I do feel for those of you in the UK having to listen to the spin and justifications from the Tories as they continue to sell arms to Israel. Not much comfort now but history will not be kind to those supporting genocide. I am in Ireland where all government parties condemn what is happening, stand with Palestinians and we do get our news from their lens
It gets worse and worse and the more the Israelis get away with the more emboldened they become. It's horrific

We're being gaslit by our government and the MSM. When I see men, women and children being killed, maimed and starved and there are still people defending it I think I'm going mad.

I am hoping some of our politicians get an invitation to the Hague, they've earned it.

I'm sure you are aware of this man but I think he's worth sharing. Most of his shorts are comedy but you never know what will get you deleted so I'll link one of his more serious clips and leave everyone else to investigate his other work for themselves.

@Efacsen if that’s the case, then it’s a shame that the premature babies left to rot weren’t enough.

Thanks for the new thread, OP!

Look, sometimes you are just "out of words to speak, out of tears to cry, out of energy to protest"! I have just been begging and pleading with my (retired) mum "please, mum, I know you are speaking up at any opportunity! Stop onlyb speaking up and start mobilising!"

Literally everyone I know IRL- my mother and her pensioner knitting group included, but also my fellow corporate executives and literally all of the "aspiring professionals" university students that I mentor - knows what is happening and is utterly horrified!

Many of them are still too afraid to say so out loud!

I am not sure whether we still need to be "raising awareness". Awareness has been achieved.

What we need is "enouraging people who are extremely aware, utterly horrified, and want the horror to stop to either a) not have to be afraid that this will cost them their livelihood or b) stop caring [because it would not matter if we reached critical mass]).

Personally, I will most probably be arrested next week. And my firm will most definitely dismiss me for "being arrested on live TV".

So fucking be it! On balance, I pick "being a decent human being" over "a job that pays 250k pa (thereof 200k for the amount of therapy you will need if you continue to go along with this ...)". I hope we make it onto the news! That will have been the whole point!

Please don't do anything that risks your safety or the safety of others

PeasfullPerson · 29/02/2024 21:23

I second what @AliceA2021 said.

Also, please don’t give Rishi and his pals anymore reasons they can use to try and persuade the public that their own right to free speech should be taken away from them. From what I read there is a perception that sensible suggestions have been put forward, but that the language he is using is dangerous.

It sets a precedent for more rules to follow, and for the public to be quiet and have no say about whatever the government decides to do.

He’s talking about ‘mob’ rule and trying to twist the situation to say that the protests are a threat to democracy. Which is ironic given that his government is acting against the wishes of the public.

@HeidiInTheBigCity I just want to add, you sound like you are in a lot of pain. I’m sorry. It’s understandable. But please be careful.

@Efacsen from what I understand all they’ve asked is for people to now give two weeks notice for large protests.

Daniel Hagari is a lying c u next Tuesday. I'm hoping karma is a real thing.

They admitted it earlier, no doubt they are worried about international condemnation so now they're back to lying.

Quite honestly I don't give a fuck how many they actually shot and shelled, people would not be swarming aid trucks if they were not starving.

Can we please stop weaponising the perfectly normal behaviour of starving people and using it to dehumanise the Palestinians further by implying it's evidence they are savages. It's callous and racist.

Love him 👏

EasterIssland · 29/02/2024 21:52

This video is from when IDF started shooting and can see how the estampede happens after. I keep saying , the deaths from stampede we’ve seen in the last few years have been in narrow spaces and not open space like this one. Also, maybe many have died from the stampede … however, this was triggered by idf shooting at people. Israel’s government already has said it’s not safe for them to provide the aid so they just were after an excuse to stop doing it. If they don’t want to facilitate it then that’s ok but at least let other organisations do it.

Any thinking person, no matter what their doctrine, has to be horrified, disgusted and repelled by what is happening in Gaza.

Shame on the Israeli government and army. You will be judged.

@marmaladeandpeanutbutter I completely agree, so sad.

Even France have condemned the fire on unarmed civilians and calls it unjustifiable. Looks like Hagari's speedy attempt at damage control has not worked this time.

No worries!

I would never risk the safety of others. Never ever in a million years. Not even that of people I personally am firmly convinced belong in a hell I do not believe in. I would lay down my life to save theirs (even that of Bibi Netanyahu, whom I personally fucking hate with a burning passion at this point) - even if I did so wishing they would spend eternity in a hell that I do not personally believe exists. I would, on a personal level, feel obliged to.

I am, always have been, am, always will be a humanitarian first and foremost!

As for "being arrested and going to prison": no big deal! It only happens to ordinary Palestinians every single day! So who am I to shirk away from it? Several of my friends have been to prison. For "crimes" such as "taking part in a demo", "throwing stones at a tank" and similar.

So who am I to not even risk that?!

I would do THAT in a heartbeat!

AliceA2021 · 29/02/2024 23:10

I wish that a peaceful long term solution could be found. @HeidiInTheBigCity there has to be a way

HeidiInTheBigCity · 29/02/2024 23:24

PeasfullPerson · 29/02/2024 21:32

@HeidiInTheBigCity I just want to add, you sound like you are in a lot of pain. I’m sorry. It’s understandable. But please be careful.

Again, no worries! I would never, never, ever hurt anyone physically. Not even myself!

As for "emotionally": may every single person who has been defending this realise what they have done, wake up every morning, catch their own reflection in the bathroom mirror and projectile-vomit at the sight of themselves. Every day for the rest of their lives. It is not on me to make that happen but on their own conscience.

Yes, I do sound upset. I AM, in fact, upset! I have only just been "casually chatting" to a friend of mine again. He thinks my new haircut suits me and that, for a corporate portrait, I should lay off the heavy eyeliner which is - his words, not mine - "a little too Kate Middleton". He's Palestinian. Not from Gaza, "just" from the West Bank. And apart from my haircut, we also just chatted about how's your mum/dad/brother/sister? I KNEW all of it already. Apart from him, I also know his entire family. I already knew how majorly fucked up it all was!

But: okay, look! Them threatening to blow up a house I personally used to live in: yes, that DOES feel fucking personal!

Again, I would never ever physically hurt anyone! But I do wish I believed in a hell for the people who threaten to do the same to folks I know and love. I don't. But: may they feel the urge to projectile-vomit every time they catch a glimpse of themselves in a mirror!
