It also seems to be beyond Hamas to stop hiding in hospitals/civilian infrastructure and using them as bases.

Why doesn’t somebody tell them to stop?

Why is every time anyone expresses concern about civilians, especially women and children in Gaza someoen always pops up to criticise Hamas
Yes, Hamas are evil but that in no way justifies Israels actions in Gaza
2 things can be wrong at the same time

They have now stepped up to blaming the dead Palestinians for not running away fast enough from the bombs. It's fucking nuts.

Because the 2 things are linked and debates tend to go off in different directions.

I can guarantee if I started a thread about how terrible October 7th was and how I feel so concerned about Israel citizens murdered or taken hostage, someone would pop up to criticise the Israel government.

Yes, the Israel government did bad things before October 7th such as allowing the Settlers but that in no way justified Hamas actions in Gaza.

I totally agree with you: 2 things can be wrong at the same time.

Body of Hamas leader Muhammad Sinwar found in Gaza tunnel struck by IDF

The Saudi channel Al-Hadath reports that the body of Muhammad Sinwar, the de facto commander of Hamas’s military wing in Gaza, was found in a tunnel in Khan Younis where the terror leader was targeted by the Israel Defense Forces last week.

According to the report, the bodies of 10 of Sinwar’s aides were found with him.
It is also reported that there is evidence that the commander of the Rafah Brigade in Hamas’s military wing, Mohammad Shabana, was also killed in the strike.

Israel has not confirmed the deaths of either Sinwar or Shabana.

The strikes on Tuesday targeted an underground command compound below the European Hospital where Sinwar was believed to be sheltering. The IDF later bombed the area several more times, in an apparent attempt to prevent anyone from approaching the tunnel.

Well done IDF.

Good job.

So Sinwar was in a tunnel. UNDER THE HOSPITAL. Doesn’t make it any less sad, but the cynical disregard by Hamas for their own people is mind blowing.

So it appears ... interesting that the IDF were obviously tipped off about it.

Hamas must be really running scared now - not knowing who they can trust and all their leaders getting picked off one by one.

Of course.

Only they weren't at war on 7 October were they?

Now they are, because Israel needs to defend itself against terrorist that would kill kids at a party and families in their beds.

And as you said, now they are at war, lots of people are dying.

7 October is turning out to be a massive, heartbreaking own goal.

killing kids at a birthday party is terrible, as is blowing up new borns in hospital, and demanding the survivors be left.

you can’t have it both ways- if the IDF’s actions can be shrugged off with c’est la guerre, then why not the same for Hamas?

This is what Haaretz says, but they are a little less definite in that they write that Security sources said they believed that if
Sinwar was there at the time of the attack, then he was hit.

Saudi channels Al-Hadath and Al-Arabiya reported Sunday that the body of Hamas leader in the Gaza Strip, Mohammed Sinwar, was found in a tunnel in Khan Yunis, along with the bodies of ten of his aides. According to the reports, Rafah Brigade Commander Mohammed Shaban was killed alongside Sinwar.

The Hamas chief was the target of an IDF Tuesday strike on the European Hospital in Khan Yunis. According to the Hamas-run Ministry of Health in Gaza, at least 16 were killed and 70 were wounded in the attack. Following the strike, security sources said they believed that if Sinwar was in the underground complex at the time of the attack, he was hit.

Article in the Telegraph today: Hospital attack was precision strike to take out Hamas leader’ (behind a paywall so I'll post main points).

The stench of death is overpowering from the moment you enter the narrow tunnel.

This is where the leader of Hamas is said to have drawn his last breath, some 26ft below Gaza’s European hospital in the west of Khan Younis.

Mohammed Sinwar was killed here on May 13 in an air strike, Israel has said.
After facing criticism for civilian deaths during the bombing, the military has brought The Telegraph here in an effort to show the attack was part of a precision strike on the terror group.

In a small room off the main tunnel, congealed blood was still visible on the floor beside several dirty mattresses.

Next to a flat-screen television, two Israeli M16 rifles hung on the wall – trophies from the Oct 7 2023 incursion and massacre, Israeli officials said.

On Sunday, the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) revealed what they claim to be Sinwar’s hiding place in a rare and tightly controlled visit inside Gaza.
One officer described the missile attack that reportedly killed him as “a world-class air strike”.

“We managed to kill a senior terrorist who was hiding under a hospital, without hitting the hospital,” he said.

However, the air strike drew international condemnation at the time.

It may not have hit the hospital itself but it appeared to have struck just outside the entrance, where patients and their loved ones walked.

