Israeli Eurovision: how low can you go?

Redebs · 04/03/2024 09:21

Israeli entry in Eurovision song contest is likely to be a song called 'October Rain' sung by trans-identifying 'Eden 'Golan'.

My previous thread was deleted for pointing this out.

What's wrong with that, exactly?

And how many trans identifying singers do you think are allowed to perform in Gaza?

Hopefully even the Israel-haters will be on here soon to tell you to piss off with your transphobia.

Dulra · 04/03/2024 09:26

I think the only issue was that the lyrics were too political and as far as I am aware they have been changed so they will be allowed to perform. I personally won't be watching as a result. No idea what their name or the fact that they are trans has to do with anything?

Not sure she's trans identified since born female and still female?

Even better 😂 Transphobia where it isn't even relevant.

Not sure why this is even on this board though. Nothing to do with the conflict.

qunari · 04/03/2024 09:44

Why the scare quotes around Golan? That's her name.

0palfrootee · 04/03/2024 13:02

Didn't you already discuss this elsewhere? And it was pointed out to you that this singer was born female and still identifies as female? Such a weird thing to lie about.

Pointing what out?

25milesfromhome · 04/03/2024 13:17

I'm sure @Redebs knows that Eden Golan is female. The previously deleted thread also accused the Israelis of "playing the innocent victim" for daring to refer (obliquely) to the October 7th Hamas attack in their Eurovision entry, the lyrics of which have now been changed anyway.
Transphobic and dishonest performative outrage- definitely setting the stage for a respectful and meaningful discussion.

0palfrootee · 04/03/2024 13:19

Seems a bit unbelievable odd that you would have been deleted for telling MNers about something that's easily found on the BBC and other news outlets.

Babyboomtastic · 04/03/2024 13:36

Irrespective of lyrics, if Israel are allowed to compete this year lots of people will be boycotting the show for the hypocrisy in allowing them to take part when they (rightly IMO) banned Russia

I won't be watching it.

LindorDoubleChoc · 04/03/2024 13:40

Good lord, I'm amazed that Israel have been invited to compete at all.

25milesfromhome · 04/03/2024 13:57

So, I guess the question posed in the thread title is more of an invitation then? As demonstrated by OP immediately going pretty low. No doubt others will enthusiastically follow suit.

Because it got deleted from another board so she’s having another go.

Maddy70 · 04/03/2024 14:33

And?

Saucery · 04/03/2024 14:45

I can’t see any evidence of her being a transwoman and , gender critical though I am, I can’t see why that would matter in this context?
I mean, disagree with Israel taking part if you want to, but Golan is her surname, not a reference to anything or anywhere else.
It’s going to be tough for her given the strength of feeling about the IDF’s actions, so I hope she’s resilient enough for all the hate she’s going to get. Not that she should be getting any, but People Gonna People Hmm

PurpleChrayn · 04/03/2024 16:55

This post is the definition of scraping the barrel!

The anti-Israel loons are clearly getting desperate.

Two songs have now been rejected. "October Rain" and "Dance Forever" for being "too political".

Obviously desperate to get their message across

Lulu was allowed to sing "Boom Bang-A-Bang."

What's the message about dancing and what's wrong with it?

Humdingerydoo · 04/03/2024 18:49

I think maybe they're opposed to the message that Israelis are people too? The idea definitely seems to offend some people.

Redebs · 07/03/2024 14:52

If the singer is actually a woman, then I do apologise for the mistake. I can't find the online reference that made me think she wasn't, so I might well be mistaken.

We were subjected to a man in a dress a few years back calling himself a translation of 'Miss Sausage' (Wurst) so maybe that's where the error came from if that's the case.

Obviously what upset me was the gloating nature of the lyrics of a song that celebrates the massacre of tens of thousands of Palestinian civillians. I find it intolerable that this propaganda is allowed on supposedly independent TV channels across Europe.
