Thanks for the new thread @Eyesopenwideawake

This montage is about the impact on women and children.

PeasfullPerson · 29/02/2024 16:14

The aid delivery incident - grim, depressing, disgusting, distressing.

Inexcusable. A situation created by almost five months of death, destruction and starvation. The real life Hunger games.

Ben Gvir is vile. The Israeli government are criminals.

Eyesopenwideawake · 29/02/2024 16:20

Did anyone see Ch4 news last night? Interesting that the report said that Israel media is not reporting what's happening in Gaza.

From the WHO

Hungry, thirsty and weak, more Gazans are falling sick. The report finds at least 90 per cent of children under 5 are affected by one or more infectious disease. Seventy per cent had diarrhoea in the past two weeks, a 23-fold increase compared with the 2022 baseline.

“Hunger and disease are a deadly combination,” said Dr Mike Ryan, Executive Director of WHO’s Health Emergencies Programme. ”Hungry, weakened and deeply traumatised children are more likely to get sick, and children who are sick, especially with diarrhea, cannot absorb nutrients well. It’s dangerous, and tragic, and happening before our eyes.”

Children’s lives threatened by rising malnutrition in the Gaza Strip

A steep rise in malnutrition among children and pregnant and breastfeeding women in the Gaza strip poses grave threats to their health, according to a comprehensive new analysis released by the Global Nutrition Cluster.

I didn’t see it and I just searched for a clip of it without success.

I did find this from 9 years ago.

This will be very sad if true

Biden says Gaza food aid-related deaths complicate ceasefire talks

Joe Biden got on the telephone directly with senior figures in Egypt and Qatar after the news emerged of the 100-plus people killed in Gaza City earlier today as food trucks arrived, in circumstances that have not yet become completely clear.

Egypt, Qatar and the US have been orchestrating talks for a temporary ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, which Biden had said he was hopeful could come to fruition by Monday but now, he admits, will “probably not” happen, although he has not given up hope.

PeasfullPerson · 29/02/2024 17:16

If anything this shows why a ceasefire is needed! So that more aid can come in. I don’t think this is a good reason for Hamas to not agree to one.

I’m a bit suspicious that this has come from Biden, seeing as both Israel and Hamas were far less optimistic about an agreement than he was anyway.

Efacsen · 29/02/2024 17:22

IDK but I'd say Biden is pretty desperate for a ceasefire/ any ceasefire ATM if it would prevent the bloodbath of a land invasion of Rafah

Agree that he;s been over-optimistic but think that's a measure of his desperation

Hamas frequently threaten to walk away from the negotiations

Thanks op

Just want to say thank you to everyone on this thread, I feel like I'm going mad that this horror is ignored by so many people here. At least I'm seeing it's touching many of you. It means a lot, I have friends in Gaza and family in Lebanon. 🙏

FrancescaContini · 29/02/2024 17:44

Beyond horrifying, everything happening in Gaza.

All the hand wringing over what happened in the UK Parliament with the Speaker last week and meanwhile in Gaza women are too malnourished to feed their babies and people who are desperate to feed their families have just been described by someone as “criminals storming an aid convoy” on the BBC news just now. The news also reported that as many as 25,000 women and children have been killed in Gaza since last October. I have never felt so ashamed and angry about our government.

Parkingt111 · 29/02/2024 18:01

One of the most senior US officials has revealed that the US believe that Israel have killed over 25,000 WOMEN AND CHILDREN.
its infuriating that at the start of the war they casted doubts on casualty figures when it was obvious that the casualties were extremely* *high

Reuters news agency has reported that during a congressional hearing, US defence secretary Lloyd Austin was asked how many Palestinian women and children had been killed by Israel since 7 October.
"It is over 25,000," the Pentagon chief replied.
He said Israel can and should do more to protect civilians.

This is the reality of what Israel is doing (part 2)

Shooting and running over people who are coming to get flour from them?? Just disgusting.

Wow. That's insane. Fuck Israel and the US.

PeasfullPerson · 29/02/2024 18:59

That framing of the issue, is an insult to the publics intelligence.

They should stop killing civilians. And the US should stop sending them weapons and funds that they use to kill civilians.

Mishymashy56 · 29/02/2024 19:09

I have nothing to offer. It’s been the worst few months following this and feeling so helpless. I just can’t imagine the lived existence of Palestinians in Gaza, West Bank and the rest of the world. We have a Palestinian friend in the UK and I know she’s broken by this. Can you imagine watching this unfold and seeing so many people (not to mention the GOVERNMENT) in the country you live in standing by? Posting instead on social media about the holidays they’ve booked in Egypt.

I have nothing to offer but I hope we keep this thread in the active boards. I hope it fills as quickly as the inane threads about the royal family.

FREE PALESTINE.

kirinm · 29/02/2024 19:14

It is beyond words. I cannot believe there are still people that post on this thread suggesting that Israel aren't doing anything wrong.

Efacsen · 29/02/2024 19:32

UNWRA confirm this tragedy was nothing to do with them

''Neither UNRWA nor any other UN agency were involved in this distribution.''

Dulra · 29/02/2024 19:41

I do feel for those of you in the UK having to listen to the spin and justifications from the Tories as they continue to sell arms to Israel. Not much comfort now but history will not be kind to those supporting genocide. I am in Ireland where all government parties condemn what is happening, stand with Palestinians and we do get our news from their lens
It gets worse and worse and the more the Israelis get away with the more emboldened they become. It's horrific

Mishymashy56 · 29/02/2024 19:47

@Dulra I’ve noticed that the BBC has changed its reporting in the last 3 days. Being quite critical of Israel and prioritising news from Gaza. I don’t know what’s changed for there to have been this shift. Too late in the day for any forgiveness, but it’s a shift I’ve noticed. Can’t say the same for the disgusting political parties.

Maybe the 10 babies who have died in hospital from starvation/dehydration over the last 24-48 hours has focussed some minds
