Travelling, making other decisions around
exposure

read up, noone can decide for you, but be aware...
Your mode of transport (train/boat/plane) is unlikely to be disinfected.
You may not be welcome back at work (forced isolation unpaid because you decided to take risk)
Getting stuck in quarantine in another country, subjected to their health service and govt restrictions on you.
What happens with your dc and school upon return.
Holiday insurance cover?

Positive ways of coping

Exercise daily, out where you won't be in close proximity (greater than 2 metres)

Eat well, healthy foods, plenty of liquid

Include natural antivirals in diet and good levels of daily vit c, vit d

Rest

Take steps to address any raised anxiety, above what might be reasonable and normal steps for keeping viral hygiene under control.
Its normal to feel more anxious, and normal to take steps to manage situation by being well prepared.

Isolation Issues

Getting sufficient shopping in on low incomes, and/or vulnerable / already isolated

Keeping on top of KEY METERS - need to top up yet in isolation - what measures are there to help

Paying mortgage/rent (private & housing associations) if not receiving sick pay

Legislation that enforced isolation = sick (for sick pay purposes)

Primary mode of transmission is airborne droplets.

Sneeze or cough into elbow (or tissue and bin it). Droplets can travel 2m.

Secondary means of transmission touch.

Hand wash to
Break the transmission cycle from hand to mouth, eyes, nose, or to others, by 20 seconds plus thorough hand washing (soap and water).

Alcohol breaks down the outer layer of virus to effectively kill, other methods may not.
(Anti bacterial does NOT do this and overuse may risk bacterial resistance).

Use 70% vol alcohol to any other additive

Thanks for the new thread.

Any idea what time today's Cobra meeting is?

And does anyone have any insight into what the outcomes might be? Perhaps new measures, moving to delay phase, less stringent testing measures?

L1appelDuVide · 11/03/2020 11:04

Thanks for the new thread. I’ve been lurking and I must admit I’ve been fairly relaxed up until now. Email from the school my DCs attend, this morning states that PHE advice is to not close if there is a suspected or confirmed case of COVID-19. This has concerned me because we are a small village school, where movement of children throughout the school isn’t restricted (ie all year groups mix together at several points throughout the day). It’s a village with multiple generations of families and so a good percentage of those in the vulnerable groups. It’s also a village where a good proportion of the population work in a healthcare setting.

The advice doesn’t make sense to me. Can someone elaborate or make it make sense to me please?

SistemaAddict · 11/03/2020 11:05

It all seems very unreal today as though I'm watching a film or reading a book. No one in RL seems bothered.

L1appelDuVide · 11/03/2020 11:12

I’m not sure if I want schools to shut generally at the moment.

I’m finding it all a bit hard to wrap my head around at the moment to be honest.

MangePasTesOnglesVilain · 11/03/2020 11:12

Are you feeling better Bercow? I'm still the same, sore head, throat, feel rubbish. DS thé same. In normal times would be unremarkable but it's hard not to get a bit worried.

cjt110 · 11/03/2020 11:15

I would like a definite response either way @L1appelDuVide as I need to get things in line if that is a possibility as it will be me who will need to take time out of work/work from home. My husband works in retail and will only get SSP as opposed to me who will just get paid if i work from home.

I think working in retail means that if they shut too, he will not get paid.

"There are no plans to test any UK ministers, including Boris Johnson, for coronavirus after Health Minister Nadine Dorries become the first MP to be diagnosed with Covid-19, PA reports.

The Department of Health and Social Care said ministers would not need to undergo testing as Public Health England worked to advise those who have been in close contact with Dorries.

PHE said it had assessed the risk of Dorries’ individual close contacts and only those with symptoms need to self-isolate. For each Covid-19 case, a risk assessment is carried out and advice tailored to that group, a spokeswoman said."
Guardian

This makes no sense... anyone who may possibly have been in contatc with her should be tested. She herself has said 'My staff member has gone down with it too. I haven't yet given a list to the contact tracers. Hard to remember every single person I was in contact with last week. If you sat next to me in the tea room or library etc please let me know'.

Exochord · 11/03/2020 11:18

I certainly don’t want schools closed! Stupid people will take their kids on cheap holidays and bring back more coronavirus. Or they’ll take them to parks and cafes to spread disease to everyone instead of being safely contained in schools.

teraculum29 · 11/03/2020 11:18

just to add to perspective,
Poland have confirmed 25 cases, from tomorrow all cinemas, theatres, etc are closed.
And all nurseries, schools, high schools and unis are closed.

Boris was at the commonwealth service on Sunday.

I can see the headline in the daily fail 'Boris kills Queen'

Im shocked he doesn't get tested. He is after all the PM, he must be in contact with sooo many people. He has a responsibility to do the right thing.

MangePasTesOnglesVilain · 11/03/2020 11:20

I'm so glad they are stepping up testing.

However I'm a bit cynical too as the big numbers found will time nicely with the more severe measures.

As I have said before, they are manipulating the public psyche-I'm sure an essential part of pandemic management.
