Hamas says ready to release all Israeli captives

Reported in Al Jazeera:

The Palestinian group says that, in order to end Israel’s war on Gaza and a complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from the enclave, it is ready to release all Israeli captives – both those who are living and dead – according to the exchange plan outlined in Trump’s proposal.

“In this context, the movement affirms its readiness to immediately enter into negotiations through the mediators to discuss the details of this agreement,” Hamas said in a statement shared on Telegram.

It also said it agrees to hand over the administration of Gaza to an independent body of Palestinian technocrats, “based on Palestinian national consensus and Arab and Islamic support”.

“Other issues mentioned in President Trump’s proposal regarding the future of the Gaza Strip and the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people are connected to a unified national position and relevant international laws and resolutions,” Hamas said.

They “will be addressed through a comprehensive Palestinian national framework, in which Hamas will participate and contribute responsibly”.

The 'missing' lady wasn't missing. Appears it wasn't true.

"Yvonne Ridley is “safe and accounted for”, her family have said, after claims spread that the journalist and activist was “missing” after being detained by Israeli forces.

In a statement shared with The National on Monday evening, her family said: “Yvonne is safe and accounted for.
She remains on hunger strike and has not yet been given her regular medication
“She continues to stand firm in her principles and spirit. Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers – your messages of support mean a great deal.
“We are continuing to press for faster progress and clearer communication from those responsible.” "

She is responsible for her own hunger strike. She was responsible for getting on a flotilla and then getting herself involved in an active conflict. She may be 'older' but does she not hold any responsibility for her own actions? There are active very important talks going on the secure a peace plan surely that's really important to peace, assuming these people actually want an ongoing peace.

NototerrorismIntheUK · 08/10/2025 07:59

There is quite enough going on in the conflict without activist's ramping up the drama of their own actions. It doesn't have to be all about them.

Twiglets1 · 08/10/2025 08:03

As far as I'm concerned Yvonne is just a distraction. Whether you agree with the Flotilla or not, at this point in time it is the peace plan discussions that should be the main focus not the continued irrelevance of the people on board the flotilla who are causing all sorts of additional drama which is really not needed at the moment. Hopefully one of them will make a statement very soon confirming that they want the media to focus on the peace plan not whether Greta's bed was too hard or Yvonne has decided to start eating again or whatever.

Trump sounded more buoyant, telling a joint press conference in Canada that “there is real chance we can do something. Once there is a deal, we have the power to guarantee it.”

Bless him, you can tell his background is in real estate. He's more focused on "deals" than obstacles. But that might be no bad thing!

I agree in this context it might be a good thing that Trump is more focused on doing a deal than worrying about the deal being perfect.

Because the eventual deal could never be perfect for both sides anyway.

Compromise is needed (even for the winning side) if the peace is to last for any length of time.

Yes, and sometimes a blustery fool is a good thing to throw into the mix. Based on work meetings, it is sometimes easier to agree to something than explain the complexities to someone who simply cannot understand them!

Actually whatever anyone thinks about Greta she was spot on in her press interview when she was released . She stated she wasn’t interested in talking about conditions and treatment whilst in jail. She stated the current focus should be only on an end to the war and getting aid into Gaza

Shame she didn’t say Hamas should get a move on, release the hostages, and accept the peace deal then.

She seems to want to talk a lot about the suffering of Palestinians without mentioning Hamas at all.

Why do you think that is?

Yes I did think she handled the interview much better than some of the others. The attention should be kept on the cause, surely.

Though I also agree with @TicklishMauveSquid that she could have mentioned Hamas rather than focusing purely on Israel’s faults as she sees them.

Why do you seem to think Greta is responsible for Hamas behaviour/actions? Why does she need to make any statements about them?? Greta was trying to get aid to innocent starving Palestinians, she wasn’t focused on Hamas, they are nothing to do with her, she is nothing to do with them.

Craftysue · 08/10/2025 13:25

I sincerely hope this is true but I won't be convinced until they're back in Israel. I hope the handover happens privately especially if coffins are sadly needed. The previous hand overs were disgusting.
Hopefully this is the start of a genuine peace for all affected

Does Hamas have anything to do with the war in Gaza?

Most people would say Yes so that’s why they should be acknowledged not ignored.

Hamas have nothing to do with Greta and she has nothing to do with them - I’m saying it again for those who are hard of hearing!!
If you know of any link she has with Hamas please do share. She is under no obligation whatsoever to talk about an organisation that she is not part of.

Beachtastic · 08/10/2025 21:23

It would be hard to imagine Hamas not finding a way to get its claws into a naive mission such as this.

Trump says Israel and Hamas have agreed to first phase of Gaza peace deal, paving way for ceasefire

In a post on social media, he writes "ALL of the Hostages will be released very soon" and "Israel will withdraw their Troops to an agreed upon line"

Hamas has confirmed the deal but it has not yet received the final list of prisoners that Israel plans to release in exchange

Benjamin Netanyahu calls the agreement "a great day for Israel" and will convene his government on Thursday to approve it

A ceasefire will go into effect immediately after approval by the Israeli government around 14:00 Jerusalem time (12:00 BST)

Despite hopes this could lead to the end of the two-year war, crucial details still need to be discussed

BBC report - Here's how the next few days are expected to play out:

Thursday
The Israeli government convenes at 14:00 Jerusalem time (12:00 BST) to vote on the plan. If formally approved, the ceasefire will immediately go into effect, and Israeli troops will begin to withdraw to an agreed upon line.
Israel will allow 400 aid trucks to enter Gaza daily during the first five days, a senior Palestinian official has told the BBC.
Friday
A senior White House official speaking to the BBC's US partner, CBS News, says that it will likely take less than 24 hours for Israeli troops to finish withdrawing.
Once that is complete, the 72-hour clock begins for Hamas to release the hostages it holds in Gaza.
Monday
The US expects the release of hostages to begin on Monday, the White House official told CBS. But, they say, Hamas might try and move it earlier if possible.

Really good to wake up to the positive headlines. Well done to everyone so far for getting this closer.

Twiglets1 · 09/10/2025 07:04

Middle East and security expert HA Hellyer, a senior fellow at the Royal United Services Institute, has told Al Jazeera that the ceasefire emerged because the “United States has chosen to use its pressure, its intense diplomatic pressure on the State of Israel”.

“A secondary factor is the pressure that has been applied on Hamas by pretty much every ally or friendly country … putting a lot of pressure on them to move forward with this,” Hellyer said.

“Crucially, I think, pressure from the Palestinian population itself within the Gaza Strip. They made it very clear to Hamas that they want this to end one way or the other, and even if that means that Hamas has to make concessions,” he said.

“So, I think all of that put together, most crucially the American role, but all that put together led us to this point,” he added.
