Conflict in the Middle East

To find the silence about UNRWA being Hamas hypocritical

1000 replies

Muthaofcats · 28/01/2024 07:35

I entirely understand the discomfort seeing images coming out of Gaza; but what I don’t get is those who choose to post about it on social media or campaign expressing their horror but being totally SILENT after October 7th (before Israeli had even responded), after evidence of the sexual violence suffered by those murdered in Israel and now, after finding out that UNWRA who they have all been sending donations to, are actually Hamas who perpetrated the atrocities.

Where is the outrage from these people at UNRWA?

Why are none of these vocal people not screaming from the roof tops at how horrendous this is !?! If it was true you care about humanity, why aren’t you horrified to learn you’ve all been donating to an organisation so closely linked to the rape and murder of innocent civilians ? (And this isn’t the first time unrwa has been linked to Hamas; their HQ is a Hamas building and they’ve famously been linked to training terrorists in their schools / got into hot water for removing the hollocaust from their curriculum)

if you are one of those white privileged women who posts on social media about a cease fire (I’m talking to those of you who have never been to the ME, or studied ME history and never taken up the cause of any of the other global conflicts); why is your outrage so one sided and blinkered ? Why don’t you acknowledge the horrors of the Israeli/ Jewish people too ? If you’re really the virtuous person you purport to be by taking up this cause, why don’t you care ? Or do you believe what Hamas did and are doing and promising to keep doing (murder all Jews) is justified ?

Genuinely find it bewildering.

You’re an absolute joke, the fact you say ‘brown lives’ reveals your racism and ignorance, you do realise most Israelis are ‘brown’!?!

pointless debating with you.

Nope, Israelis aren't considered brown by the world. That is reserved for Muslim children. And others. But then defences for collective punishment have always rung hollow to me, starting with Iraq.

MotherofGorgons · 28/01/2024 09:21

@JemimaTiggywinkles I agree that the UK government should pause funding.

WaterHound · 28/01/2024 09:21

MotherofGorgons · 28/01/2024 09:12

oh well. I see how brown lives are worth less. How many children now is it slaughtered by IDF? 10,000? 15? I stopped counting. Whatever the estimate, it's deplorable?

While Hilary Clinton tweets about Margot Robbie not getting an Oscar.

How I have said this or even implied this? This is precisely the idiotic knee jerk stupidity that social media encourages and you are indulging in it.

Guess what - it is possible to care about both 'sides' in this horrendous conflict but you are too polarised in your views to understand even the slightest nuance.

I rather think that it is YOU saying that the lives of tortured and raped women and children of Israel are worth less because you dismiss their suffering so easily. Shameful.

cindyhove · 28/01/2024 09:23

Do you actually realise or understand that the majority of Israelis are also "brown"?

MotherofGorgons · 28/01/2024 09:23

Both sides have definitely suffered, but Israel has now lost the moral upper hand with its disproportionate reaction. My view. Ad hominem attacks will not make me change it.

KrisAkabusi · 28/01/2024 09:24

Only 12!? 12 members of an organisation confirmed to have taken party in rounding up grandmothers from their beds, snatching babies from their mothers arms, having families witness each other being shot and sexually mutilated. Just pause and consider that. 12 of your colleagues took part in that behaviour and you didn’t know ? And you’re going to happily log in to your next teams call and suggest business as usual on Monday morning ?

Only 12 of 13,000! By any standard, that is a tiny proportion. "12 of your colleagues took part in that behaviour and you didn't know"
How many of your colleagues in an organisation that size would you actually know? Most people had probably never heard their names. I am in no way defend what they did, but to punish the whole organisation, and by extension the people they are helping, for the actions of such a small number, is also wrong.

Step away from the keyboard.

And no respect for anyone going "oh the poor Israeli people " whilst ignoring the mass killing of the Palestinians

Who has done this on here? Literally who FFS?

There is no reasoning with idiocy like this. These thread on MN are ro bloody depressing. The anti-semitism is just off the charts.

