Hamas says ready to release all Israeli captives

Reported in Al Jazeera:

The Palestinian group says that, in order to end Israel’s war on Gaza and a complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from the enclave, it is ready to release all Israeli captives – both those who are living and dead – according to the exchange plan outlined in Trump’s proposal.

“In this context, the movement affirms its readiness to immediately enter into negotiations through the mediators to discuss the details of this agreement,” Hamas said in a statement shared on Telegram.

It also said it agrees to hand over the administration of Gaza to an independent body of Palestinian technocrats, “based on Palestinian national consensus and Arab and Islamic support”.

“Other issues mentioned in President Trump’s proposal regarding the future of the Gaza Strip and the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people are connected to a unified national position and relevant international laws and resolutions,” Hamas said.

They “will be addressed through a comprehensive Palestinian national framework, in which Hamas will participate and contribute responsibly”.

For everyone saying Hamas have changed terms or are seeking to, Pakistan have been clear that the draft proposal they agreed to is NOT the one that was put forward, it had already been changed and not by Hamas. The question is, by whom?

https://www.ndtv.com/world-news/after-trumps-big-praise-pakistan-says-it-backed-different-version-of-gaza-plan-9389214/amp/1

According to Pakistani Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, the 20-point Gaza plan that Trump announced this week was not in line with the draft proposed by a group of Muslim-majority countries in Washington.
"Changes were made in the plan," Dar told Pakistani lawmakers in parliament on Friday.
"I have made it clear that these 20 points, which Trump has made public, are not ours. These are not the same as ours. I say that some changes have been made in it, in the draft we had."

Correct, this is supported by the fact that the press conference was delayed.

Thankfully someone leaked the docunent with tracked changes (made to make the deal more palatable to Netanyahu).

Does it really matter at this stage?

The plan will probably be amended multiple times over the next few days as negotiations are taking place.

V interesting, thanks for sharing!

Some of the edits are just clarifications/rephrasing, but the most significant deletion is the promise of no further attacks on Qatar and some vaguely brown-nosed wording about how helpful they have been.

Also interesting that the hostages will be exchanged for 250 life sentence prisoners and 1700 Gazans detained in connection with 7/10.

At least there isn't an insertion about plans for Trump Tower and a Disney resort!

Twiglets1 · 04/10/2025 09:33

The promise of no further attacks on Qatar was swapped to a very public apology by Netanyahu to Qatar with Trump also pledging that Israel would not attack Qatar in future.

This was already evident by comparing version 1 ( the leaked plan) & version 2 (the published plan) on the thread, “Trumps new Gaza plan”.

The other changes made don’t seem significant to me, and certainly not worth worrying about now that the situation has moved on. The most up to date 20 point plan is still going to undergo changes.

Hmnnn it would be interesting If someone did that with a full document rather than the summary.

ButI don't know if the full documents have been published. There were about 20 pages long, and they go into a lot more detail.

Many of the changes here are stylistic, though there are a few that raised eyebrows.

SomeoneSomewheree · 04/10/2025 09:41

Didnt Trump says on his social platform last night that discussions are underway after Hamas gave their response? I'm going to hazard a guess that more changes and tough negotiations on both sides will continue for some time.

Alittlefeedbackwouldbenice · 04/10/2025 09:43

This explains what I mean:

"The 21-page draft document, seen by the Guardian and Haaretz in Israel, envisions the governance and reconstruction of postwar Gaza being led by international officials, with Palestinians relegated to subsidiary roles. It also proposes a Gaza investment promotion and economic development authority involving “public-private partnerships and blended finance instruments” aimed at delivering “commercially viable returns” for investors."

This was when Blair was anticipated leading it. You can see we only have the summary. So its very hard to know what's actually been changed when we are only seeing the headlines and not the documents behind it.

Quote is from this article:

Exactly. The major hurdle now is Hamas demands.

