:03

It’s just selfish ,and unnecessary

I keep seeing this but the shops I have been to this week have all had plenty. It seems to be certain area that people are going nuts.

CharlotteCollinsneeLucas · 11/03/2020 17:04

My local supermarkets are fine.

Oh well, that's all right then. Confused

Finfintytint · 11/03/2020 17:04

You are confusing stockpiling with panic buying. The stockpilers prepared months and months ago. A little bit at a time. You are right to be critical of panic buyers though.

clayspaniel · 11/03/2020 17:04

The panic buying is ridiculous- DH saw someone buy 54 loo rolls yesterday! I normally get home delivery - book on a Wednesday for next day but today no slots for today or tomorrow. No loo roll and no pasta.

AlfieandAnnieRose · 11/03/2020 17:05

I went to Aldi this morning at around 9.30am and the shelves were full. Loads of toilet roll, medicine and even found some antibacterial hand gel! I didn’t see many with trolleys full either.
I don’t know if it makes a difference to go in the morning but Sainsbury’s a few days ago also had toilet roll, and that was in the morning too

Worriedmum54321 · 11/03/2020 17:06

Don't really get why it affects those on low incomes more than anyone else...if it's not there you can't buy it, even if you could afford to.
It would also be selfish not to stock up and then go shopping when you are ill.
Surely you can do without loo roll for a week or two anyway?

AlfieandAnnieRose · 11/03/2020 17:06

My post is to give you hope that there are some shops out there with toilet roll etc

PurpleDaisies · 11/03/2020 17:07

Don't really get why it affects those on low incomes more than anyone else
Because it’s much easier to shop elsewhere or buy a more expensive brand if you’re not on a low income.

Devlesko · 11/03/2020 17:09

All our town centre has them, but best to get there in the morning.
hand sanitizer is usually in about 8.30 in Home bargains, B&M, poundland, savers etc.
You should have stocked up OP, buying an extra pack wasn't the problem it was people buying 2+ extra packs.
Those who are high risk are staying in until way after Easter, to avoid the worst. They need to be able to wipe their arses the same as you.
I have one extra pack of 18, shot me.

Springsnake · 11/03/2020 17:09

It is particularly an issue where we live ,I wonder if everyone knows something I don’t.
I’ve also tried doing my on line shop ,and it won’t let me put any loo roll in the basket ,it just says out of stock next to all loo rolls

OP posts:
PurpleDaisies · 11/03/2020 17:10

Oh well, that's all right then.

I posted that mine are fine to try and stop threads like these making panic buying worse. Mine are fine. I bet lots of other places are too. If people don’t post what their own situation is it leads to a false picture.

LuluBellaBlue · 11/03/2020 17:10

I was annoyed as the only packs left were a 24 pack of Andrex which cost me £10! Shock
So now I’ve had to stock pile and buy in bulk when I didn’t even want to

johnwayneisbigleggy · 11/03/2020 17:11

Go to aldi.. plenty there 🤷‍♀️

Springsnake · 11/03/2020 17:11

I am almost right in the center of Uk couldn’t be any further from the sea if I tried .
Pasta shelves just had the odd random packet on ..but we don’t really eat that

Why does anyone think loo roll is their saviour in a crisis.

Hose under the shower, wet cotton wool, tissues.

So many ways to improvise

Devlesko · 11/03/2020 17:12

They were just better prepared OP, unless you have a few cases in your area and that will be the reason.
My cupboards are full, but no panicking I started one extra a week long before brexit. We are low income, so couldn't panic buy.

neversleepagain · 11/03/2020 17:13

I don't necessarily think it's panic buying. If every customer buys one extra bale of toilet roll the supermarket will run out. One extra bale is hardly stockpiling. It's not like people are stocking trollies to the ceiling with toilet roll while salivating like panic crazed manics. Well done that I've seen anyway.

Reginabambina · 11/03/2020 17:13

I would imagine a lot of people have bought extra in response to not being able to get it easily.

CharlotteCollinsneeLucas · 11/03/2020 17:14

@PurpleDaisies, fair point. Thanks for explaining!

PrincessHoneysuckle · 11/03/2020 17:14

Amazon have got loads

Springsnake · 11/03/2020 17:15

I’ve not stocked up on hand sanitizer either ,just assumed shops would ensure supply would meet demand ,hopefully it will by nex t week ,I’m sure mr manager in my big Tesco has upped the order for loo roll till demand dies down ...let’s hope so anyway .
Have just sent dh and ds to Aldi ,so we shall see if they return with loo roll