I made a mistake even countenancing your attempt to take this down the lines of ‘colour’. Just galling in the context of the extermination of Jews over millennia to see this now heralded as a ‘white supremacy’ issue when it was this that was used as the reason for Jewish genocide during the Holocaust.

interesting piece on this: https://prospect.org/civil-rights/jews-white-mistake-even-ask/

doubt you’re truly interested though. You seem to have very clear ideas about Jewish people which I wonder how curious you are about challenging…

The apologists were out in force last night. And if you think it’s only a tiny fraction of employees - I have a bridge to sell you.

go read up about the 3000 strong telegram group of UN Palestinians glorifying and revelling in the 7th October attack.

I am well aware of the Holocaust, as most people are. I am a bit tired of white feminism, which seems to be very keen on rescuing women and children from the hijab, by blowing them into pieces. As displayed often on MN and elsewhere.

NOTANUM · 28/01/2024 09:30

Clearly there is a big problem with anti-Semitism growing around the world. Even on the Holocaust Memorial Day the BBC resorted to showing the buildings around the country lit up in memory and I don’t blame them because they had to ensure they weren’t linking the current Israel/Gaza crisis and Judaism/Holocaust. This antisemitism is real.
The UNRWA is an org with 13,000 workers inside Gaza so I was horrified but not surprised to read some were Hamas terrorists.
Suspending aid is a challenge though if it lurches more Gazans towards famine. Does anyone know what other aid agencies are inside Gaza?

I don't give a fuck that Palestinian people support the attack

It is natural - they have been at war with Israel for decades , it wasn't a completely out of the blue attack - except that Israel throught it had controlled the Palestinians enough to prevent any major attack

The attack was the start of the escalation but not the start of the war

The Israeli action in Palestine for decades has bred hatred - don't act innocent

scorpiogirly · 28/01/2024 09:31

There is one individual on my 'friends' list on FB spouting nonsense in support of Palestine and making no bones about bringing down Israel. So I had to challenge it. His reply was that Oct 7th didn't even happen and that it's all propaganda orchestrated by Israel. I was incredulous.

These people have their heads so far up their asses they can't even see.

Deathbyathousandcats · 28/01/2024 09:31

Fuck the UN generally. Far too dominated by theocracies like Iran and regimes like Russia and China. Just like Amnesty it’s been captured by antisemites.

Even if it was just 1 it would be too many. Are you really going to try to minimise this? Why ? Why aren’t you outraged ?

Edited

Where is YOUR outrage for the countless Israeli companies and government departments who have got 12+ members of staff who carried out murders while doing national service and then go to a day job business as usual? Killed small children as sniper practice, killed elderly in their beds and have no consequences

This is every bit as hypocritical as what you are getting upset about.

If you want to be objective about it, you will see that the conflict has blurred lines between state-sanctioned war and terrorist acts

The Israeli regime’s actions and killings over the years could have qualified them to have been made a proscribed organisation if it weren’t for their lobbying power over many decades - many academics have done a side by side comparison and proven that.

It doesn’t make Hamas’s actions any less evil, but it does make those who defend one side while condemning the other total hypocrites

NOTANUM · 28/01/2024 09:33

The denial of 7th October is a problem @scorpiogirly . I can’t imagine they even believe it but instead can’t face the possibility that people act that way.

If you think that the ‘Palestinian people’ have been at war with Israel for decades, then you can’t moan about casualties of war. You’ve let your mask slip there.

If you are on social media that much, you will know that many white feminists argue that Israel should be supported because it is the only liberal democracy in the ME, which does not subjugate its women, as Hamas undoubtedly does. You can't be ignorant of this.

It's a pity that the only way to liberate Muslim women is for the US and the UK to give aid to the IDF and blow them up.

It’s deeply concerning isn’t it - I feel desperate for the innocent people in Gaza who have been so utterly let down time and again by those in a position to help them (whether that be the state they elected, hamas, or the charities purporting to be acting in their interests).

How do they not realise the damage it is causing these desperate people? It rather suggests it’s because those elected to leader Gaza simply do not care about their people and prioritise their cause (I’ll remind you hamas’ stated aim is to kill all Jews) over and above provision for citizens basic desire to live a peaceful life.

It is a good idea for us all to look up charities with a neutral humanitarian approach and rigorously scrutinise how they deliver their aid (for example so much aid is hijacked by Hamas, so how do you ensure it gets to the people who need it?)

Exactly this. I expect more of a supposedly democratic government than a barbaric terrorist organisation.
