Travelling, making other decisions around
exposure

read up, noone can decide for you, but be aware...
Your mode of transport (train/boat/plane) is unlikely to be disinfected.
You may not be welcome back at work (forced isolation unpaid because you decided to take risk)
Getting stuck in quarantine in another country, subjected to their health service and govt restrictions on you.
What happens with your dc and school upon return.
Holiday insurance cover?

Positive ways of coping

Exercise daily, out where you won't be in close proximity (greater than 2 metres)

Eat well, healthy foods, plenty of liquid

Include natural antivirals in diet and good levels of daily vit c, vit d

Rest

Take steps to address any raised anxiety, above what might be reasonable and normal steps for keeping viral hygiene under control.
Its normal to feel more anxious, and normal to take steps to manage situation by being well prepared.

Isolation Issues

Getting sufficient shopping in on low incomes, and/or vulnerable / already isolated

Keeping on top of KEY METERS - need to top up yet in isolation - what measures are there to help

Paying mortgage/rent (private & housing associations) if not receiving sick pay

Legislation that enforced isolation = sick (for sick pay purposes)

Primary mode of transmission is airborne droplets.

Sneeze or cough into elbow (or tissue and bin it). Droplets can travel 2m.

Secondary means of transmission touch.

Hand wash to
Break the transmission cycle from hand to mouth, eyes, nose, or to others, by 20 seconds plus thorough hand washing (soap and water).

Alcohol breaks down the outer layer of virus to effectively kill, other methods may not.
(Anti bacterial does NOT do this and overuse may risk bacterial resistance).

Use 70% vol alcohol to any other additive

Found out last night that a colleague from another office in the same building tested positive and is in isolation at home. He returned from northern Italy last week when the advice was still to isolate only if you had been to any of the excluded towns or had symptoms. Neither applied to him so he was at work Thu/Fri. Cough and fever started Fri night. We were given the choice to work from home from today while we got advice from public health who have now said that despite at least 1 other member of staff developing typical symptoms over the weekend none of us need to be tested as he was not symptomatic until after he left the workplace. So business as usual Hmm

ofwarren · 11/03/2020 12:13

The highest levels of virus were found in the throats of patients in the earliest stages of infection and before they feel unwell, which is when they are most likely to be walking about and coughing, spreading the virus t.co/4aOMjsctjy

Nancy, I hope she's better soon. Please don't hesitate to take her back to a&e if you are worried Thanks

So, 7pm tonight is the big announcement is it? I hope it's not more dither and dumbing down.

Number12 · 11/03/2020 12:16

@nancypineapple im so sorry to hear that hour dd is unwell. Its a major worry and you are letting let down by NHS. They rare creating more work for themselves.

Why didn't a&e just give you a prescription or the meds there and then?? You really don't need this on top of looking after your daughter! I hope she feels better soon x

Langbannedforsafeguardingkids · 11/03/2020 12:19

I certainly don’t want schools closed! Stupid people will take their kids on cheap holidays and bring back more coronavirus. Or they’ll take them to parks and cafes to spread disease to everyone instead of being safely contained in schools

NO THEY WON'T

Public health messages about social distancing - proven to work to slow transmission - will prevent this for all but the most horrible and unpleasant people who don't care about the impact of their actions on anyone else. It will be a tiny minority.

Also there are few places people will be allowed to fly and move freely (quite a few countries are now saying people from UK must stay in quarantine for 14 days after arrival)

Being outdoors - e.g. parks - where you can have greater distance between people is far better- in this paper the author even suggest schools if not closing hold classes outside. papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract_id=3549276

You ARE LESS SAFE INSIDE THAN OUTSIDE.

picklemewalnuts · 11/03/2020 12:24

It's hotting up, isn't it!

Some people still seem oblivious though.

Thanks if someone in your house is already ill, and you are wondering what they have!
Thanks if you are trying to protect someone vulnerable, or are vulnerable yourself.

missclimpson · 11/03/2020 12:25

Just watching the French lunchtime news and they have called up the "réserve sanitaire", recently retired doctors, medical students and other medical professionals who are not in work. It seems they provide telephone and backroom support. Seems very sensible.

