Hamas says ready to release all Israeli captives

Reported in Al Jazeera:

The Palestinian group says that, in order to end Israel’s war on Gaza and a complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from the enclave, it is ready to release all Israeli captives – both those who are living and dead – according to the exchange plan outlined in Trump’s proposal.

“In this context, the movement affirms its readiness to immediately enter into negotiations through the mediators to discuss the details of this agreement,” Hamas said in a statement shared on Telegram.

It also said it agrees to hand over the administration of Gaza to an independent body of Palestinian technocrats, “based on Palestinian national consensus and Arab and Islamic support”.

“Other issues mentioned in President Trump’s proposal regarding the future of the Gaza Strip and the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people are connected to a unified national position and relevant international laws and resolutions,” Hamas said.

They “will be addressed through a comprehensive Palestinian national framework, in which Hamas will participate and contribute responsibly”.

I'm seeing lots of reports that Israel is still continuing bombardment of Gaza city despite orders to stop.

End up in Europe claiming asylum 😂
Gloriia you have a really wild imagination - where do you come up with these things from?

They are somewhere buried deep in the right wing...

Israel don’t seem to care about Trump. Hard to believe this peace deal will last.

The Israeli government has invited Tommy Robinson to visit. That’s who they are.

Hebrew media reporting that Netanyahu convened an emergency meeting overnight after Hamas submitted its response to the peace plan, but did not include far-right ministers Smotrich and Ben Gvir who were opposed to ending the war.

The meeting was attended by security chiefs, Defence Minister Israel Katz, and Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer.

This seems good news

Am I correct in assuming the absence of Ben Gvir and Smotrich is a good sign

I don’t know much about those included in the discussions

I think it's positive, in that there is a willingness to negotiate. The difficulty is there are effectively 3 deals in the table now. The one agreed by the 8 Middle Eastern countries, the one agreed by Trump and Netenyahu and the one agreed to by Hamas.

The sensible thing would be to negotiate between those terms, put aside the terms that all parties agree to - return of hostages, cessation of violence, and in the interim Gaza being governed by someone other than Hamas.

The trickier parts are (1) extent and timing of withdrawal (2) path to 2 state solution (3) disarmament of Hamas but ideally not leaving Gaza totally vulnerable (4) the make up - and chair, of the governance (5) how the land will be returned to Gazans.

I'd like to think that with everyone at the negotiating table, and a genuine desire for peace (which I'm not sure exists on any side frankly, but one can hope!), something can be agreed.

I just hope no one does anything stupid, on either side, to jeopardise this slither of hope. No terrorist attack on Israel, no incendiary comments from Israel about the future.

Best of luck to them.

No bombing of delegates in an host nation as they discuss terms?

I think leaving is the proposal? It’s wanting to stay that’s the hurdle. Someone else might have more info, just without looking at deal

Ah I didn't realise they were to be booted out but hopefully with serious conditions on monitoring their identity and whereabouts so they can't disappear off radar and regroup elsewhere like an isis style bunch trying to make a state.

Syria, Iran, Lebanon are places in the region that have welcomed islamists in the past. They have some affiliations in those countries.

As long as they're the right type of islamist of course.

Lebanon has had a bad experience of offering sanctuary to Palestinian terrorist organisations- the last time they did that it led to the Lebanese civil war which turned one of the most peaceful and successful Middle Eastern countries into a pile of rubble.

Syria is currently under new management and having just come out of a civil war doesn't really want to import terrorists to start another one.

Iran are also not best pleased with Hamas for starting this wider conflict which has destroyed their proxy war against Israel. That said I'm sure they would offer them sanctuary if only to enable them to execute or imprison them.

Libya which under Gadaffi offered the final sanctuary to Palestinian terrorists last time is also in the midst of a civil war and doesn't want to import yet more terrorists.

The only two countries that I see as most sympathetic to Hamas and might just offer them sanctuary are Ireland and Spain.

Yes I think it's a good sign that these two were excluded because they are the most extreme members of the cabinet who didn't want Netanyahu to agree peace.

He decided not to take their opinion into account (knowing what they were bound to say).

Disappointing that some air strikes are still happening.

