She purposely riled everyone up about the protests and now there are far right and football hooligans planning to counter riot and incite violence.
This is known by the police hence the heightened police presence on the day.

However it's now going to look like it's because of the pro Palestine march even though they are not planning to go anywhere near the cenotaph and its just a peaceful protest.

Misogynistic slurs, ‘witch’ in particular, seems to be a favorite of the self-identified human rights, peace loving, pro-Palestinian marchers . I’ve seen it a lot on ME threads the past few days. It’s almost like you are more motivated by finding groups in society to other and deride, than actual human rights, about which you have a poor (non existent) grasp if you abuse women you dislike as ‘witches’.

What on earth are you on about?
You’ve never called a female that you disliked a slur or swear word even?

Morningtroubles · 11/11/2023 11:13

That’s rather my point. Obviously the radio 4 comment was hyperbole. But everyone knows about the marches anyway, and the controversy with it being armistice day anyway.

Those people would have been on the counter protests anyway. Do I think SB should have made those comments? No. Do I think she is now responsible for there being counter protests? No. Would the counter protests have happened if she never said anything? Yes.

Laying all this at her door is just not accurate. That is was inappropriate for her to say this is a valid opinion. That she caused the protests or whatever violence there will be, is not really.

I agree with his view. Disagreeing with her or saying it was inappropriate I can understand and agree with. But then blaming her for counter protests which were absolutely going to happen anyway, is a step too far. the marches and some of those attending have also inflamed the situation and increased anti semitism, but some on this board seem reluctant to accept that but very keen to blame Suella.

You can't deny she's not made things worse

Also to a pp, why the surprise of protesters wearing poppies?
You can be pro Palestine and wear a poppy.
Most of the people marching are marching for peace and ceasefire.

The far right and hooligans probably don't have a full grasp of what the pro Palestine march is even all about ...

Looking at some of the interviews, neither do a number of those attending them

Unfortunately, alongside ordinary decent people, marches attract a certain mentality who have little understanding and even less sense, but who just enjoy the excitement and a few pics of them emoting publicly for their SM feeds

Don’t belittle a few individuals. Just because you believe you have a deeper understanding of what is happening in the Middle East. You THINK you know better.
A minority probably don’t have a deep enough understanding of the politics behind it. But they have their reasons to March/protest. They know murdering unarmed babies in their thousands because of their religion and ethnicity is wrong. Isn’t that good enough reason for them to join without having deeper understanding of the occupation, illegal war crimes or Hamas or Idf?

I know I shouldn't have been surprised... it was my ignorance. Sorry. I know you can be both but just wasn't expecting it. It was a nice sight to see.

SB has her eye on the Leadership of the Cons Party. To move freely against Sunak she needs to be sacked by him, and supported as standing up for her principles by the more unpleasant side of the Party.
A huge dollop of self interest lies behind her actions.

Lonelycrab · 11/11/2023 11:35

Watching scenes from just now on SM.

Quite clearly many thousands have turned up for violence towards the Palestinian march. It’s on a massive scale by the looks of things. I can’t see the police containing this.

Reap what you sow, Suella you evil witch.

Creatingusernamesismygame · 11/11/2023 11:36

I’m not saying witch is appropriate, but what would you call this individual: she reminds me of Suella with her screaming and raising her voice when she’s not getting her way

What would you call this evil Israeli woman?

Media reporting suggests that the far right ambushed the police guarding the cenotaph and disrupted the 2 minute silence. So much for respecting Armistice Day/Remembrance Day. What's more comical is the applauding of it in the comments section. The mind boggles.

Or she will defect to the reform party and take any other far right mps with her.

ladeluge · 11/11/2023 11:51

SB is more Far Right than some of the Far Right protesters.

If, if... she happened to become leader of the Conservatives, I am appalled to think that she and her policies would have any support from the electorate. That is the fear for me. Under the surface, and unspoken support is out there, and it could get an outlet with SB at the helm.

Does anyone else think this or am I raving?

Hopefully the protests are peaceful. Sad to think they are coinciding with Remembrance Day though.

According to yahoo, the two minute silence was observed?

Suella has got what she wanted
EasterIssland · 11/11/2023 11:53

Is this what suella was worried about what going ti happen ? This is totally disgraceful and she should be taken accountable for all the hate she’s said this week and putting the police in the position she’s put

Classic far right strategy- she needs to go and a general election needs to be called

BethDuttonsTwin · 11/11/2023 11:59

There is ONE piece of footage a minute or two long being repeated over and over. This was a small skirmish - similar to those seen multiple times in the pro Palestine matches eg fireworks being fired at police on the last march, which I would argue was far worse. Let's not pretend this is something unprecedented and terribly shocking because it's The Other Side doing it. It was suppressed quickly and they all moved on. Hopefully we won't see anything else today, but I reiterate again, it won't be anything we haven't seen repeatedly from the pro Palestine marchers at previous events.

MyCircumference · 11/11/2023 12:00

people seem desperate to find footage

BBC has forgotten about mentioning something

RafaistheKingofClay · 11/11/2023 12:00

Charging the police and singing ‘you let your country down’ at them couldn’t possibly be down to Suella’s inflammatory comments. Even though far right thugs targeting the police was exactly what was predicted would happen as a result of her remarks.

This is near the cenotaph. We’ve not seen anything like this yet from pro Palestinian marches. Also not on a day like today. If it happens I’ll condemn it but let’s not justify what has happened today by the cenotaph.

I was watching a live feed on youtube. Nothing really happened. A bit of jostling and barrier jumping whilst they walked through a narrow spot to get to the cenotaph. The 2 min silence seemed to be observed - only thing you could hear were the helicopters.

Afterwards there was a bit of a crowd walking towards Trafalgar Square with the usual England/ Tommy R chants but then quite abruptly Robinson jumped in to a black cab and fecked off somewhere leaving them all a bit aimless. Live feed cut off then so no idea what happened since.

If anything kicks off it will be this aft when the march is happening or afterwards. I wouldn't be surprised if there's plans on both sides to seek each other out. If tomorrow arrives without incident it will be quite the miracle.

Missiles? Suella has a lot to answer for.

Iwantcakeeveryday · 11/11/2023 12:07

Do people really believe that nobody had a problem with the met police before Suella spoke? She was clearly inappropriate to do so given her position, but she is saying something a lot of people already thought. That anti-met feeling was already strong in London. For very good reason.

PaperSky · 11/11/2023 12:09

watchingtheworldwithwoe · 11/11/2023 12:03

Realistically, they were gonna show up whether Suella spoke or not.

I agree this is getting a bit hypocritical now, The Other Side throws misiles, Suella has got a lot to answer for, disgraceful etc.

The Right Side throws misiles (fireworks), tiny minority, mostly peaceful, let’s not distract from the point.

I can’t see anything major happened.

I agree with a PP, the ones who want to will seek each other out later.

Let’s just hope they’re all far away from the normal people, and they can knock themselves out. (Literally)