Bumblesbumbles · 11/03/2020 12:27

Sorry if already posted on this thread but @cjt110 posted on the old one. Petition to consider closing schools- petition.parliament.uk/petitions/300403

Tempuserregularposter · 11/03/2020 12:29

@DressingGownofDoom I assume because of financial differences between the shoppers, tescos shoppers will be more likely to have more disposable income.

Tempuserregularposter · 11/03/2020 12:31

It might be because of the budget but I've been saying for ages I think information regarding closing schools and wfh is more likely to be delivered when the majority of people are at home.

usernotfound0000 · 11/03/2020 12:32

A member of Nadine Dorries’ staff has tested positive for coronavirus, a party source has confirmed.

Amid growing anxiety in Parliament over the spread of the disease, sources said the staff member was tested after the MP discovered she had the disease.

Dorries, who began feeling ill on Friday, wrote to fellow MPs saying that one of her staff has contracted the illness and she is now in self-isolation for the next fortnight.

Dorries’ symptoms began on 6 March - the 14-day incubation period means she could have been first exposed to coronavirus on 21 February. She met hundreds of people at meetings in Westminster and in her constituency before she felt poorly.

Her parliamentary office in the Norman Shaw North building close to Whitehall and her ministerial office in the Palace of Westminster are both sealed off - as are some corridors leading to them - after the MP and a member of staff fell ill with the virus that has killed six so far in Britain and 4,300 globally.

VivaLeBeaver · 11/03/2020 12:38

Where on earth do the people in Italy get the dead bats from to hang on their washing line? Is it black market, open market, they catch them themselves? Is it illegal?

ToughGuy · 11/03/2020 12:39

Do they not realise bats carry rabies too? Confused

ApricotCrush · 11/03/2020 12:40

A drive-thru testing centre is being set up in Wolverhampton. They have 3 known cases at the moment, one of whom died. You have to have contacted 111 and have an appointment.
www.expressandstar.com/news/health/2020/03/10/drive-thru-coronavirus-testing-centre-set-up-in-wolverhampton/

ToughGuy · 11/03/2020 12:41

yeah, we just need rabies to mutate with coronavirus and we really will have a 28 Days Later situation on our hands Grin

Neepandtatties · 11/03/2020 12:42

ncfortuna I've really no idea how to respond to that. Sense of humour fail maybe, just don't understand it.

CoronaOffice · 11/03/2020 12:45

We were informed of a case in the office yesterday. Close colleagues have been told to isolate. For the rest of us it's business as usual.
To be honest I think I'm resigned to getting it now, I am just hoping that DH and I don't both have it severely at the same time as I have no idea who would care for our young children. No local family and friends are also all juggling young children and work. Our regular babysitter is 80 so I certainly won't be asking her to get involved.

NerrSnerr · 11/03/2020 12:47

That's our concern too @CoronaOffice. Our family all live hours away and everyone local has young children and we wouldn't want to risk infecting their families.

Egghead68 · 11/03/2020 12:47

As I have said before, they are manipulating the public psyche-I'm sure an essential part of pandemic management.

Yes - they’ve started putting the daily numbers affected back in the headlines on the BBC news website.

It’s sort-of in a good cause, I think.

fezzesarecool · 11/03/2020 12:48

My boss has put a cornavirus joke up in our work group chat 😡

SistemaAddict · 11/03/2020 12:48

Just flicked into the news. BJ is looking rather bloated, bog eyed and like a evolutionary throw back (when viewed from the side).

SistemaAddict · 11/03/2020 12:50

Have the tories grown a magic money tree in the last few days?

Jerseygaly · 11/03/2020 12:50

I'm not sure the gov are consider ing viral load.
If all the kids get sick the teacher will too.
The virus will be in high concentration in the schools and in large workplaces.
Anyone who managed not to catch it will return to work to high concentration of virus if they go back too soon.