From your source:

The strike comes as the IDF has paused offensive operations in the Strip amid a push by US President Donald Trump to bring about an end to the war. Military sources say the IDF is still conducting defensive operations, including airstrikes against threats to forces.

Still, Shifa Hospital director Mohamed Abu Selmiyah tells the AP that Israeli strikes killed Palestinians across Gaza City, while bombing had “significantly subsided.”

From the BBC:
A reporter for Israel's official military radio station, Galatz, has posted that the Israeli military will reduce its troops activity in Gaza "to a minimum".

"After Trump's announcement - the political echelon instructed the IDF to stop the operation to occupy Gaza," reporter Doron Kadosh wrote on X.

Writing in Hebrew, he adds that the military has been instructed to carry out only defensive operations.

I hope a ceasefire does materialise. The news that Greta is being abused is rather alarming. Feels like Israel is an uncontrollable monster at present. What will they do next?

That’s as I understand the situation too, from Channel 4 news reports. Trump saying he appreciates the Government of Israel ceasing firing into Gaza. Yet rockets continue to rain down and kill people.

Trumps done bloody well to bang their heads together. Hamas need to accept, stick to their side of the bargain and protect their people. They won’t though - cowardly snakes

Twiglets1 · 04/10/2025 20:44

In a televised statement this evening, Netanyahu said that all the Israeli hostages in Gaza will be released in the “coming days”.

The IDF will remain “deep in Gaza” as the hostages are released, he said, adding that Hamas would be forced to disarm “either the easy way or the hard way”.

“I hope that in the coming days we will be able to bring back all our hostages... during the Sukkot holidays.”

The Jewish holiday of Sukkot begins on Monday and lasts until the following Monday.

Trump says Israel has agreed to ‘initial withdrawal line’ in Gaza

In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump has said the “withdrawal line” has been shared with Hamas.

“When Hamas confirms, the Ceasefire will be IMMEDIATELY effective, the Hostages and Prisoner Exchange will begin, and we will create the conditions for the next phase of withdrawal,” he wrote.

Trump’s post includes a map of Gaza with a yellow line running through it, still well within the Palestinian enclave. The illustration appears to suggest Israeli forces will continue to control well more than half of the Strip.

The same story being reported in the Times of Israel about the initial withdrawal line for the first phase of the peace plan (with a map showing the yellow line).

The initial withdrawal line, according to Trump’s map, shows Israel’s approximate lines of control in the Strip prior to the major Gaza City offensive, which began last month. At the time, the IDF held some 70% of Gaza’s territory.

It would mean that the IDF would continue to maintain a presence in southern Gaza’s Rafah and Khan Younis and large portions of the Strip’s north, along with its buffer zone in other parts of the territory.

If they’re serious, they should just withdraw.

They won’t, and they’ll continue to encroach on Gaza.

StrongLikeMamma · 04/10/2025 22:39

Hmm Israel killed dozens of people in Gaza today apparently.

Bobiverse · 04/10/2025 23:01

DontReinMeIn · 04/10/2025 22:22

If they’re serious, they should just withdraw.

They won’t, and they’ll continue to encroach on Gaza.

That will be part of the coming talks and the ironing out. But they’d never agree to withdraw before getting the hostages so that would be a complete non-starter to discuss now. And why should do? They need to stop the bombing and killing, but I’d maintain my presence too whilst waiting for the hostages and further talks.

It’s a problem if they continue to try and claim Gaza later though. And the war won’t end and peace won’t last.

Twiglets1 · 04/10/2025 23:01

In the first draft of the peace plan the clause was that:

A yellow line represents an initial “modest” withdrawal of IDF troops, which would take place within 72 hours of an agreement being reached and once all the hostages are released.

By the time of the Trump- Netanyahu press conference, this had changed to:

If both sides agree to this proposal, the war will immediately end. Israeli forces will withdraw to the agreed upon line to prepare for a hostage release.

Hamas only gave a partial agreement to the proposal, not a full agreement.

Nevertheless, Israel have agreed to withdraw to the initial withdrawal line as they wait for hostage release and the ball is now in the Hamas court to agree to that part of the plan too. Once they do then according to Trump “When Hamas confirms, the Ceasefire will be IMMEDIATELY effective".
