Israeli air strike on hospital kills 28 people in Gaza, civil defence says

Israel's military said it was targeting a Hamas command centre which it said was beneath the hospital.

A BBC cameraman who was lightly wounded captured the moment of the strike. He says sick children that were waiting to be evacuated from Gaza had gathered in the car park of the hospital when the bombs hit.

Poor children.

Risk of being shot or not, no medics I know (and I know many) would abandon babies in incubators to the enemy in a war.

You know many medics trying to work in Gaza?

Mylegishangingoff · 14/05/2025 10:16

I think the 100s of dead journalists and the threatening phone calls that photographers like Motaz received are probably evidence enough.

The children didn't start any wars. They are victims, usually people show compassion to victims.

No amount of dead children is enough for some on here to condemn the Israeli government. There is ALWAYS without fail some sort of justification for poor Israel’s conduct.

And also the ‘why aren’t you condemning Hamas’ on literally every other post when someone criticises Israel for starving a population.

They've been watching too many war movies.

I could hardly bear to read that report. Israel with your cesspit elected Govt - you cold hearted hypocritical bastards.

"In the past few days Siwar has developed a skin infection. Sores have appeared on her hands. She also has a severe gastrointestinal condition. The battle is to keep nourishment inside her. Her immune system is fighting the deprivation caused by the Israeli blockade.
The baby's cry is weak, yet it is full of urgency, the sound of a life struggling for its survival. Siwar can only drink a special milk formula due to severe allergies."

Pepsipepsi · 14/05/2025 11:46

My heart breaks for the civilians caught up in this. The amount of starving Gaza children should be evidence enough that this is a deliberate and targeted genocide.

I can't help but think what if it was me and my country being bombarded by bombs and starved and the rest of the world just stood by doing nothing and did 'whataboutery' to justify innocent people being killed.

I hope this conflict ends soon so the suffering on both sides can end but it seems doubtful atm.

Whatsinanamehey · 14/05/2025 12:15

Airstrikes this morning has killed over 50 people in the north of Gaza. The indonesian hospital have said that 22 of the dead are children.

Let that sink in, 22 children who were likely starving killed in cold blood in just one small area of Gaza. That doesn't even account for all the others who have survived but have been injured.

Just about every other government says ‘we don’t negotiate with terrorists’ but Israel are expected to, although the negotiations were probably only a tool
to get as many hostages back as possible. I don’t know how many other governments would.

Yes, and Israel is also expected to provide food, water, and utilities to a population who are trying to eradicate them. War is hell on civilians, always has been. Don't start wars and then whine when the people you wanted to genocide, actually start fighting back and doing it properly.
Gaza is and was a failed state, dedicated not to the wellbeing of its citizens, but the mindless destruction of the state of Israel and the Jewish people.

You describe what Israel is doing right now as doing it “properly”?!

Ye gods.

Telegraph article today: Israel may have assassinated Hamas leader who resisted hostage deal

Israel may have assassinated Hamas’s leader in Gaza after launching a massive air strike on a hospital.

Defence sources said they were assessing whether they had killed Mohammed Sinwar in the overnight assault. He was perceived as taking an extreme line on hostage negotiations.

The Israeli Air Force is believed to have used bunker-busting bombs among dozens of munitions in order to destroy what it described as a subterranean terrorist command and control centre at the European Hospital in Khan Younis.
It reportedly targeted the exits to the underground compound with the aim of preventing the escape of any survivors.

“[Mohammed] Sinwar was the most extreme figure in terms of negotiation positions for reaching a deal,” an official told the Jerusalem Post. “If he is out of the picture, it should ease the efforts to reach an agreement.”

From the same article:

The attack bears similarities to the assassination of the former Hezbollah leader, Hassan Nasrallah, in Beirut last December.

If confirmed, the killing would mark the IDF’s first major success in terms of taking out the terror group’s top military commanders since the ceasefire fell apart two months ago.

Sinwar, 49, took over the command of Hamas in Gaza after his older brother, Yahya, the architect of the October 7 attack, was killed by Israeli troops last October.

If the younger Sinwar has been killed, it would leave Hamas without a recognised military leader in Gaza.

The IDF did not confirm whether Sinwar had been killed. The military said it had targeted Hamas operatives in an underground command centre belonging to the terror group below the hospital.

The poster you are replying to didn't say Israel is providing them with food and water - they said Israel are expected to provide food, water, and utilities to a population who are trying to eradicate them. This is true.

You say: Israel have oppressed the people for years and now posters are coming on saying they shouldn't have started the war!

Do you actually think it's right then that Hamas did start this war?

Hoppinggreen · 14/05/2025 12:42

BreezyBertha · 13/05/2025 21:28

Very precise strikes if 6 bombs were dropped in a small area.

How many of the 28 killed were Hamas?

The IDF were going after Mohammed Sinwar, Yayha’s younger brother, who has taken over command of Hamas’s military wing from Mohammed Deif from that article.

Hope they got him.

Where is the outrage that Hamas are continuing to use hospitals for their activities, and hiding like rats the rats they are in them, causing needless civilian casualties.

I am outraged by both of those things.

Fair enough.

No one expects Israel to provide them with food and water because they certainly won't ( and I have never heard it said here or in the news that Israel should feed them) It is just expected that the won't prevent other countries from supporting them .

No I don't think Hamas should have started a war .
I also don't think Palestinians should have been oppressed and abused for years.
And I don't think using the phrase "whine" when 50,000 have died is appropriate.

They are not expected to do anything other than allow aid through and stop bombing hospitals but that seems beyond them.

BreezyBertha · 14/05/2025 12:45

Why are the usual posters castigating and demonising Israel for not stopping the war, not showing the same anger and disgust with Hamas not surrendering or returning the remaining 58 hostages they’ve been holding for over a year and a half?

They will respond that they don’t hold Hamas to the same standard as Israel of course. Why not when as a poster pointed out Palestinians (which Hamas are) have a 97% literacy rate, the same as Israelis?

It also seems to be beyond Hamas to stop hiding in hospitals/civilian infrastructure and using them as bases.

Why doesn’t somebody tell them to stop?

I didn't think you actually meant what you appeared to say, based on previous conversations. So thanks for clarifying that.

I think it's pretty obvious that many people do expect Israel to provide food and water, medical supplies etc based on the outrage shown about the fact that aid is currently being blocked.

Every one of those 22 children could still be alive if Hamas would surrender and give themselves up.

A lot of wide-eyed naivety as always on this thread about the terribleness of war.

I also missed the outrage post with everyone calling the uk evil for the war crimes commited by the SAS in Afghanistan, including "unarmed Afghans killed in cold blood".

War is hell.

Hamas need to surrender- I think time is running out before the Palestinians have no hope left at all.

I think it's pretty obvious you don't understand the issue. Israel is blocking aid supplied by other countries and ngos getting access to Gaza. Trucks with humanitarian aid are sitting on the border not allowed in. Israel has control of the borders and therefore the power to starve a population and is doing so. This is a war crime. People want an end to the blockade of aid which is completely within Israel's power to do.

smallglassbottle · 14/05/2025 13:42

It's only a war if the other side fight back. This is genocidal punishment for the 7th October attacks.

smallglassbottle · 14/05/2025 13:44

The attacks which the Israeli authorities were warned about up to a year prior to them occurring, and a week before they took place, by Egypt. The Israeli authorities dismissed the threat. Why did they happen then?
