Some people would choose to die in the dignity of their home
Than die homeless and humiliated in the streets
Nowhere is safe in Gaza. Yes some places are slightly safer than others but there's no guarantee you won't be killed in the south either.

Plus some people cannot leave - it's a 15 mile walk to the 'safe' area, no cars any longer, only the occ donkey cart so too far for anyone frail, elderly, injured, sick or disabled

And most people will already be exhausted thirsty and hungry before setting out on this enforced journey

I thought Israel had already told the families of the hostages that they had retrieved?
When they first retrieved the bodies?

IDK it's confusing no names were taken off Israel's list and the number didn't go down

If the bodies were in a bad way - DNA would only now be becoming available?

Efacsen · 07/11/2023 23:29

Latest in the Guardian - 100s of thousands of people still in encircled Gaza City - so sounds like not many left

And just as a reminder there's likely thousands and thousands of white UN refugee tents stuck on some lorry in Egypt that could have been used to shelter these poor people and might have changed their view on whether it was better to stay or leave

I’ve been wanting to write this so many times but deleted it because I thought no one would get the reference so LOOOL this gave me a good chuckle. We would be friends offline ❤️

Pre=war population of Gaza City was 700k

CatsArePawesome · 12/11/2023 04:29

Would those who’ve been defending Israel in this chat now like to explain why Israel, with a history of targeting hospitals, having denied targeting the Al Ahli Arab Hospital, are now targeting the Al-Shifa Hospital? To the extent that Doctors Without Borders, an international organisation, have put out statements begging Israelis to stop shooting children?

MissyB1 · 12/11/2023 12:26

There was a member of the Israeli Government in Laura Kuensberg this morning who insisted it was Hamas attacking the hospitals 🙄 what can you do they won’t acknowledge the truth?? I bet she really wanted to call him a liar!

Stomacharmeleon · 12/11/2023 14:33

Hamas had 'no comment' on article although denied they had a command point underneath the hospital.

SomeCatFromJapan · 12/11/2023 15:51

There's currently heavy fighting around the hospital. Given that I'm pretty sure the doctors and patients aren't firing on the IDF it does rather suggest the presence of Hamas.

Parkingt111 · 12/11/2023 16:15

@SomeCatFromJapan remember that video where you were saying that apparently it was Hamas shooting the civilians trying to leave from the North? There was clearly children visible In the road filled with shot bodies
Well the IDF have finally been questioned about it today
We're those dead kids also Hamas? Who were openly shot at whilst trying to leave?

SomeCatFromJapan · 12/11/2023 16:17

Well yes, there are currently active fire fights going on which was why there was the attempt at mass evacuation that everyone decried a couple of days ago.

You clearly said that 'apparently' it was Hamas shooting its own civilians whilst the Israelis were trying to help them evacuate.
When the scum IDF shot them and admitted to doing so

SomeCatFromJapan · 12/11/2023 16:22

Yes I'm careful to caveat most of the things I relay as I've got no way of knowing for certain - none of us do.
The IDF said they shot Hamas members. Maybe they were. Maybe they were civilians. That's the point, neither of us know for sure. You post as if you don't believe Hamas exists in Gaza, almost.

Parkingt111 · 12/11/2023 16:22

Some propaganda pages will go to any length to blame everything on Hamas, which means the crimes of the IDF are just dismissed as unfortunate
This is a war and there's very few who at this stage still believe that the IDF care about the Palestinian civilians. Even those who did at the start are finally starting to realise

SomeCatFromJapan · 12/11/2023 16:23

I kind of do blame the whole thing on Hamas, yes. That's always been my point. They commited the 7 October atrocities and they've embedded themselves in civilian infrastructure, and here we are.

Parkingt111 · 12/11/2023 16:25

@SomeCatFromJapan yes it's thoughts like this that allows such massacres to take place. Because the opposition has no accountability.

Around the hospital or from within the hospital. There's a fairly important distinction to be made there.

Stomacharmeleon · 12/11/2023 17:09

Wall Street journal says around hospital which is making it difficult for anyone to leave or help to get through.
No side comes out well with this.
But Hamas then saying they won't talk about the hostages due to the situation with the hospital and blaming Israel is difficult to understand when they are fighting amongst the buildings. It's almost as though they are trying to provoke a situation....

Desertrose2023 · 12/11/2023 18:05

Meanwhile the director of Al shifa hospital has just announced all the patients in the ICU have now died due to a lack of power. That’s in addition to the premature babies who’ve now died due to ventilators no longer working.

congratulations Israel! Fantastic job on eradicating Hamas and defending yourself against premature infants and life support patients.

in other news 12 Palestinians dead already from starvation and dehydration. clearly this has made Israel safer after 7th October. Bravo israel! A job well done.

Yes they must be so proud of themselves defeating those dangerous patients on ventilators! Especially the babies who were clearly card carrying members of Hamas!

The world must never forget this.

I think Briahna Joy Gray, lawyer and Bernie Sanders’ former Press Secretary, sums this up perfectly. @SomeCatFromJapan your bigotry and ignorance is showing.

“Hamas are using human shields”: debunked
Hamas have always denied civilian shields, hiding in hospitals etc. Major investigations have never found any evidence either. The only parties to ever state this are Israel and its allies, and they are erroneously stating it as fact. Even the BBC’s Jeremy Bowen back in 2014 came out on record to say he’d seen no evidence of this.

“Israel has the right to defend itself”: debunked
Again Israel and its allies are erroneously stating this as fact, when legally it’s not true. In 2004 the International Court of Justice found that Israel could not invoke Article 51 of the UN Charter- the basis of any right to exercise self defence- because Israel cannot ‘defend’ itself from a territory that it is occupying. Essentially in the eyes of international law it is the aggressor.

For anyone who still has any doubts about Israel's intentions in Gaza, here is a reminder, straight from the horse's mouth:
