Travelling, making other decisions around
exposure

read up, noone can decide for you, but be aware...
Your mode of transport (train/boat/plane) is unlikely to be disinfected.
You may not be welcome back at work (forced isolation unpaid because you decided to take risk)
Getting stuck in quarantine in another country, subjected to their health service and govt restrictions on you.
What happens with your dc and school upon return.
Holiday insurance cover?

Positive ways of coping

Exercise daily, out where you won't be in close proximity (greater than 2 metres)

Eat well, healthy foods, plenty of liquid

Include natural antivirals in diet and good levels of daily vit c, vit d

Rest

Take steps to address any raised anxiety, above what might be reasonable and normal steps for keeping viral hygiene under control.
Its normal to feel more anxious, and normal to take steps to manage situation by being well prepared.

Isolation Issues

Getting sufficient shopping in on low incomes, and/or vulnerable / already isolated

Keeping on top of KEY METERS - need to top up yet in isolation - what measures are there to help

Paying mortgage/rent (private & housing associations) if not receiving sick pay

Legislation that enforced isolation = sick (for sick pay purposes)

Secondary means of transmission touch.

Break the transmission cycle from hand to mouth, eyes, nose, or to others, by 20 seconds plus thorough hand washing (soap and water).

Alcohol breaks down the outer layer of virus to effectively kill, other methods may not.

Use 70% vol alcohol to any other additive

@confusedandtired99 I agree to an extent- however, equally, if you are that concerned, I would suggest just keeping your children off and dealing with fines if/when they come. If you ring up and say they have flu-like symptoms then I doubt that the school will be very keen to have them come in at the moment.

screamer1 · 11/03/2020 19:53

Is it possible to access the demographic breakdown of Italy deaths anywhere?

confusedandtired99 · 11/03/2020 19:54

@Horehound don’t you think people should have the choice without deregistering their children?

aprilhope · 11/03/2020 19:54

@Horehound you're correct. If children are deemed to be such a risk that schools are closed I will not be looking after my DGC. My DH is higher risk than I am and I'm not prepared to put him at risk.

The timing has to be right.

SansaSnark · 11/03/2020 19:54

@Horehound I agree that schools closing are not the be all and end all- there are other measures to control the spread that should be considered first.

However people are worried and there is no need to be so aggressive and rude.

confusedandtired99 · 11/03/2020 19:55

@SansaSnark I’m sorry if you thought I was being aggressive. I don’t mean to come across that way

Bumblesbumbles · 11/03/2020 19:56

There is no way I’d let my parents look after my kids at the current time. Many people would want to protect their parents?!

hankyspanky · 11/03/2020 19:56

@Horehound I've asked for mine to be deleted but i can't see the one you said please can you send me the link, Thank you

Horehound · 11/03/2020 19:57

@confusedandtired99 no, I don't. If you go down that route where do you stop? Everyone has a right to do anything they like? Doesn't work I'm afraid.
Stick to the guidance.

BeyondMymymymyCorona · 11/03/2020 19:57

"People on here are absolutely obsessed with fucking schools closing"

Clues in the website name...

SansaSnark · 11/03/2020 19:58

@confusedandtired99

I don't think you were being aggressive, sorry if my post came across that way.

It's just, at the end of the day, it is possible to keep your children off school. If you are willing to lie (or have genuine reasons to be extra concerned about your children), I don't think it would be that hard to keep them off until Easter now. You might not even get a fine at this stage anyway- there is some discretion involved.

GalOopNorth · 11/03/2020 19:58

I agree Sansa

The strategy is let it happen and mop it up after.

It doesn’t need to be all or nothing. They could do a number of things that would help.

They are not doing them.

It’s negligence.

BeyondMymymymyCorona · 11/03/2020 19:59

Hore, just curious, when the advice comes out about how to minimise risk for the vulnerable and it includes staying home - how does that work when the vulnerable person is a child or has school-age children? Without having a bit of leeway in the attendance rules?

Sunshinegirl82 · 11/03/2020 20:00

@sansashark

Sorry, I should have been clearer. I meant that we should expect to see sustained numbers of positive tests in Italy if they are at their peak. People seem concerned that the daily number remain high but that seems consistent with the trajectory they are expecting. Obviously it it awful that there have been so many people pass away there.

Horehound · 11/03/2020 20:00

@BeyondMymymymyCorona just because the majority of users on here are parents why does that equate to being obsessed with wanting schools to be closed?
Usually they're moaning because kids have too much holiday. Can't bloody win!!

Mordred · 11/03/2020 20:01

Sent from Milan by an Italian friend, not sure how true it is. Hopefully, not.

files.catbox.moe/3ns6c1.mp4?fbclid=IwAR2B7gtNM2lgDQYq0XMsU9SXxi8T8pzoBdSf4l5Jb3CE615NHPtDILLQIPc

BeyondMymymymyCorona · 11/03/2020 20:03

Well both sides are here still - there is a lot of opposition to the idea of schools closing too.

Personally it doesn't bother me either way, when I choose that the risk has passed acceptable (to my own sense of risk) I'll take them out. Don't care what Boris has to say on it :)

Horehound · 11/03/2020 20:04

@BeyondMymymymyCorona I'm sure when that advice is given they will cover the issue then..

Ohh question on it right now on tv. Ofsted will take a lenient view. Saying the numbers are so low they are giving individual guidance but when the numbers are higher they will issue blanket advice.

Again, Seems sensible to me

CharlieTangoBanana · 11/03/2020 20:06

Link to the article in local paper about the test that was developed in Derby, the test hasn't undergone any testing to prove its accuracy, it could be this test that failed in USA for all we know

www.derbytelegraph.co.uk/news/derby-news/derby-firm-says-developed-new-3897136

confusedandtired99 · 11/03/2020 20:06

@Mordred I hope that’s not real!

AtomicRabbit · 11/03/2020 20:08

Read this man's experience of having a very high temperature for 8 days, a dry cough and can't get a test for coronavirus despite coming back from Thailand.

The 111 call-handlers are already overwhelmed.

twitter.com/michaeltinmouth/status/1237308267552034821

Imagine if you really need help. The NHS is not in a good place to handle this at all. Schools should be shut immediately.

Skyejuly · 11/03/2020 20:10

Very worrying and almost like a bad dream

Mordred · 11/03/2020 20:10

@confusedandtired99

Me too - Italy has more beds per 1000 population than we have :-(
