She purposely riled everyone up about the protests and now there are far right and football hooligans planning to counter riot and incite violence.
This is known by the police hence the heightened police presence on the day.

However it's now going to look like it's because of the pro Palestine march even though they are not planning to go anywhere near the cenotaph and its just a peaceful protest.

@notimagain yes given the far right thugs injured nine police, including two with broken bones, you would think that they would ban far right mobs. it's clear who the violent aggressors are here.

Well given it was @jasflowers who actually said, " do we want the UK to become a China or a Russia and have Govt dictating what we can or cannot protest against?".. then maybe that's one for them to answer?

@jasflowers

Or do we want the UK to become a China or a Russia and have Govt dictating what we can or cannot protest against?

I don't think that's the problem people have with the image.

As I understand it the issue is there have been grumbles for some time, even prior to the now former Home Secretary's comments, about whether the Met really handle all demos in a balanced and objective manner. In that context of that debate the optics of that image aren't great.

Well, i m sure if the right wing EDL turned up with scarfs and children (instead of bottles and beer) then the police might pose for pic's with them too?

If large protests attract little or no violence and are relatively friendly, then the Police will accommodate.

The Police posed with Brexit protestors too, why? because a million plus marched in peace.

This just doesn't happen with far right protestors.

..and yes the Sarah Everad protest and how the Met policed that was an utter disgrace, thankfully Cressida Dick was sacked.

notimagain · 13/11/2023 09:37

The question is given how images can be used these days should Met officers be posing for these types of images at all, especially at marches with what might be construed or be deliberately portrayed as having a political slant?

I'm going to have to dig out the source but there are reports the new commissioner isn't quite as keen on some of the cuddly feely SM exposure we saw under Cressida Dick. He is rumoured to want a move to a slightly more formal style of policing, especially when it comes to mass events.

Absolutely and it was a question to those on MN who have called for the Palestine protest to be banned.

Personally i think banning should be a last resort, not even the right wing thugs, let them be arrested and their photos appear in the press so their friends work colleagues and employers know who they are......

Perhaps, then again a little kid or a gay pride protestor runs up to Police officer at a festival/march etc, what should that officer do? draw his/her baton?

Sometimes a quick friendly photo etc etc helps everything run smoothly.

I think the Police have a very difficult job to do, they walk a tightrope.

Great he sacked that absolute witch. Going to be civil war in the Tory party which is great for Labour. Win win.

Despite being a life long Labour supporter, I have zero confidence in Keir Starmer and will not be voting for the Labour Party under him. They have also fallen out of favour with many of the left given the party stance on the current conflict.

Would you prefer the Tories to stay in? Because unless you live in Brighton or a lib dem marginal, that's what would happen.

stormy4319trevor · 13/11/2023 12:11

@regularmumnotacoolmum I know what you mean, but there's still some decent people in Labour. Leaders can change. If I vote for them it will be for the party and policies, not so much the leader at the time.

Surplus2requirements · 13/11/2023 12:31

Not a bad article for the Mail to be fair.

I think it makes a difference that she was sacked rather than allowed to resign, it means she doesnt get to kick off her campaign with a resignation letter that would receive blanket coverage.

I also agree with the article that she hasn't got the support she thinks she has. She pushed too hard, too fast, too controversially leaving many tories behind and even speaking out against her.

feellikeanalien · 13/11/2023 14:16

Presumably she'll have to hold her seat first before thinking of becoming leader of the opposition. I know she has a fairly huge majority but with the state of politics in this country today who knows.

David Cameron as Foreign Secretary is just beyond belief.

Auvergne63 · 13/11/2023 15:19

jasflowers · 12/11/2023 19:47

General Sir Richard Dannat nailed it, he said he spoke to 2 D-Day veterans today about all of this and they both said "We landed in Normandy so people would have the right to protest"

Not really for us that didn't fight in WW2 to tell others they cannot protest.

Bravermann couldn't give a $x$x about Remembrance Day, she has stirred up this shit for her own families pro Israel/anti Palestine agenda and to further her career, she is a disgrace to the office of Home Secretary.

Totally agree.

That's because I didn't. And wasn't islamophobic just pointing fact about why dressing as Hamas would make people fearful. Seems like pointing out the hate on these marches upsets those who think they have right on their side so make things up. Like another poster I wish they would stop with taking over central London every week and find something more purposeful to do with their lives.

I find your attitude very arrogant and your opinion ill informed.
I marched and I haven't witness any hate at all. I also don't think I have right on my side. You appear to only be bothered about the inconvenience the marches causes to you. Very self centred.

Auvergne63 · 13/11/2023 15:39

Noelectricheating · 13/11/2023 08:45

Yes she has been sacked. Call out the hate and ask them to just not on 11th November and she gets sacked. So the marches for pro Palestine can carry on being disruptive, some of them spreading hatred and division.

She got the sack because she breached the ministerial code by trying to influence the Met. Get your facts right.

One thing we have to acknowledge is this government has given us a lot of dramatic absurd twists and turns, lurching from one horrific cock up to another. We may yet see Cameron become leader again in a couple
of weeks.

MushMonster · 13/11/2023 20:43

They are professional at giving dramatc turns, twists and what else! They should seek a career in theatre, to be frank.

Let's see if this shows them to stop telling the citizens of a democracy what they can or cannot think, what they can or cannot complaint about. And hopefully, they shall stop telling other people how to do their job when themselves are useless at theirs. But I doubt it, very much....
We will have more sacks, resignations, scandals, and yet anothercrisis in the Tory party. They still have time to get another non-elected PM in before the next elections. I think they will do it!

Surplus2requirements · 13/11/2023 21:17

@MushMonster I think this is the last throw of Sunaks dice. If the right of the party rebel it'll all fall apart.

They're all maneuvering for where they'll stand in opposition.

MushMonster · 13/11/2023 21:55

Maybe we will end with Cameron as PM, to complete the circle.

Agree
Ditto basically a labour supporter here, but SIR (as we supposedly have to always call him) is a waste of space.
Can't get out of my mind that old song chant/riff
Kier
What is he good for?
Absolutely nothing!

On saturday's march rishi suella and kier were given equal abuse.

And effectively trying to give the UK a political police.
Now that is one step away from the Nazi party.

agree - I was on the march on saturday and saw no hate and no anti semitism, I was ranging quite widely amidst the march and popping out at certain points to watch it pass. I also know someone whose major objection to the demos appears to be their minor transport issues. they seem to be incapable of working around them, or pretend to be.