Twiglets1 · 04/10/2025 09:49

Reported by the BBC that Israeli opposition politicians back Trump’s plan.

Leader of the Opposition Yair Lapid and leader of Israel’s Democratic Party Yair Golan have called for Netanyahu to move forward with Trump’s peace plan.

Lapid has told the US administration that Netanyahu has the political backing to continue the process to end the war.

Of Course it matters. They can use it to justify backing out.

100% agree.

More moderate leaders are needed on both sides.

Yes, I agree moderates on both sides.

GinaDav · 04/10/2025 10:04

Twiglets1 · 04/10/2025 09:50

Who do you think wants to back out?

Well I think it’s obvious why it was altered to make it more palatable to Netanyahu. My guess is they changed the wording because he already refused to agree to it.

He was already disagreeing with some points as soon as it was motioned. The paper said the groundwork would be set for the potential of a Palestine, Netanyahu immediately said he would never allow that…and now other nations involved are saying this isn’t the same plan.

Then unsurprisingly on the other side Hamas want further negotiation on certain aspects before implementation.

We know that Netanyahu has a history of sabotaging any peace deal and we know Hamas has a history of stalling so in answer to your question I think there remains a possibility that both sides may find reasons to back out.

I won’t be cracking open the champagne just yet.

Twiglets1 · 04/10/2025 10:16

I think either side could find reasons to back out if they really want to @GinaDav so it’s a small point if minor changes were made to the document between the draft copy & the one announced at the press conference.

Hamas at least partially accepted the 20 point version announced at the press conference & they had plenty of time to study the details.

Probably is a bit soon to be cracking over the champagne but maybe I’ll have a glass or two of Prosecco today in a spirit of optimism that the IDF will be on the defensive not offensive now and more hostages will be home soon.

Yes they won't go quietly. They'll probably negotiate an exit out of gaza and end up in Europe claiming asylum from persecution.

It is looking like some kind of end is in sight. So that for now is something to be thankful for.

End up in Europe claiming asylum 😂
Gloriia you have a really wild imagination - where do you come up with these things from?

SomeoneSomewheree · 04/10/2025 11:14

Why would they come to Europe when they can go to Turkey or Qatar? Better weather too.

The news generally. We do have an influx of illegal immigrants, do you not follow the news at all?

Well quite. But many do come here in large numbers. Not sure if the weather has ever been a consideration tbh.

Twiglets1 · 04/10/2025 11:34

Hebrew media reporting that Netanyahu convened an emergency meeting overnight after Hamas submitted its response to the peace plan, but did not include far-right ministers Smotrich and Ben Gvir who were opposed to ending the war.

The meeting was attended by security chiefs, Defence Minister Israel Katz, and Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer.

You weren't talking about immigrants in general. You were talking about Hamas leaders knowing full well they most likely wouldn't seek asylum in Europe. I hope that wasn't a sinister attempt to derail and turn this into an immigrant bashing thread by conflating Hamas leaders with immigrants in general.

I am saying hamas terrorists will not be welcome in Egypt, Turkey Saudi or Qatar etc etc even if it is nicer weather than here. Yes Qatar have the rich bosses but they won't want the rag tag terrorists from gaza. So they may well head west. Nothing 'sinister', not derailing just stating a fact as we've seen it happen with every other conflict in the ME.

Twiglets1 · 04/10/2025 11:52

Talks between Israel and Hamas are set to start tomorrow in Egypt, Channel 12 reports, saying that they are likely to be held in the Red Sea resort city of Sharm el-Sheikh.

US envoy Steve Witkoff is on his way to Egypt.

Israel’s negotiating team is to be headed by Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer.

I think leaving is the proposal? It’s wanting to stay that’s the hurdle. Someone else might have more info, just without looking at deal

Syria, Iran, Lebanon are places in the region that have welcomed islamists in the past. They have some affiliations in those countries.

As long as they're the right type of islamist of course.
