I’ve followed all advice to not buy more than I need ,baring in mind people on lower incomes who can’t afford to stock up .
So I’ve just been to Tesco to do my weekly shop ,and not a single toilet roll to be had ...
NOT EVEN ONE ,on any shelves.
I spoke to the manager and asked why stocks were not limited to one pack per person ,he didn’t care in the slightest, told me the delivery gets in at 4 am
Is that now what I have to do ,get up at 4 am just to get loo roll.

I still don’t understand the loo roll thing when it’s cheaper online? You can buy it now! Right now Shock

Finfintytint · 11/03/2020 18:18

Same as speakout. Living in rural mid Wales means it’s sensible to always have enough supplies for a month due to flooding, snow, etc. Even a bloody RTC stops access for a day making it difficult to get out. I’ve always kept enough in the house that I don’t need to leave.
Corona will not change my habits around shopping.

amazedmummy · 11/03/2020 18:18

My sister bought the last bag of pasta in Tesco, it was a 3kg bag and considerably more than she wanted. Our ASDA had no pasta and no loo roll yesterday. Lidl still seems ok.

Sparklingbrook · 11/03/2020 18:19

Worcestershire here too. Over the weekend there was no loo roll to be had locally went to Cheltenham yesterday and there was loads in Waitrose.

Today there was a huge stack of 18 rolls of Andrex in Lidl and Wilkos had loads too.

So not sure if the stockpiling is needed at all. I am a bit Shock at the amount of loo roll people think they will need for 2 weeks.

Kuponut · 11/03/2020 18:20

Find a tall person - DH managed to get the loo roll off the super high shelves most people can't reach and was passing it down to others the other day. We were running low and it was due on the shopping list for this weekend, so we picked it up last weekend when it was obvious the loo roll lunacy was starting - we had to get the posh shea butter buffs your arse to be like a Kardashian stuff rather than the "I'm not paying over the odds because it's to wipe up shit" usual buy though.

Finfintytint · 11/03/2020 18:20

Does Corona give you the shitsGrin

Porcupineinwaiting · 11/03/2020 18:22

Plenty of loo roll in Sheffield OP (in case that's near you). Not so much pasta, unless you like macaroni or some fancy stuff infused w spinach.

EmmiJay · 11/03/2020 18:22

And pads! Three shops I had to go into to find my style and brand. Not even Tesco or Sainsburys own brand available. RIDICULOUS. Just pure selfishness!

AutumnRose1 · 11/03/2020 18:23

Once again, people are confusing panic buying and prepping.

I have a prep stash but it has to be limited because I live in small flat.

Maybe I’ll give up my bed and just make one out of loo rolls when this over.

Jux · 11/03/2020 18:23

Superdrug had quite a lot.

I took 2 packs (only 6 rolls in each - I usually get those giant packs with like 1003 rolls in), one for us, one for dd. That's only because we are actually running out of the stuff too, otherwise I wouldn't have bothered.

Ninkanink · 11/03/2020 18:26

Yeah, that reminds me I ought to get a pack of tampons for myself and some pads for my daughters. I’ll have a month’s use for each of us that way.

I’m not going crazy with it, I just bought more long-life stuff than I usually would. I also didn’t pick up 10/20/30 of each item - no bulk buying of baked beans for me. A range of tinned meals/soups/beans and legumes for cooking with, and some jars of curry sauce, some jarred antipasti and pesto for ease of cooking if we’re all unwell. Two weeks worth of meat for the freezer, which can be stretched out to three or four weeks if we ration it carefully.

MrsKingfisher · 11/03/2020 18:29

I completely agree op it's incredibly selfish and stupid. I'd like to know why those who aren't ill and have no medical condition that requires them to go bonkers buying everything why they've done it.

Our country appears to be really quite selfish in part, people selling sanitiser on eBay for £40, greedy opportunists.

willowpatterns · 11/03/2020 18:30

Back from Morrisons.

I walked in the door to be greeted by a stack of toilet rolls on a pallet just inside the main entrance.

Most things normal.

Somewhat below normal: tinned fruit, tea and coffee, plain flour, baby wipes, eggs, dog food.

Almost gone: bleach, and for some reason - hot cross buns Confused

Absent: kitchen and bathroom spray cleaners, self-raising flour.

Forgot to look down the pasta/rice/soup/tinned veg aisle as I was too disconcerted by the hot cross bun issue Grin

TheResurrectionist · 11/03/2020 18:32

I posted that mine are fine to try and stop threads like these making panic buying worse. Mine are fine. I bet lots of other places are too

Agree with you, @PurpleDaisies My local supermarkets all have plenty of loo roll (I use Waitrose, Sainsbury's, Aldi and Lidl, depending on which route home I take). No idea about hand sanitiser, as I'm not intending to buy any.

In fact, I have some in the cupboard which I'm thinking of selling on eBay. Grin

AutumnRose1 · 11/03/2020 18:33

Someone on the panic thread posted a panic about her Italian tinned tomatoes in case they have the virus.

Kuponut · 11/03/2020 18:35

I have a few cans of beans more in the cupboard than normal, have made sure we've got a sensible size bag of dried pasta in (we normally use the fresh stuff) and that we renewed DD2's repeat prescription once transmission started moving across into Europe, and I've always kept on top of paracetamol and stuff stocks in the cupboard because there've been ongoing supply issues with it for bloody months around here. We don't have masses of storage space to stockpile anyway - our kitchen is tiny and our shed is rammed!

We always have a fair bit of batch cooked stuff in the freezer, and if the shit really hit the fan I'd take the kids up to my mum's who has never quite got out of the mentality of having cupboards rammed to the rafters anyway!

We're low on wine though - which is a worry if we're going to be isolated with MY kids and husband!

dementedma · 11/03/2020 18:38

Its weird. There is loads of loo roll at our local Aldi and Lidl. Only thing out of stock is hand sanitiser.

SeasonallySnowyPeasant · 11/03/2020 18:39

If you’re near Bridlington (or 68 miles away like one couple) then you can win toilet roll at the arcade: www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/uk-england-humber-51819781/bridlington-arcade-owner-fills-grabber-machine-with-loo-roll

I have about 100 loo rolls but I bought them on Groupon over a year ago as Brexit supplies. No panic buying here!

No sanitary towels here either. None. Empty shelves. I had a cry in the supermarket as it topped off an awful day.

DoubleAction · 11/03/2020 18:43

If everyone kept a small "stockpile" in, enough to last a couple of weeks, this would never ever happen.

VenusTiger · 11/03/2020 18:44

@springsnake - try somewhere else - I'm in the middle of UK too and there's loads every shop local to me.

LadyLovelyLockz · 11/03/2020 18:44

Its not the stockpilers that are your problem. It's the panic buyers. Blame them.

cologne4711 · 11/03/2020 18:49

No hot cross buns? That's bizarre. DH bought some last week because they were selling them off cheap due to sell by/best before date!

I was miffed not to be able to get a thermometer today. Superdrug might get some more in but Boots are utterly rubbish and it will likely take them weeks to get more in.

I bought a couple of extra packs of sanitary towels last week so am ok for those. I had a feeling they might go on the panic buy list and I am also fussy about the type I get as some just don't work at night.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 11/03/2020 18:49

My local supermarket had everything except tonic and other mixers. Clearly the threat of being stuck at home with the ones you love most requires gin and lots of it. Grin
