I’ve followed all advice to not buy more than I need ,baring in mind people on lower incomes who can’t afford to stock up .
So I’ve just been to Tesco to do my weekly shop ,and not a single toilet roll to be had ...
NOT EVEN ONE ,on any shelves.
I spoke to the manager and asked why stocks were not limited to one pack per person ,he didn’t care in the slightest, told me the delivery gets in at 4 am
Is that now what I have to do ,get up at 4 am just to get loo roll.

sw London here
All the fancy loo roll has sold out but the cheap stuff and the recycled stuff is still in (Ie the thin paper)

Own brand flour is out but branded is available

Wilkos has a huge bin of wipes available - they are plastic free too so going to use those long term instead of sainsbos.

No hand sanitizer. Everything else seems normal except I can't find lemons anywhere!

Symbollove · 11/03/2020 23:12

Where is it cheaper online to get loo rolls? I buy 36 rolls for £5, that's been my best bet for years

bamboo0 · 11/03/2020 23:17

Supermarkets near me had empty shelves last week, today they seemed fine so I'm hoping that everyone has stopped panic buying or the shops have cottoned on. Pp is right that once a few people start panic buying everyone else has to stock up too otherwise you'll go without. I certainly haven't stockpiled but when I saw a bumper pack of loo rolls I brought them, normally I'd buy a smaller pack.

SnoozyLou · 11/03/2020 23:25

Am I the only person who finds term "prepper" intensely annoying?

DianaT1969 · 11/03/2020 23:33

It's true that the ones who are buying 50 loo rolls and 5 packs of pasta this week, won't be queuing round the block at 6am with the "it's only flu brigade" in 3 weeks' time when alot more of us will be I'll or self-isolating..

FusionChefGeoff · 11/03/2020 23:38

I'm a prepper Grin thanks to Brexit and these boards.

When I went to Aldi and loo roll was in short supply, I was able to leave it on the shelves for those that needed it - as I had stocked mine slowly weeks ago.

That is the HUGE societal benefit of prepping. It's the opposite of panic buying!!

sigmu87 · 11/03/2020 23:40

My Asda was out of pasta, rice, headache tabs, hand gel and long life milk

Purplewhitelie · 11/03/2020 23:42

I am a natural prep as used to live in the middle of nowhere with no car Smile

jmcg2015 · 11/03/2020 23:48

Those panic buying are an absolute disgrace, they should be utterly ashamed. They won't though, their selfishness justifies their action and soothes their rotten conscience. It's a horrible thing to do, disadvantage others because of their own misguided self preservation

Are there no other shops in your vicinity?
Try online ordering, their warehouses seem to have everything at the moment. I use Ocado and Iceland mainly but have occasonally used Tesco, Morrison's, Sainsbury's and Waitrose - plus the Co-op but their stuff comes from a local Co-Op so will possibility run out of things.

SeasonallySnowyPeasant · 12/03/2020 10:03

Sainsbury’s and Tesco both had signs up today saying they were out of stock of paracetamol, hand gel and face masks. They didn’t have any Calpol and had about 2 packs of loo roll on the shelves.

Porcupineinwaiting · 12/03/2020 10:12

I had no idea that supermarkets even sold face masks, other than the beauty sort.

Bingeslayer · 12/03/2020 10:16

Thank you stockpiles, I'm in tremendous pain with my hideous period pain with no ibuprofen to even take the edge off because every shop I can get too has been sold out for last fortnight!!!!!

JustInCaseCakeHappens · 12/03/2020 10:22

Boots sells paracetamol + codein over the counter, you could ask the pharmacist if you have one nearby?

SeasonallySnowyPeasant · 12/03/2020 10:28

I didn’t know they sold face masks either but I suppose the pharmacy wants to stop people asking about them.

Thanks you so much OP for starting this thread: normally no-one is even remotely interested in stories about how much medication and food people have squirrelled away at home. Finally it's the perfect opportunity to declare with smug glee, "I thought all sensible people kept a stash of the essentials for times of crisis?"

gamerchick · 12/03/2020 12:44

I wouldn't....

EverythingChanges321 · 12/03/2020 12:50

Plenty of loo rolls in all our supermarkets.

OneForMeToo · 12/03/2020 12:54

Our local B&M/wilko/qd/Aldi etc all have toilet rolls and ibuprofen.

InFiveMins · 12/03/2020 13:06

I agree with you OP, it's ridiculous. Scaremongering has caused it - in a few months we will look back and wonder what on earth we were doing.

God forbid we face a real crisis.

HasaDigaEebowai · 12/03/2020 13:13

in a few months we will look back and wonder what on earth we were doing.

I highly doubt that. Unless we're incredibly lucky things could look pretty bleak in a few months' time.

Beautiful3 · 12/03/2020 13:17

Morrisons online have restricted toilet rolls and handwash/soaps to one pack per order. Which is absolutely the right thing to do. All shops should be restricting amounts people buy, to curb selfish people from stock piling.

heyday · 12/03/2020 13:22

Corner shop near me is selling hand sanitiser (you can normally buy for £1 in Pound store) for £7......crazy!!!

Ninkanink · 12/03/2020 13:28

If, in a few months time, a huge health crisis has been averted it will be due in part to people taking sensible precautions with food and supplies to try to limit unnecessary contact with others, either in cases of self-isolation or in taking preventative cautionary measures to protect the weaker amongst us.

Skyejuly · 12/03/2020 13:43

That's ridiculous its 19p in lidl usually
