She purposely riled everyone up about the protests and now there are far right and football hooligans planning to counter riot and incite violence.
This is known by the police hence the heightened police presence on the day.

However it's now going to look like it's because of the pro Palestine march even though they are not planning to go anywhere near the cenotaph and its just a peaceful protest.

I thought UK was fighting the far right in WW2? So why are the far right now wearing poppies and defending the cenotaph?

Indeed. They obviously skipped history lessons.

MushMonster · 11/11/2023 16:38

I do hope that the whole country is watching and really seeing who Rishi, Suella and the rest of their gang are and how they are treating us like we are below the stupidest of the stupidest!
I really do not want to risk getting these lot anywhere near power ever.

To be fair, the people in the far right groups don't seem that bright...

fireworksmyass · 11/11/2023 16:44

@MrsBennetsPoorNerves and @MushMonster absolutely.

I will never ever forgive Rishi, Suella and Kier. These people should be banned from ever holding power again.

I can't argue with you. I think their IQ is lower that their shoe size.

BigMandsTattooPortfolio · 11/11/2023 16:47

You rarely meet someone on the far right with a good knowledge of British history.

Surplus2requirements · 11/11/2023 17:14

Theres always a fuss at census time among the far right that there is no White English box to tick and take offence at being called British.

Does it bother you at all that some of the counter protestors who you say "don't want Jewish people to feel unsafe" have been seen today chanting Sieg Heil and doing Nazi salutes, as reported on Sky News?

Do you think that makes Jewish people feel safer?

And should we count you in with them?

I've done a quick Google and can't find that so not sure if you've made it up or not. I expect it was just a few trouble makers as is said about the people on the " peace" march who have paraglider signs and shout about jihad. I doubt it makes any Jewish people feel as unsafe as the "peace" marches do.

How utterly cringeworthy to think the HS's motives are to wish for violence. That and the childishish nicknames attached to her. She's doing her job, you know crime prevention.

Edited

Nonsense. If she had any interest in crime prevention she would be doing much more to fund the police and the justice system properly. She is the most ineffective Home Secretary that we have had in living memory.

Reallifelurker · 11/11/2023 17:56

Just had a look at the BBC website to see how it went and it looks like some trouble was caused by “counter-protesters” who were described as far right groups/known football hooligans/ trouble makers just looking for a fight. I don’t think there was any trouble from the pro-Palestinians themselves.

Still some idiots in the mix though. Two blokes turned up in Hamas headbands (pics on SM) and now the police are trying to track them down.

Agreed, but don’t forget Boris either.

I think Boris is already banned.

FFS, I haven't made it up. I watched Martin Brunt on Sky News reporting it earlier.

Are you really saying that you think Jewish people will feel less unsafe as a result of people chanting Sieg Heil and doing Nazi salutes than they do as a result of people calling for a ceasefire in Gaza?

How is it that you're willing to dismiss this as "just a few trouble makers" while insisting that the overwhelmingly peaceful pro-Palestine marches are somehow threatening?

Yes, there will be criminal extremists on both sides, and they need to be dealt with, but the truth is, there has been far, far more trouble amongst the counter protestors, despite their overall numbers being far lower, than there have been amongst protestors on the main march.

You go ahead and align yourself with those right wing thugs if you see fit, but please don't pretend that it's out of concern for the Jewish people. Tommy Robinson and his mates couldn't give a shit about them.

JanewaysBun · 11/11/2023 18:08

If there's one thing we can agree on it's that our politicians are inept and not up to the job of serving the people

I've lived in London for 20 years and have been in the middle of a variety of different protests due to where I've worked, the big ones always have people starting trouble, the 2010 student ones were particularly scary when I got caught up in a crowd when I was going home.

The EDL type idiots are such knuckleheads, i wish they would stop trying to co-opt the poppy!

Xenia · 11/11/2023 18:08

The UK, US and many of us in the UK support Israel in this conflict, not Palestinians. It is not a right wing thug issue. It is the rule of law and democracy v Hamas terrorists and some who want Shariah law across the whole planet as their aim.

stormy4319trevor · 11/11/2023 18:10

Looks to me like our police have done a marvellous job managing a very difficult day. Well done to them.

Maybe, but unless the likes of the head band wearers mentioned by a pp get their collars in the next few days felt I'm afraid many people will continue to suspect the Met has a problem, either with bias or it's ability to police certain events.

No, @xenia, some of us just support innocent civilians on both sides of this awful conflict, and don't believe that they should be made to suffer as a result of the actions of Hamas or the Israeli government.

And if you look at who was actually out counter-protesting today, it very clearly was a right-wing thug issue, very effectively mobilised by our very right wing Home Secretary.

Polling show 76% in the UK support a ceasefire.
In the US 80% of Democrats, 57% of Independents, and 56% of Republicans

Nope I didn't say I align with Tommy Robinson. Read my post again. I think those "peace" protests are scary for Jewish people because they have told us on here and elsewhere. The chants of from the river to the sea, glorifying Hamas etc. Jewish people have been murdered in France by Islamists. Some of the people involved in the marches are Islamists. Tommy Robinson has not killed anyone.

Misogynistic slurs, ‘witch’ in particular, seems to be a favorite of the self-identified human rights, peace loving, pro-Palestinian marchers . I’ve seen it a lot on ME threads the past few days. It’s almost like you are more motivated by finding groups in society to other and deride, than actual human rights, about which you have a poor (non existent) grasp if you abuse women you dislike as ‘witches’.

You’re not wrong!