Graphic CCTV footage showed bodies flung into the air and rubble showering the area, leaving a large crater behind.

Reports at the time also alleged that the IDF had used aircraft such as quad-copter drones to fire at people rushing to help those caught in the initial blasts.
Until last month, the site had been one of the Strip’s last functioning major health centres.

The IDF insisted the attack next to the hospital was targeting tunnels, which are consistently built by Hamas near and under civilian infrastructure.

On Sunday, heavily armed units led a small group of journalists – the first western reporters allowed into Gaza for months – through that tunnel.

They've found his body and proved where he was but no one cares. Proving they were right doesn't matter because mist on social media move on quickly to the next headline and aren't interested in facts.

Hamas actions have destroyed their country but the cost to their people was huge. They have achieved what they wanted.

Same story reported by the BBC:

The Israeli military has said it has located and identified the body of Mohammed Sinwar, the military leader of Palestinian armed group Hamas in Gaza.

His body was discovered in a tunnel underneath the European Hospital in the southern city of Khan Younis, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said on Sunday.
It said it had verified the body's identity through DNA checks - though Hamas has not publicly confirmed his death.

Sinwar, 49, was killed in an air strike on 13 May, which the Hamas-run civil defence agency said killed 28 people and injured dozens.

Sinwar's body was found alongside that of Mohammad Sabaneh, the commander of Hamas's Rafah Brigade, the IDF said.

It added that "several items belonging to Sinwar and Sabaneh were located, along with additional intelligence findings that were transferred for further investigation".

The IDF said other bodies were found, which it was looking to identify.
It took a small group of foreign journalists into Gaza to Khan Younis to show them the tunnel on Sunday.

It also published video of the small entrance to the tunnel, accessible through freshly dug earth just in front of the European Hospital.

The footage shows a long, narrow underground corridor that leads to several rooms.

Inside some of them, piles of clothes and plastic chairs are visible, with a rifle leaning up against the wall. One video also shows a shrouded body being pulled from the tunnel by a rope.

IDF spokesperson Brig Gen Effie Defrin said that in one of the rooms they found the Sinwar's body.

"This is another example of the cynical use by Hamas, using civilians as human shields, using civilian infrastructure, hospitals, again and again," he said.

Blueredyellowgreen · 09/06/2025 07:25

Yes they got another hamas leader, again hiding out near a hospital as is widely known, but people near the precision attack also died. That's why he was there, to make sure if he died lots of innocents died with him. Then his death would be to his cause.

"It may not have hit the hospital itself but it appeared to have struck just outside the entrance, where patients and their loved ones walked.

Graphic CCTV footage showed bodies flung into the air and rubble showering the area, leaving a large crater behind."

Twiglets1 · 09/06/2025 07:27

Yes - no one but you wanted to comment on this story, reported by the BBC as well now.

A lot of people don't care about discovering the truth of what happens in Gaza, they prefer to spend their energies point-scoring.

Yes he was as was said all along. That's how hamas have always worked. Innocent people are always killed. Israel has been damaged massively which to hamas is the bigger picture.

Of course they don't. The narrative of Israel bad is easier to believe. I wouldn't hold your breath for comments. The threads are polarized. It's a tragic situation and many people understand there is more to the conflict but I think most don't visit these boards it's too polarized and hate filled.

At the end of the day there are 2 countries that should both exist and this should have been sorted years ago but it wasn't and so oct 7th was a 2 year plan of absolute horror inflicted on one country and then war against the terrorists who happen to 'run' the other country (apparently 35,000 Hamas operatives).

It's a tragic mess. So much death and destruction. I wonder how people after WW1 and WW2 pulled themselves together and rebuilt after millions died? Need some good leaders here to rebuild.

Twiglets1 · 09/06/2025 07:59

@Martymcfly24 "but they deserved it...it was a Hamas command centre....."
(said mockingly but in fact it was a Hamas command centre. And no one said the innocent civilians caught up in the attack deserved it ).

@marmaladeandpeanutbutter "they always say they found Hamas there. Often it proves untrue, tragically." (but it was true)

@Whatsinanamehey "the media aren't buying the IDF bullshit anymore" (quoting Sky news that the IDF are lying about a Hamas complex beneath the European hospital: they weren't lying).

But nothing to say since I posted the report yesterday that western reporters have now been allowed to visit the underground command compound below the European Hospital where Sinwar (military leader of Hamas) & Sabaneh (commander of Hamas's Rafah Brigade) were sheltering.
