Hamas says ready to release all Israeli captives

Reported in Al Jazeera:

The Palestinian group says that, in order to end Israel’s war on Gaza and a complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from the enclave, it is ready to release all Israeli captives – both those who are living and dead – according to the exchange plan outlined in Trump’s proposal.

“In this context, the movement affirms its readiness to immediately enter into negotiations through the mediators to discuss the details of this agreement,” Hamas said in a statement shared on Telegram.

It also said it agrees to hand over the administration of Gaza to an independent body of Palestinian technocrats, “based on Palestinian national consensus and Arab and Islamic support”.

“Other issues mentioned in President Trump’s proposal regarding the future of the Gaza Strip and the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people are connected to a unified national position and relevant international laws and resolutions,” Hamas said.

They “will be addressed through a comprehensive Palestinian national framework, in which Hamas will participate and contribute responsibly”.

Can you see Hamas contributing responsibly? I'm trying to picture it! 😬

I just don’t get it.

It s not the previous agreement although Trump has welcomed

why is Israel still bombing Gaza and why have
the Israeli settlers stormed a Bedouin community

Is Netanyahu in agreement as there’s nothing in the news

PollyPaintsFlowers · 03/10/2025 22:08

If that was the case they'd have accepted the deal as it was set out. Not agree but then set out terms not included in the plan

My money is on them playing games and when the plan inevitably falls through Trump and Netanyahu will be blamed. Look at how it's already being framed - Hamas have agreed to release the hostages. Very little about how they've changed the terms

Seems like they’ve excluded a couple of terms
ie Trump from the running of Gaza
and
Israel from all involvement in Gaza

the IDF leaving Gaza was always in the plan slthough Netanyahu after agreeing to the plan then suggested / said they wouldn’t

Nevertheless
Netanyahu made changes
Hamas made changes
Fine

Lets hope it all ends now
Im hoping the final peace plan will be issued at some point though as exactly what’s included is confusing

Allthatwegotisthispalebluedot · 04/10/2025 00:51

Please god. Let the hostages come home. Let the war and the suffering in Gaza end.
What a terrible terrible waste of the last two years. So much suffering. I can’t bear it.

The trouble with the deal as presented by Trump was that it was very woolly. There was little to no detail about a lot of the practicalities. These type of peace deals need to be detailed and take time to hash out. It was also expecting a huge deal of trust from the Palestinian side. There needs to be more detail about what each side is going to do - the consequences of them not doing it - and who is going to enforce it.

It is a huge step forward. The single most important thing right now is that both sides appear to be coming to the table and both appear to want peace. Let’s just pray that cool heads are kept and the details can be sorted out.

Trump has issued a statement on Truth social saying, “I believe that Hamas are ready for a lasting peace. Israel should immediately stop the bombing of Gaza so that we can get the hostages out safely & quickly”.

Hamas said that certain parts of the plan need further negotiation and that transferring all the hostages within 72 hours is “unrealistic”. Nevertheless, they have agreed to return all the hostages and to hand over the administration of Gaza to an independent body of Palestinian technocrats.

On Friday night Israeli media reported that their forces were preparing to reduce offensive operations in Gaza to a minimum, including pausing the ground assault in Gaza City.

Netanyahu’s office has released a statement saying it was preparing for the “immediate implementation” of the first phase of the peace plan.

Thanks for the update Twigs 🙏

Trump doesn't care that both sides won't be fully happy - he just wants his Nobel peace prize.

If this somehow miraculously stops the war and does lead to peace then I couldn't care less if he is given one.

Settler violence is state sanctioned terrorism. It was going on long before October 7th, the settlers don't give a shit about peace. It's not a word they are familiar with.

An analyst from The Economist on LBC reckons Hamas are just playing games and the conditions they've placed means they're agreeing to a completely different peace plan that was presented to them

This is my fear. Very hard to negotiate with terrorists, fundamentally untrustworthy and very evil.

Neither could I - if this stops the war & leads to peace then I will stop mocking the suggestion that he could qualify for the peace prize 🤷🏼‍♀️

Neither side were ever going to be fully happy, they were too far apart in what they wanted. But a deal has been done - hope it sticks 🙏🏻

Pakistan have already said the plan put forward wasn’t the one they agreed to. It has already been changed, and not by Hamas.

Hopefully there’s peace. First to release the hostages rn. Negotiations will be tricky as Hamas seem to have said they want more than Israel accepted.

Al Jazeera correspondent in Gaza reports ‘de-escalation’ in attacks after Trump announcement

Al Jazeera’s Hani Mahmoud said it was unclear if the Israeli bombing of the territory had stopped, as demanded by President Trump.

But the enclave had experienced an unusual quietness around midnight as Trump was due to speak in Washington, DC, after Hamas had agreed in principle to key points in his 20-point plan for the war-torn territory.

Smoke is still rising over the north of the enclave and small arms fire and the movement of Israeli military vehicles can still be heard clearly, he said.

But “compared to the past few days, the intensity of the bombardment and the use of extreme firepower is definitely less this morning and could be the beginning of a complete halt. But we don’t know when that is going to happen,” Mahmoud said.

“There is a clear de-escalation,” he said, adding that the distinct sound of Israeli drones – ever present in the sky over Gaza – could not be heard this morning.

According to Army Radio, Israeli political leaders have ordered the military to reduce operations to “the minimum,” with troops on the ground strictly carrying out defensive manoeuvres.

That's very positive news. It is a first for both sides really to be making these moves and concessions and even using this type of language.

I agree with your earlier point, no side is ever going to be fully happy by its very nature a negotiation means giving in .

The armed group known as Palestinian Islamic Jihad have endorsed the Hamas response to the peace plan. Significant because they also hold some of the Israeli hostages.

Ugh that postering & cheering was disgusting.

I’m hoping there is an agreement in the small print that the hostage releases must be done quietly & sensitively this time.

The main thing is that the hostages (bodies of hostages in some cases) get released as soon as possible.

Sounds positive. Get the hostages out as quickly as possible.

Drones have reduced over Gaza.

Hopefully the new authority that take over after hamas go will be more moderate and not preach death to Israelies or to wipe out Israel.

100% agree.

More moderate leaders are needed on both sides.

For everyone saying Hamas have changed terms or are seeking to, Pakistan have been clear that the draft proposal they agreed to is NOT the one that was put forward, it had already been changed and not by Hamas. The question is, by whom?

https://www.ndtv.com/world-news/after-trumps-big-praise-pakistan-says-it-backed-different-version-of-gaza-plan-9389214/amp/1

According to Pakistani Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, the 20-point Gaza plan that Trump announced this week was not in line with the draft proposed by a group of Muslim-majority countries in Washington.
"Changes were made in the plan," Dar told Pakistani lawmakers in parliament on Friday.
"I have made it clear that these 20 points, which Trump has made public, are not ours. These are not the same as ours. I say that some changes have been made in it, in the draft we had."
