She purposely riled everyone up about the protests and now there are far right and football hooligans planning to counter riot and incite violence.
This is known by the police hence the heightened police presence on the day.

However it's now going to look like it's because of the pro Palestine march even though they are not planning to go anywhere near the cenotaph and its just a peaceful protest.

From some reports it looks like the police are perhaps more worried about events after the march:

"Laurence Taylor, the Met’s deputy assistant commissioner, warned that the Met had also received intelligence that “large numbers of counter-protesters will be coming to London with a view to confronting those taking place in the main march”.
“I do believe if the groups come together, there will be serious disorder,” he said. “We know that there is likely to be some groups from both sides … who will likely seek each other out later on in the day.”

Counterprotest groups plan to confront pro-Palestine marchers, say Met police

Force warns that different protests will be kept apart but some may seek out trouble on Saturday

If things do kick off today, Suella's fingerprints will be all over the crime scene.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 11/11/2023 10:00

Sounds like getting the excuses in first to me - as in wait for something to kick off then blame "the other side" while claiming the troublemakers in the preferred group are "only a tiny minority"

In general I'm very much in favour of peaceful protest, but with what this is turning into I'm starting to think France have got the right idea

They should’ve played it safe and said no protests today on armistice today …I saw a poster advertising bus seats to bring people to London to have a million people March for Palestine. That size is going to cause problems and why today it just adds fuel to the situation …

FOJN · 11/11/2023 10:16

The organisers of the march need to be very clear with people attending that they must peacefully follow the route without deviation, not continue their protest anywhere after the march is over and not engage with people who would like to cause trouble.

Hopefully the protest will have marshalls of some description who will identify trouble makers to the police and have them removed or charged as applicable.

The march is nowhere near the cenotaph so if the EDL try to disrupt a peaceful protest I hope the police will deal with them and anyone else using the march as a cover for antisemitism.

I hope it all goes peacefully and aggressive disrupters are not tolerated.

Macron certainly has the right idea in calling for a ceasefire and an end to the slaughter of women and babies.

Freefree · 11/11/2023 10:22

I'm sure there will be some people on the pro Palestine march that will be there to stir up trouble, of course as people like that will use any excise to do so.
However the majority are protesting peacefully and there's many women and children going to be there too

Suella will hover over the protest on her broomstick.

Morningtroubles · 11/11/2023 10:27

I’m sure the far right protestors and football hooligans you refer to are avid followers of cabinet politics and would not have even considered counter protesting the march if they hadn’t heard the reporting of Suella’s comments on radio 4s Today programme. Absolutely.

sleepwouldbenice · 11/11/2023 10:30

Totally agree, OP. I thought this back on Monday when comments were being made, no doubt drawing attention and trouble makers to the events
I think the police have done the right thing in not banning the protests, but it's a win win situation from SBs viewpoint

Morningtroubles · 11/11/2023 10:31

Misogynistic slurs, ‘witch’ in particular, seems to be a favorite of the self-identified human rights, peace loving, pro-Palestinian marchers . I’ve seen it a lot on ME threads the past few days. It’s almost like you are more motivated by finding groups in society to other and deride, than actual human rights, about which you have a poor (non existent) grasp if you abuse women you dislike as ‘witches’.

Oh come on, you can argue that she hasn't made things worse if you want, but you can't argue that if you don't listen to radio 4 and follow politics closely you wouldn't have heard about the story.

It was widely reported on tv, and was front page news on a lot of papers including the mail and the express.

They didn't need to hear SB on Radio 4. Tommy Robinson has been rallying EDL thugs to come and protect the cenotaph. Perhaps your average street fighter doesn't follow politics but Tommy Robinson does and they follow him.

Freefree · 11/11/2023 11:05

@Morningtroubles yes because its only been reported on Radio 4 hasn't it 🙄
I don't listen to it yet I've heard.
My 10 year old son has heard about it at school ffs!
It's been reported on every channel and newspaper, plus the organisers of counter marches are all over social media asking for people to join.
The far right and hooligans probably don't have a full grasp of what the pro Palestine march is even all about to them it's been put forward about being against armistice days hence the outrage..
I mean they aren't the most intelligent lot are they, they just love violence and division

Exactly this. There have been unpleasant, racist, antisemitic slogans on placards and being shouted at all the marches so far - some far right types, but many on the left too. It's seemed pretty obvious that today was only ever going to be a scaled up version of that. By all means go along and support Palestine but at this stage you really can't claim not to know who will be marching alongside you.

That’s rather my point. Obviously the radio 4 comment was hyperbole. But everyone knows about the marches anyway, and the controversy with it being armistice day anyway.

Those people would have been on the counter protests anyway. Do I think SB should have made those comments? No. Do I think she is now responsible for there being counter protests? No. Would the counter protests have happened if she never said anything? Yes.

Laying all this at her door is just not accurate. That is was inappropriate for her to say this is a valid opinion. That she caused the protests or whatever violence there will be, is not really.

Quite. Plenty on the pro-Palestinian side have hardly shied away from being inflammatory themselves. In fact they have run towards it.

Figgygal · 11/11/2023 11:20

Bunch of sad white males effectively protesting a peace march but not ge targeting the march itself trying to cause trouble at the cenotaph
Utterly brainless idiots
Haven't got the sense to stay home

watchingtheworldwithwoe · 11/11/2023 11:22

I'm driving my brother back from university today and stopped at Leicester Forest East services on the way. Lots of coaches full of people going to the protest and one (I assume) football coach that had most people wearing poppies. Was surprised to see a lot of the protesters also wearing poppies and both groups minding their own business. Hopefully the protests will be similar and it's just scaremongering

Puzzledandpissedoff · 11/11/2023 11:24

The far right and hooligans probably don't have a full grasp of what the pro Palestine march is even all about ...

Looking at some of the interviews, neither do a number of those attending them

Unfortunately, alongside ordinary decent people, marches attract a certain mentality who have little understanding and even less sense, but who just enjoy the excitement and a few pics of them emoting publicly for their SM feeds
