Hamas says ready to release all Israeli captives

Reported in Al Jazeera:

The Palestinian group says that, in order to end Israel’s war on Gaza and a complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from the enclave, it is ready to release all Israeli captives – both those who are living and dead – according to the exchange plan outlined in Trump’s proposal.

“In this context, the movement affirms its readiness to immediately enter into negotiations through the mediators to discuss the details of this agreement,” Hamas said in a statement shared on Telegram.

It also said it agrees to hand over the administration of Gaza to an independent body of Palestinian technocrats, “based on Palestinian national consensus and Arab and Islamic support”.

“Other issues mentioned in President Trump’s proposal regarding the future of the Gaza Strip and the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people are connected to a unified national position and relevant international laws and resolutions,” Hamas said.

They “will be addressed through a comprehensive Palestinian national framework, in which Hamas will participate and contribute responsibly”.

Talks about the peace plan continue today in Egypt.

Hamas has said it agrees to the peace plan proposals in part, but has not responded to several key demands - including its disarmament and not having any future role in the governance of Gaza.

A senior Israeli security source said the talks initially would focus only on the release of hostages and give Hamas a few days to complete that phase.

The second day of the talks, which will see Egyptian and Qatari officials holding shuttle meetings with delegations from both Israel and Hamas separately, will be taking place on the second anniversary of the Hamas-led attack on southern Israel on 7 October 2023, in which about 1,200 people were killed and 251 others were taken hostage.

Trump, writing on social media, has urged everyone involved in efforts to end the Gaza war to "move fast" and says he has been told the first phase of the peace plan - which includes the hostage release - "should be completed this week".

What's different this time: Trump’s plan demands Hamas release all hostages while Israel releases Palestinian prisoners, withdraws its forces within Gaza to agreed-upon lines following a timeline. Both Israel and Hamas have signalled willingness to work toward a deal.

Consequential details: Mediators are now trying to agree upon many details, including the timeline of Israel’s withdrawal, the transfer of governance in Gaza, and the formation of the International Stabilization Force to stabilize the devastated enclave.

Trump expresses optimism: Trump said Hamas was making important concessions during negotiations. “Everyone just came together,” he said, adding later: “I really think we will get a deal done.”

Aid teams waiting: The* *UN said aid teams in Gaza are “ready to go” and prepared to deliver supplies if the Trump ceasefire plan is approved. The International Red Cross also said it was ready to act as a humanitarian intermediary to help return the Israeli hostages held in Gaza and the Palestinian detainees in Israel.

'And still no news on Yvonne Ridley. So strange. How can a pensioner just go missing enroute to deportation?'

https://www.thenational.scot/news/25522295.scottish-flotilla-activist-safe-accounted-for-rumour/

Behind a paywall but the the title is clear. Good news that she is safe.

I wonder if she'll write a book about her experience like her 'traumatic 10 days wirh the Taliban' whom she conversely said treated her with kindness and respect. She could maybe donate all profits to a charity to help gazans although there's no mention that proceeds of her Taliban book went to charity so perhaps not

LakesLovely123 · 07/10/2025 09:44

Apparently Yvonne Ridley is safe. I can't read the article because I'm stingy 😂

Of course she was going to be safe!

I bet she deliberately went off radar so there would be ‘fear for her safety’.

These people are deranged and their only interest is inciting hate against Jews.

She was probably catching up with mates.

This is from her Wiki profile:

In February 2025, Ridley appeared on Talk with journalist Julia Hartley-Brewer and stated that Hamas had shown "kindness" to the Israeli hostages they had kidnapped in the October 7, 2023 attack, only to have their efforts "backlashed" by the Israelis. In a heated exchange, Hartley-Brewer demanded "Are you kidding me? Do tell me what the acts of kindness were. The pita bread once every three days for those men kept in a tunnel for 16 months?" to which Ridley replied, "They gave [the hostages they released in February 2025] goody bags. I don't know what was in them, but they gave them gifts. They gave them little mementos, Palestinian mementos.” An astonished Hartley-Brewer called Ridley a "Hamas apologist" and said "Acts of kindness from your hostage-taker, the man who's kidnapped you and terrified you and starved you for months? Yvonne, what's happened to you?”

