Travelling, making other decisions around
exposure

read up, noone can decide for you, but be aware...
Your mode of transport (train/boat/plane) is unlikely to be disinfected.
You may not be welcome back at work (forced isolation unpaid because you decided to take risk)
Getting stuck in quarantine in another country, subjected to their health service and govt restrictions on you.
What happens with your dc and school upon return.
Holiday insurance cover?

Positive ways of coping

Exercise daily, out where you won't be in close proximity (greater than 2 metres)

Eat well, healthy foods, plenty of liquid

Include natural antivirals in diet and good levels of daily vit c, vit d

Rest

Take steps to address any raised anxiety, above what might be reasonable and normal steps for keeping viral hygiene under control.
Its normal to feel more anxious, and normal to take steps to manage situation by being well prepared.

Isolation Issues

Getting sufficient shopping in on low incomes, and/or vulnerable / already isolated

Keeping on top of KEY METERS - need to top up yet in isolation - what measures are there to help

Paying mortgage/rent (private & housing associations) if not receiving sick pay

Legislation that enforced isolation = sick (for sick pay purposes)

       <strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong>**,

Primary mode of transmission is airborne droplets.

Sneeze or cough into elbow (or tissue and bin it). Droplets can travel 2m.

Secondary means of transmission touch.

Hand wash to
Break the transmission cycle from hand to mouth, eyes, nose, or to others, by 20 seconds plus thorough hand washing (soap and water).

Alcohol breaks down the outer layer of virus to effectively kill, other methods may not.
(Anti bacterial does NOT do this and overuse may risk bacterial resistance).

Use 70% vol alcohol to any other additive

I have just received the most ridiculous email. I chair a committee which has been organising a professional meeting of abt 500 people in London at the end of March. Mostly senior people, many aged 60+. We have decided to cancel it and circulate the papers rather than convening an in-person meeting.

Today's email from a fellow committee member accuses me of "hysteria" in recommending this course of action and "running around like Chicken Licken screeching that the sky is going to fall in". What a plonker.

There was no paracetamol , or UHT milk in tesco last night . It might be stocked up now though .
Sorry @nancypineapple.

ChipotleBlessing · 11/03/2020 11:52

Re closing schools. I was talking to a group of childminders this morning and between them over half their charges are kids of teachers or lecturers. So if those people are able to stay home with their kids, those childcare places could be taken by health care workers.

Are you fucking serious?
The chinese in Italy are catching bats and hanging them on a line to dry?

Thankyou @MangePasTesOnglesVilain- gp now will prescribe further antibiotics but refusing to see her. So decided to give antibiotic treatment another day to see if lung infection is actually bacterial. Then will ask for further help if no improvement. Problem is I feel there really isn't much help there atm.

middleager · 11/03/2020 12:01

My local Lloyds had thermometers this week.
I bought a cheapish one for the mouth as my one son (asthmatic) had a cold and his brother had been skiing in Italy. We previously had one of those forehead strip thingies from 2006.

Just need to sterilise it of course.

DressingGownofDoom · 11/03/2020 12:02

@cjt110 I just nipped down to our Lidl quickly and they had loads of everything including loo roll. Just low on pasta and Panadol. I decided not to do a big shop after seeing things were ok. Tesco isn't doing as well here for some reason.

Pumpkintopf · 11/03/2020 12:03

Does anyone know why Nadine Dorries was tested - had she been abroad/had contact with a confirmed case? Outside the current testing protocols if not Hmm

cjt110 · 11/03/2020 12:03

@DressingGownofDoom Cheers for this.

I'll pop to somewhere less manic like Aldi later

littledrummergirl · 11/03/2020 12:03

Dd just called me. Another parent has removed their child after a family arrives back from Italy on Saturday and sent their dc to school. The local newspaper states the local authority have said they won't be fined. Dd not going to see my dmum, sis and cousins after school as usual-her idea- as my dsis is very high risk.
I won't post a link in case it's not been verified.

defthand · 11/03/2020 12:05

So the NHS will expand testing “within weeks”.

I suspect testing will be irrelevant “within weeks”.

Things Britain is not: agile.

MmeAlice · 11/03/2020 12:06

I'm a committee member for a local choir where I live. Average age of choir members 60+. I've been manouvering this morning to get the choir to hold a month's break. But the chairman (in his seventies and has 'seen everything') thinks it is all a fuss about nothing. Meanwhile the cases for Denmark (pop. 5.6 million) have jumped from 256 yesterday to 340 today and we have had the first few cases reported in our town. Society here is close knit and family focused. And yet they want to heard 50 60+ years people into a tight space tomorrow to sing and bellow at each other for two hours. I've given my views and will not be attending. They are completely blinkered to the reality. Sorry, rant over.

Dk20 · 11/03/2020 12:06

I've had a lingering cough from a flu that I had at the start of Feb, I'm in Ireland and the first case was confirmed here maybe 2 weeks ago, but I've just been told I had to leave the office and work from home till the cough is gone

hilbil21 · 11/03/2020 12:07

@littledrummergirl does the school begin with M?

SansaSnark · 11/03/2020 12:08

I agree that weeks is too long - but it's not easy to expand testing quickly. I was skeptical of the promised increases in testing this morning!

MmeAlice · 11/03/2020 12:09

herd, not heard.

Jerseygaly · 11/03/2020 12:10

Backache could be b a uti maybe.

MurrayTheMonk · 11/03/2020 12:11

I just don't trust anything the government is saying or doing now as it all seems contradictory to me.

peachgreen · 11/03/2020 12:12

My work have basically just said that they will want us all to work from home but not yet, so to start taking laptops home every day. I'm curious about the "not yet". Wonder if it's official advice from the Government so as to stem the tide of the economic impact.

Neepandtatties · 11/03/2020 12:13

Controversial subject perhaps but, if you worked as a stripper/lapdancer, would you go to work? Am I at higher risk because I go nude around strangers? My sensible head thinks not, they're no more likely to have it than someone I walk past in the street. Other part of me thinks maybe just maybe and I shouldn't take the risk? Thanks.
