Travelling, making other decisions around
exposure

read up, noone can decide for you, but be aware...
Your mode of transport (train/boat/plane) is unlikely to be disinfected.
You may not be welcome back at work (forced isolation unpaid because you decided to take risk)
Getting stuck in quarantine in another country, subjected to their health service and govt restrictions on you.
What happens with your dc and school upon return.
Holiday insurance cover?

Positive ways of coping

Exercise daily, out where you won't be in close proximity (greater than 2 metres)

Eat well, healthy foods, plenty of liquid

Include natural antivirals in diet and good levels of daily vit c, vit d

Rest

Take steps to address any raised anxiety, above what might be reasonable and normal steps for keeping viral hygiene under control.
Its normal to feel more anxious, and normal to take steps to manage situation by being well prepared.

Isolation Issues

Getting sufficient shopping in on low incomes, and/or vulnerable / already isolated

Keeping on top of KEY METERS - need to top up yet in isolation - what measures are there to help

Paying mortgage/rent (private & housing associations) if not receiving sick pay

Legislation that enforced isolation = sick (for sick pay purposes)

       *********,

Primary mode of transmission is airborne droplets.

Sneeze or cough into elbow (or tissue and bin it). Droplets can travel 2m.

Secondary means of transmission touch.

Hand wash to
Break the transmission cycle from hand to mouth, eyes, nose, or to others, by 20 seconds plus thorough hand washing (soap and water).

Alcohol breaks down the outer layer of virus to effectively kill, other methods may not.
(Anti bacterial does NOT do this and overuse may risk bacterial resistance).

Use 70% vol alcohol to any other additive

It’s obviously because the government don’t want the correct data isn’t it?

Charlesthekingcavalier · 11/03/2020 19:46

I agree horehound

It needs to be at the right time. I suspect a lot of posters just want to hate on anything the government does.

defthand · 11/03/2020 19:46

I think we need a new petition — one that demands testing for those with clear symptoms of Covid-19, irrespective of travel to an out of date list of places.

There is community spread and we must adhere to WHO advice to do our best to aggressively contain it!

ClientQueen · 11/03/2020 19:46

What would you be doing if you were me? I'm neutropenic so high risk for neutropenic sepsis, prone to chest/throat type things
The neutropenia means I don't fight off bacterial infections And I'm getting worried. But my job isn't really one I can do from home unless it gets desperate Sad

Michelleoftheresistance · 11/03/2020 19:46

Still listening to this: just said testing is not reliable for those who are not symptomatic. That's not what the WHO said this afternoon, who were criticising govts not testing those linked people to a known case.

Again, denial that groups of people gathering has any kind of risk of spreading the virus, and ignoring that more vulnerable people in that group need to be able to make decisions to protect themselves. Just ignored that part altogether.

confusedandtired99 · 11/03/2020 19:46

@defthand I agree and would sign it

NeckPainChairSearch · 11/03/2020 19:47

They want to advise a lockdown/self isolation when we are nearer peak to protect more people rather than do it now and then everyone get bored and start going out again in two weeks when it's likely to peak

Can you help out with where this information about the government's tactics is from?

The vacuum of information is a real problem.

SansaSnark · 11/03/2020 19:47

I'm not sure that is their tactic, though. If that was their tactic, why not just say that- instead of saying "we've got no plans to close schools ever". If they have a plan, then share it with us- that will help people feel reassured.

Right now it really does feel like either they have no plan, or they plan to let this tear through the population and mop up the consequences afterwards.

woodencoffeetable · 11/03/2020 19:47

school closures can only happen if the children are then not send to grandparents when parents need to continue to work.

confusedandtired99 · 11/03/2020 19:48

Again I maintain they should just stop the fines and advise anyone who wants to withdraw their children to do so

eeeyoresmiles · 11/03/2020 19:48

I am worried for the 1/5 who need o2 that they may not get taken seriously enough to even get to hospital, if they can even get through.

I don't think right now you need to worry about someone who needs O2 not getting treatment. As a pp said, there is 999 for that. The issue right now is they won't get tested if they can't show any kind of immediate link to a confirmed case or country (but having shown up in hospital, I'd guess they probably will then).

SansaSnark · 11/03/2020 19:48

But non-infected children being sent to grandparents are not a risk. Children going to school, catching a mild case and spreading it to their grandparents during the Easter holidays are surely more of a risk?

hankyspanky · 11/03/2020 19:50

can someone make a new thread please

Horehound · 11/03/2020 19:50

@NeckPainChairSearch Matt Hancock literally just said that isolation measures are important however previous pandemics have demonstrated that the public are only willing to adhere to isolation measures for a short period of time therefore implementing measures too early may make them less effective when they are most critical.

Makes sense to me

Aren't you watching??

NewYearNewTwatName · 11/03/2020 19:50

confusedandtired99 I saw a clip the other week about the guys who came up with the test. it's a breath test.

They where preparing to leave to another country to put it through its paces and make sure it works. So yes it probably is already being used in other countries. Why didn't their own country let them test it here?

woodencoffeetable · 11/03/2020 19:50

austria for example are closing schools from next week but provide childcare for those who do not have any other options.

aprilhope · 11/03/2020 19:50

I love my DGC but will not be looking after them if schools are closed. I'm not prepared to put my DH at risk.

Orangeblossom78 · 11/03/2020 19:51

Sounds like some of you need to chill out a bit, maybe go self isolate yourselves in a silent retreat somewhere and do some yogic breathing or something

SansaSnark · 11/03/2020 19:51

Actually, if you are admitted to hospital with respiratory symptoms, you should now be tested- guidance here: www.gov.uk/government/publications/wuhan-novel-coronavirus-initial-investigation-of-possible-cases/investigation-and-initial-clinical-management-of-possible-cases-of-wuhan-novel-coronavirus-wn-cov-infection#criteria

Although in a way at that stage it doesn't matter to you- the treatment is probably similar/the same regardless. It does however matter to stop the spread of the disease to other vulnerable patients.

Horehound · 11/03/2020 19:51

@hankyspanky there is a new thread.. just look in the coronavirus topic..

JeannieTheZebra · 11/03/2020 19:51

@ClientQueen If I was you, I’d get myself signed off sick with stress and then avoid going out at all if possible. I have structural heart problems which could make Coronavirus very nasty and I’m not going out at all right now. I’m bored and lonely but the risk is just too great.

eeeyoresmiles · 11/03/2020 19:52

They where preparing to leave to another country to put it through its paces and make sure it works. So yes it probably is already being used in other countries. Why didn't their own country let them test it here?

I would imagine they need statistically significant numbers of known cases to test it on and ours aren't all even in one town.

WhoWants2Know · 11/03/2020 19:52

Weapon-

I can't see that anyone answered your question about temperature. In Fahrenheit, normal body temperature is 98.6. It sounds like you do have a fever, but not a severe one.

New thread as this is filling so quickly, hope i've done it right?!!

Horehound · 11/03/2020 19:52

People on here are absolutely obsessed with fucking schools closing.
If it's done at the wrong time I imagine things could get worse since people will rely on the older generation to help with childcare. Hmm
