It is beyond words. I cannot believe there are still people that post on this thread suggesting that Israel aren't doing anything wrong.

I know...WHY?!

anotherlevel · 01/03/2024 18:36

That or they know it and/or acknowledge it but still defend them.

inkworks273 · 01/03/2024 18:37

They'll never admit it but they think Israel is justified in what it's doing.

Parkingt111 · 01/03/2024 21:30

The deliberate starvation of the Palestinians. Once again too little and too late from Biden. It was clear as day from the start that aid was being severely restricted and the Gazans were being collectively punished.

If he actually cared, he would offer in addition to words, some instrumental support.

Gosh all that hand wringing.

If only he had something he could leverage to get them to stop the genocide.

Parkingt111 · 01/03/2024 22:31

@FOJN exactly!

Efacsen · 02/03/2024 06:26

This may be repeating the Times of Israel post above [problems opening it] sorry
MSF also made a statement before this advising against air drops.

If Israel won't co-operate with UNWRA/local police in protecting aid convoys and IDF can't be trusted to protect convoys [the 'flour massacre' aid convoy belonged to a different ME ngo] and will do everything possible to stop aid entering Gaza there doesn't seem to be another solution?

US to begin aid airdrops into Gaza but critics dismiss effort as inadequate

The US will start airdrops of food and emergency supplies into Gaza in the next few days, Joe Biden has announced, amid UN warnings of famine and after Israeli troops opened fire on Gazans seeking food aid.

The use of airdrops is a spectacular but inefficient way of delivering aid, and Friday’s announcement suggests that Biden had given up on being able to persuade Israel in the near future to coordinate a large-scale ground-based relief effort under the threat of mass starvation across Gaza.

Critics suggested it represented no more than a gesture, which obscured Biden’s reluctance to use US leverage to force Israel to be more cooperative in the delivery of humanitarian aid.

“Airdrops are not the solution to relieve this suffering, and distract time and effort from proven solutions to help at scale,” the International Rescue Committee aid organisation said. “All diplomatic focus should be on ensuring Israel lifts its siege of Gaza.”

Israel is deliberately starving Palestinians, UN rights expert says

Exclusive: UN special rapporteur on the right to food Michael Fakhri says denial of food is war crime and constitutes ‘a situation of genocide’

Not just food

Since the war began, @UNRWA has delivered +23million litres of water to people in #Gaza
But over 1/4 of water wells have been destroyed & the water supply is at only 7% of pre-war levels

UN: Many victims of Gaza City attack have gunshot wounds
During a visit to al-Shifa Hospital, a team from the United Nations was able to confirm that many people being treated there who were victims of Thursday’s attack near Gaza City “had gunshot wounds”, said Stephane Dujarric, spokesperson for the UN secretary-general.

Gaza hospital director: 80 percent of victims of Gaza City attack at his facility were hit by gunfire
Mohammed Salha, the acting director of al-Awda Hospital in Jabalia, has confirmed that the vast majority of the Gaza City food aid attack victims brought to his health facility showed injuries from gunfire.

No surprise there. Blaming starving people for killing themselves is low even for pond life IDF.

These boards have been eerily quiet since this massacre happened. Interesting.

The UN held a urgent meeting following the flour massacre yesterday, they put forward a motion that condemned Israel for it and it was vetoed only by the US

Condemning does not do anything.
The UN cannot do anything with the veto rights of certain countries.
We need to be realistic, even if the Israeli government openly said yes we deliberately shot at the people NOTHING would change from the US or the UK government position.
Our own government who told us we are all in it together and we need to support Ukraine even if it meant higher food prices even if it meant higher fuel prices even if it meant higher gas and electricity prices are now telling us that Gaza is not on people mind and not an agenda issue when people vote - for me it is the only thing on my mind. I will sooner spoil my ballot than vote for any representative that does not value human life - all life regardless of whether it is Israeli or Palestinian. Yes Israel definitely has a right to defend itself, yes what took place in October was definitely wrong - no justification, did nothing for the Palestinian cause BUT collective punishment of people in Gaza is definitely wrong, starving people is definitely wrong, allowing right wing members of the Israeli government starting to plot taking parts of northern Gaza is definitely wrong.
The only way western governments will change their stance is if their only political seats are in danger, they care more about that then whether innocent people in Gaza are getting murdered. Shame on anyone regardless of country of origin, ethnicity, religion, political colour that does not do their research on what is happening and see that it is wrong. Like the civil rights movement and like the apartheid movement in South Africa those people are on the wrong sides of history.

@DomPom47 It is all so very hypocritical isn’t it! I am increasingly seeing a protest vote as the way to go.
To me it is the political and non extremist equivalent of setting yourself on fire. Not something I would ever literally advocate for.
If the only power us members of public have in this democracy is who we vote for, because after that point politicians stop listening, then we better vote carefully.

You have politicians who now talk of mob rule in London because they don’t agree with the politics they have MPs talking about Islamists when describing support for the Mayor or support for Gaza deliberately using words that inflame tensions. Representatives who openly talk and should talk about Antisemitism and then any talk about Islamaphobia - it’s a case of we don’t agree with that word, we don’t have a definition, that’s not what was meant etc. The hypocrisy is on a whole new level. As a government talking about so called human rights but only caring about human rights when it serves their interests. Selling weapons that aid in a conflict where the UN has serious concerns oh that’s totally okay, preventing the SNP and their motion of an immediate seize fire is totally okay….. Honestly, in my wide social circle in London where my friends, family and colleagues represent all faiths and non and all political parties and independents Gaza is the only issue. Everything else politicians can middle through. Where you cannot take a clear stand on collective punishment as wrong there are no votes to be gained from this wide wide social circle in our small corner of the UK.

There is also a BBC Verify piece.

‘The video released by the IDF is not one single sequence. It has been edited into four sections.
It shows events at two locations, both of which BBC Verify has geolocated.’

They’ve asked the IDF for the full footage.

What a surprise that the video provided by IDF to show the truth shows nothing but the truth… similar to the previous videos they’ve provided before

At least Sinwar is pleased! He does not share the horror of you all at Gaza's death toll and destruction.

@DomPom47 that speech yesterday by Sunak was terrible completely generalising and demonising an entire group of voters and then claiming the tories are a party of morals. A lot of mainstream parties in Ireland did similar when Sinn Fein started to grow in popularity but it backfired spectacularly. People don't like being told who to vote for or dictated to about what is or isn't democratic, particularly when it is coming from an unelected PM. No wonder it has been largely ignored

This is a compilation of different occasions over the past few weeks where people were shot at when trying to collect aid. All before the flour massacre on Thursday.