I think there is a particular brand of mental illness that covers this sort of thing. I'm not sure what the label is for it.

Agree
wish this sort of ‘speak’ would stop. Particularly on this thread with Twigs and others all hoping for an end to this war and I feel many of us coming together on that.

Its not appropriate to say she probably deliberately went off radar and quite frankly ridiculous

'Its not appropriate to say she probably deliberately went off radar and quite frankly ridiculous'

It is absolutely appropriate as that is indeed what she did when she snuck herself into Afghanistan then cashed in and wrote a book about the Taliban, who were nice/it was traumatic depending on which interview you read.

We can all 'come together' and hope we finally see an end to hamas causing so much suffering whilst point out Ridley is a liability at the same time.

The International Red Cross have done fuck all to support the hostages in the last two years.
No ‘humanitarian’ liaison whatsoever.
Useless, biased organisation.

I don't know that they've been allowed contact with them have they? I thought the Israeli hostages location was secret?

Absolutely. They even blatantly said No to delivering a box of vital medications to hostages in a videoed meeting with Netanyahu near the beginning of the war. In the end it was months before any medications got in and they were not involved in that IIRC.

That was a trigger point for me to research the ‘neutrality’ of these NGOs and the UN, which was a quite shocking.

Mind you the Red Cross has got quite a history of not helping Jewish people anyway.

The head of Turkey’s intelligence agency, İbrahim Kalın, is scheduled to arrive on Wednesday for the third day of talks.

Israel views his visit as a significant escalation of pressure on Hamas following U.S. President Donald Trump’s success in securing Turkish support for pushing his peace plan and drawing Hamas to the negotiating table.

In return for Turkey’s backing of Trump’s plan, it is slated to play a central role in Gaza’s reconstruction and in coordinating humanitarian aid into the enclave with Israel. Turkish officials have also told U.S. counterparts that they have made contact with two Hamas-affiliated groups holding Israeli captives — groups that had not previously been reachable.

The move could mark a turning point in restoring Turkey‑Israel relations, potentially lifting trade sanctions, resuming Turkish air links and reinstating diplomatic representation. Observers familiar with the negotiations believe Trump’s ability to enlist Turkey was instrumental in persuading Hamas to agree to talks.

Israeli officials expect that should Hamas resist, it would face pressure from Turkey and Qatar to expel its leadership from Doha and Istanbul — a setback from which the organization might struggle to recover.

Also reported in Ynet:

Alongside Kalın, U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff, Trump adviser Jared Kushner and Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer will arrive in Sharm el‑Sheikh on Wednesday. Qatar’s Prime Minister Mohammed Al Thani is also expected, according to Qatari reports.

Israeli officials, reflecting on the second day of negotiations, expressed “cautious optimism” and said the talks “are moving in a positive direction.” As ever, Trump sounded more buoyant, telling a joint press conference in Canada that “there is real chance we can do something. Once there is a deal, we have the power to guarantee it.”

An Egyptian source speaking to the Saudi-owned newspaper Asharq Al‑Awsat said a preliminary agreement may be reached as early as Thursday or Friday, with Trump then announcing it. The source said that if there are obstacles, the final decision might be delayed until Sunday at the latest.

The main sticking point, per the source, is the ongoing Israeli military operation; Hamas is pushing to set conditions that would allow it to deliver captives only after removals of checkpoints, Israeli withdrawal, flight suspensions or receiving hostages from other factions.

Despite the momentum, Hamas demands reported during negotiations suggest the path to agreement remains difficult. A senior Hamas official told Al Jazeera that, unlike Trump’s plan, the group opposes a partial withdrawal in exchange for all hostages. “The Hamas delegation emphasized that the release of the final hostage must be concurrent with the final withdrawal of Israeli forces. The delegation stresses the need for international guarantees for a permanent ceasefire and full withdrawal,” the official said.
