Hamas says ready to release all Israeli captives

Reported in Al Jazeera:

The Palestinian group says that, in order to end Israel’s war on Gaza and a complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from the enclave, it is ready to release all Israeli captives – both those who are living and dead – according to the exchange plan outlined in Trump’s proposal.

“In this context, the movement affirms its readiness to immediately enter into negotiations through the mediators to discuss the details of this agreement,” Hamas said in a statement shared on Telegram.

It also said it agrees to hand over the administration of Gaza to an independent body of Palestinian technocrats, “based on Palestinian national consensus and Arab and Islamic support”.

“Other issues mentioned in President Trump’s proposal regarding the future of the Gaza Strip and the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people are connected to a unified national position and relevant international laws and resolutions,” Hamas said.

They “will be addressed through a comprehensive Palestinian national framework, in which Hamas will participate and contribute responsibly”.

The celebrations on both sides made me teary. I hope it sticks. Good on Trump if he gets everyone to do that.

I know - it's so emotional.

I know it's only the first phase of the peace plan that has been agreed but even that is massive!

I'm not religious but I'm (sort of) praying that both sides will keep to their side of the bargain so they can move on next week to discussing the next phase.

I’m Catholic and have popped into church to light some candles for peace. Surprisingly there were a lot lit already

Shosh Bedrosian has just been speaking at a news briefing - she is the Israeli prime minister's office spokesperson.

She says a ceasefire will begin in Gaza within 24 hours after this evening's Israeli cabinet meeting - if those at the table agree to the terms of phase one, which was approved in Egypt this morning.

This is despite earlier reports from our Gaza correspondent that the ceasefire was expected to take effect immediately once approved by the Israeli government.

In her media briefing, Bedrosian set out a timeline of events.

At 17:00 local time (15:00 BST), there will be a cabinet meeting, followed an hour later by a government meeting.

"Within 24 hours after the cabinet meeting takes place, a ceasefire will then begin in Gaza," Bedrosian says.

After that, she says the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) will redeploy to a line, which will lead to the military controlling and holding about 53% of the Gaza Strip.

After this, there will be a 72-hour window for Hamas to release the remaining hostages back into Israel, she adds.

Hamas has agreed during talks in Egypt that it will not hold ceremonies during the handover of hostages to Israel, an Arab diplomat and a second source familiar tell The Times of Israel.

The ceremonies during the previous hostage deal at the beginning of the year, which saw emaciated hostages paraded before a crowd alongside anti-Israel slogans, infuriated both Israel and the US.

Thank god for that. I hope they mean it.

Good. The February handover was truly shocking and disrespectful
In the spirit of equality I’m hoping and expecting Israel do the same.

We don’t want anything to backfire giving either side a reason to renege on the agreements as they unfold

Twiglets1 · 09/10/2025 15:04

Both sides need to carry themselves with dignity.

Considering the negotiations will still be ongoing after the hostages & prisoner releases we don't want anything to inflame tensions or give either side an excuse to renege on agreements, as you say @DrPrunesqualer

When has Israel ever held grotesque carnival style handovers of PRISONERS, alive or dead, with PA systems blasting out celebratory music, cheering crowds and massive movie advertising style posters depicting Hamas leaders as vampires?

Deliberately wrongly named coffins of strangled to death and mutilated babies and toddlers, and the wrong bodies of murdered mothers, in locked coffins with no keys?

Taken prisoners to handovers so they could see other prisoners being released then taken them back to captivity?

Must have missed that.

I really don’t want to derail and ruin this thread as it’s one that is trying to look forward
So if you look up what Israel did to the release of detainees before the last Hamas controversial handover ie what was written on their clothes etc. You will see

Making them wear a Star of David? Errrmmm, and that's on a par with the Bibas family carnival???

Anyway, praying for as many living reunions as possible.

Yes
The Star of David and the words
‘we will not forgive or forget’

This is pointless mockery of the Palestinians. Pointless from Israel’s point of view that is, but clearly it wasn’t for those that were released

There's no call for that and I’m hoping Israel and Hamas act with respect in future handovers.

(talking of acts on a par given how many have been killed is ironic )
Im moving on
and looking forward

The poor families of the hostages. They’ve gone through hell for two years and now this agonising situation.
Fuck Hamas. Deplorable death cult.

Yes it is such good news.

The first phase of the peace plan was ratified by the Israel government late last night & the ceasefire begins within 24 hours according to a government spokeswoman.

Once the ceasefire takes effect, aid can flood into Gaza again.

The live Israelis hostages will be released on Monday or Tuesday according to Trump. Palestinian prisoners will also be released.

I’m looking forward too.
