The Israeli military says the man was a suspect in a raid in the West Bank, but its forces violated protocol.

So a new person chimed in with the usual justifications and made up scenarios, scenarios that have already been proven false. Didn't read the article, I see. Still total silence from the others, of course.

Absolutely disgraceful behaviour.

I think that people don't engage so much anymore on these threads because they are echo chambers and are always having a go at people. What's the point.

Although can say that some actions are not condoned, no one listens and incorrect assumptions are often made.

People stop bothering so threads are mainly the same people repeating the same things. Nothing on here changes anything.

I believe that the vast majority of people condemn Hamas, don't agree with some of the actions of the IDF, understand Israel's right to defend itself, are horrified at the deaths of innocents, want peace, want terrorists to be held to account, want actions to be investigated when they need to be and accountability. Want the hostages to be released and maybe a 2 state solution.

I think people stop saying this now due to inability of people determined to misunderstand or twist. People visit some threads and avoid others.

Just an opinion, worth no more or no less than anyone else's.

They were happy to engage until it was proven that the man was a civilian and that he had in fact unlawfully been used as a human shield. There were all sorts of frankly bonkers scenarios and slurs thrown around initially.

Now that we know the reports are true, there's silence.

One person made a suggestion I believe. Lots of people didn't @ConnieCounter but as with all these things there's the truth and what people say people say. Most said nothing. It's rightly being investigated.

It's tiresome and why many no longer engage. You do yourself no favours. It certainly doesn't help anyone. I occasionally bother but anyway you keep doing you and you'll go around in circles talking in an echo chamber. Goodnight and peace for all

Did you read the whole thread? It was outrageous.

Victim blaming and dismissing war crimes is never OK and should be called out. I don't really care if doing that upsets some people's sensibilities.

It doesn't upset my sensibilities. You aren't doing what you think you are doing. You are assuming people are an homogeneous bunch, we are not. Anyway as I said crack on, people won't bother to engage.

Cheers. As I said, people don't want to engage since news emerged that they had been excusing and encouraging the use of a civilian as a human shield. An innocent man who had been shot by the IDF in his relative's home, beaten and then strapped to a boiling hot jeep and driven around, obviously being denied medical treatment.

Scirocco · 01/07/2024 21:36

It really is a shame that people (not just here, but in general) were so quick to say "he must have been a terrorist", "he deserved it" and to come up with all sorts of unlikely scenarios to try to defend the IDF (like seriously suggesting this was an appropriate way to transport an injured person to hospital)... But when it comes out that he was most likely an innocent man, and that others have reported similar treatment, none of those people have found the basic compassion for a fellow human being to express "oh, we got that wrong... yeah, that's not a good thing to happen to someone".

It goes back to the double standards experienced by Palestinians: if you see someone as less of a person than you, their suffering matters less and even when declared innocent, they're still guilty of belonging to that group, so it still doesn't matter as much what people say or do to or about them.

People don't say and act like you suggest

Pointless engaging with this thread. Just like other threads. No point really. I'll stick to threads where people don't do this. I fully understand why people don't bother anymore.

Al Jazeera reports that the IDF is using Palestinians with their hands tied and a camera on them to go into tunnel shafts and buildings. This is a short Al Jazeera clip showing footage of this.

Haaretz ( Israeli newspaper) has mentioned this Al Jazeera report, suggesting that they are not dismissing it out if hand but think it is possible:

Al-Jazeera aired footage on Sunday claiming to show Israeli soldiers using Palestinians arrested in Gaza as human shields. The videos showed soldiers strapping cameras to detainees whose hands are tied and dressing them with uniform and vests before sending them into damaged houses and tunnel shafts.

It’s the 3rd comment of you saying the same thing in the evening. That we are an echo chamber and that there is no point staying here. We get it. You don’t agree with us.
now please stop derailing the thread.

Not long time ago it was reported that they had sent one of the illegally detained men to one hospital to tell people to run away because idf was going to strike the hospital. For him to get killed when he got out

It was IN RESPONSE to the many comments about people being silent and not commenting, also the various tumbleweed statements. Naturally 'all those' comments aren't considered derailing 🙄 they're OK of course 🙄

Those are things people have said, though. It's not nice to think that people have said these sorts of things, but it's reality. And the dehumanising of people who are 'other' is a recognised thing around the world, and it is widely recognised that it is done to Palestinians.

I agree there are a few posters that are hurrying so much they fail to take in the full context of some posts then are blinded by misplaced outrage. I suspect one of two of deliberately taking umbrage when there is nothing untoward in a post. This true of posters of all viewpoints; it’s not one side.

These threads have been difficult at times because it is a very sensitive topic and emotions run deep. There is a fear that no matter how carefully you word something your post may be misunderstood, and then misrepresented.

I think some posters have also disengaged for their mental well being, we are in the 9th month of a bloody catastrophic war and the human brain can only take witnessing and reading about so much suffering all around before needing to disengage for its own sanity.

People don’t like to publicly admit to being mistaken. They’d rather be silent than say anything. It is a shame. I think it takes strength to admit to a mistake and face any unconscious bias that might have led you to make such a mistake.

While your earlier post was insightful, the comment on this thread being an echo chamber was not. This thread has not been an echo chamber, I can only assume you have not read the entirety.
