Conflict in the Middle East

Why has the messaging on Gaza changed so suddenly in the last few weeks?

It’s really, really nice to see. Too little too late, but it’s still something. But it’s gone from covering it as if everything that was happening in Gaza was normal, firing people for speaking out (Gary Lineker), to showing the reality of what is happening and the knock on effects that will affect generations. I think we’re potentially a few weeks away from this being called what it is - a genocide. But what has caused this change?

Personal hypothesis: the starvation tactics now "yielding" pictures + sustained public outrage not being susceptible to suppression + Israeli refusal to even marginally help its defenders out on plausible deniability + European insecurity about the stability of transatlanticism + timing.

A.k.a. "convergence of factors".

But that's mostly a mathematical model.

I do wonder if Israel have been allowed to get away with it for so long that they’ve become too blatant. Anyone seeing children slowly starving to death will be moved to do something.

It just makes me so angry that it’s taken it getting to this point for people to start calling it out

Israelis in Tel Aviv are now protesting. Israel’s own inhabitants have now had enough, for a variety of reasons. So I am hoping they will help change the direction of the war.

I hope so, but I fear it’s too late.

There is a whole generation of children who won’t be able to develop properly. Their parents will be radicalised against the people who did this to them. They won’t be able to rebuild, without huge pushback from Israel. Even if the war stops, the damage is done

It’s so depressing. I am not hugely knowledgeable about everything to do with this conflict, but even I could have predicted that this war would not eliminate terrorism. I don’t think anyone is going to end up safer after this hellish period.

The war didn’t start on October 7th, it allowed Israel to be even more blatant with what they were doing. The mass starvation of Palestinians has been going on for so long. It’s like they said on sky news tonight. Air dropping aid will only prolong their suffering, because it won’t be enough.

Really, the governments complaining about Israel are hypocrites and really doing fuck all. They’re paying lip service to spare themselves from seeming too complicit. Ours included.

SomeWomanSomewhere · 25/07/2025 23:34

Not only you!

It is genuinely horrifying.

PaxAeterna · 25/07/2025 23:38

Destruction of homes… Hamas had tunnels
Killing of aid workers … sad mistake
Killing and maiming of children … collateral damage
Bombing hospitals … Hamas tunnels
Killing healthcare professionals… They were working with Hamas or sometimes sad mistakes
Destruction of water systems, sewage systems, farmland and other essentials of life … Hamas tunnels.
Shooting of aid recipients…technical error
Warnings that people are malnourished… Hamas propaganda

Now we have the actual images of children with protruding ribs and it’s very difficult for Israel to come up with a good excuse. Blocking baby formula. It’s just not possible to cover it up with lies. There is simply no good reason to starve children to death.

As the pp has said this didn't start on the 7th October. Israel has been bombing and hounding Palestinians since 1948....

Huge demonstration in TelAviv against the war.

The horrors just can’t be denied anymore

Because now there's no hiding it, people are starting to worry about what their level of complicity is going to look like in a courtroom.

Hamas ramping up propaganda again as they were supposed to be negotiating a ceasefire which they don’t want as they won’t give up the remaining hostages and demilitarise

  • the GHF initiative is proving successful in Gaza despite Hamas propaganda so Hamas and affiliates are losing money and can’t pay fighters
  • the UN can’t keep up the lies about not being able to distribute all the thousands of tonnes of aid rotting inside Gaza for long, especially now it’s being exposed
  • senior Hamas fighters are probably dwindling with recent eliminations (and they can’t use only child soldiers)
  • the IDF have cleared 75% of Gaza so hiding area is getting smaller = flood the internet with pictures of ‘starving’ babies with medical conditions and AI images of kids with horrific injuries to provoke more raging fury at Israel to pressure a ceasefire with Hamas demands as above met.

Don’t need maths even. Just to understand Hamas MO.

I was at a talk by the CEO of medicin san frontieres last week, and presuming he wasn't an actor paid by Hamas, he confirmed a lot of things that you've just denied happen.

Putting “starving” in air quotes is absolutely reprehensible.

It is actually disgusting.

pearcrumblee · 26/07/2025 07:01

“Hamas doesn’t care about the Palestinian people. They use them as human shields. The leadership lives in luxury, while the people starve.

The children of Gaza are dying because of Hamas.
They take aid money and turn it into weapons and tunnels instead of helping their people.”

The above was all written in Mosab Hassan Yousef’s in his book.

Images of children dying and starving are the worst possible images that people can see, aid floods in as a result, but it does not reach them.

Hamas leaders like Ismail Haniyeh and Khaled Mashal are living lavishly abroad.

Ayaan Ali Hirsi describes a similar thing in Somalia when she was there.

Israel has some responsibility, no doubt, and children always are the most tragic casualties of war, but all is not as straightforward.

Radioundermypillow · 26/07/2025 07:04

If the images of starving babies and families aren't real, why aren't Israel confirming that with their own documented images?

Do you deny that the IDF have murdered aid workers and medics? Because even Israel have admitted that they did (after phone footage was found)?

dairydebris · 26/07/2025 07:18

Messaging looks same as ever to me.

Gazan civilians trapped and dying between the IDF and their own sadistic government.

Western idiots only holding Israel responsible for this suffering instead of calling for Hamas to surrender.

Threads like this building hatred of Israel while adding nothing to the understanding of the situation are the actual reason Hamas doesn't surrender. More hatred of Israel is worth all the deaths of their own.

Im not coming back to reply to the accusations of my being a genocide supporter/ denier or justifying the death of innocent children. If you lot can't see how hatred like this is exactly what Hamas lives for then I can't make you.

Yes this.

Post after post with no culpability for Hamas. Israel has been bombing Palestinians since 1948, my arse. No understanding of the situation whatsoever and doing nothing whatsoever to help freee Palestinians from Hamas.
