Who’s carrying on as normal re summer holidays?

My dh, who is usually very un-bothered by pretty much anything, doesn’t want to book a foreign holiday for summer as he thinks it’s silly in the current situation re coronavirus. I’m not too bothered so long as we go away so agreed to book a UK holiday and wait and see and possibly book a last minute foreign holiday if things have changed in July/august.

Went online yesterday and was shocked at how very few places are left at our chosen UK destination. We go here every year anyway and there are usually lots of options available at this time.

I can only surmise that people feel the same as us and aren’t willing to risk booking foreign holidays so everywhere is getting snapped up quickly.
Have you changed your usual plans to holiday in UK this year or do you think it’s all a bit ridiculous and intend to carry on as usual going abroad?
YANBU - staying in UK
YABU - going abroad as usual

Had already booked a UK holiday before Coronavirus.

Thenextstorm · 01/03/2020 17:29

I wouldn't book anything abroad - we are sitting at a global crossroads atm. Who knows where it's going..

Snaketime · 01/03/2020 17:33

We are holidaying in the UK, but we do every year anyway.

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 01/03/2020 17:34

I have three foreign holidays booked for the year. Will still be going on all of them.

SimonJT · 01/03/2020 17:35

I’ve got Sitges booked for July then Ottawa in August for the Bingham cup, if for any reason they can’t go ahead my insurance will reimburse me.

IceColdCat · 01/03/2020 17:35

I can't vote as we haven't committed to either yet. Adopting a wait and see approach.

PurpleFlower1983 · 01/03/2020 17:35

We have two foreign holidays booked. One is a cruise and one is to the US. We’re not too worried at the moment!

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 01/03/2020 17:36

We’d already booked for September just before Christmas. If we hadn’t have done, I wouldn’t now.

We’ll wait and see if we go, hopefully normality will be back by then.

FudgeBrownie2019 · 01/03/2020 17:37

We have foreign holidays booked as well as trips abroad for work. If we reach a point where it's not advised to travel I'll follow the advice. If it's fine to travel, we'll travel.

Howyoualldoworkme · 01/03/2020 17:38

Lake Garda in June. Not worried.

Fruityb · 01/03/2020 17:39

Florida booked in August - also not worried.

Honestly, it’s not Ebola.

thegingeningeclansmum · 01/03/2020 17:40

2 holidays booked, I will be going on both. Flu is a far greater problem and has killed hundreds of thousands of people in the past year. Absolute ridiculous hysteria in my opinion!

Strictly1972 · 01/03/2020 17:40

We have 2 Hols abroad booked & are planning to go. US & France. I’m a bit nervous but feel we will be as safe in those countries as we are at home. It’s annoying though as it’s taking away a bit of excitement for me especially our trip to the US which is a bit of a once in a lifetime one for us. Hopefully it will calm down soon enough.

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 01/03/2020 17:40

We’d already booked our summer holiday (abroad) before the outbreak started & intend to go on it unless the advice from the Govt (at the time we’re due to go) is not to travel.

SymphonyofShadows · 01/03/2020 17:42

We have a UK trip booked for May half term but we were looking at going somewhere further in the summer holidays. I’ll wait and see now though. The youngest DC is due to go to Spain in early May with school. I’m guessing that might well be affected.

HisBetterHalf · 01/03/2020 17:43

flu normally reduces in the warmer weather anyway.....

Ikeameatballs · 01/03/2020 17:43

I’be booked a trip to the US. My only regret is that it might have been cheaper if I’d waited and booked now!

I’ll be travelling unless that goes against FO advice at the time.

originalcobra · 01/03/2020 17:43

Summer hols not booked yet, but planned on Europe, and we'll wait now to see how this all pans out. Do not want to end up quarantined in France or Spain.

Iooselipssinkships · 01/03/2020 17:43

Going to Florida in August for 3 weeks. Really hoping it doesn't get cancelled as we're getting married (just us and kids at the county court, nothing fancy) and know we'll never be able to afford to go there again. I'm just hoping it's the media trying to cause mass hysteria.
We'll still be going though absolutely, with bellends on, unless it's taken out of our hands.

Ellmau · 01/03/2020 17:48

But surely it's as likely to spread here as abroad?

Didiusfalco · 01/03/2020 17:48

We would be going away in the uk anyway. If I was thinking about abroad I might hang on and see how things developed, if I’d booked I would carry on unless travel advice had changed.

peeledplumtomatoes · 01/03/2020 17:49

We've got Lisbon, Madrid and Turkey booked. Will only not go if FCO advises against it. I'd be depressed with no holidays in the sun to look forward to.

I'm not worried about Corona, anyone of us could get ill with anything at anytime, nobody knows what's around the corner. Just get on with your life and deal with Corona if and when it affects you.

eMmAsuper8 · 01/03/2020 17:52

I just booked a holiday today for the easter holidays

Panicmode1 · 01/03/2020 17:54

We already have Easter and summer holidays booked so will be going unless the FCO changes advice and our insurance becomes invalid.....

Hollyhead · 01/03/2020 17:56

We're going to France and will still be going - by August coronavirus will be everywhere, I think containment is already too late. You won't avoid coronavirus by not going on holiday - we'll only potentially avoid it by being sensible humans about hygeine, and not going out when ill.
