Conflict in the Middle East

To think Hamas have given Israel the excuse they were looking for?

1000 replies

MistyMooPup · 10/10/2023 12:14

Not all of Israel. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said he will obliterate Hamas. But undoubtedly hundred if not thousands of civilians will now be killed.

I’m not sure what Hamas thought the end game if this would be? What have the Iranians convinced them of? This was a sophisticated operation, outside help was given for definite.

I’m not sure it’s possible to rationalise with dehumanised terrorists, neither am I sure what the end game will be, but I just can’t understand what Hamas expected if not a total war/strikes from Israel in retaliation.

TBF, a lot of us spoke of our sadness about those poor babies. The other night.

Nobody did
Not a single person
Not even you
It was straight on to well what about the hostages
Again implying I don't care about them

Think you will find I did! I said how I wish I hadn't looked at the picture.

All I will say to you unless you've personally experienced hostility the way @BlurredEdges has, its advisable to tread carefully.

I don't know about the poster you directed this too but I have. My whole life I have. As a Muslim woman who dresses in a way that makes my faith quite apparent I have been on the recieving end of racism my whole life
It didn't turn me into a hater who has no empathy for others though

I am talking about what I posted last night. Its on page 32 of this thread
You can check not a single person did
Intact I was attacked with what about the hostages straight after

I don't think anyone with a semblance of understanding of living in a diverse society successfully should underestimate the damage protests like this will have if the antisemitism is allowed to take full view. You can cut it however you like; release that particular genie out of the bottle and you will get a counter reaction.

Jews are a small minority in the U.K. Very small.

This war is going to go on for a long time. If there are protests like this with open antisemitism then you will have a significant public order problem.

I'm sure BlurredEdges wouldn't want people being Islamaphobic. I used her as an example to show how it was wrong because she posted a few posts back. I'm not asking/expecting anyone to denounce anything just because they happen to be a certain religion. I am saying that it is wrong to do that, no matter what religion you are doing it to.

SinnerBoy · 22/10/2023 21:05

Polly

You are being obtuse, aren't you? I first heard about dhimmi status years ago, I'm not a newcomer to this discussion. I've worked in Egypt on and off since the 90s and worked with all kinds of people, it was a Coptic guy who told me.

I notice that, despite saying I wasn't right, you haven't troubled yourself to put me right.

As for what did or didn't happen in 1938, or 80 years ago, it's a non sequitur and I don't want to go down that rabbit hole.

I think any Muslims that lived in the UK in the period following 911 would say that they have experienced hostility of this kind…

Parkingt111 · 22/10/2023 21:15

@Wonkasworld I'm sure you can see the double standards

When people lament and protest the innocent civilians that are being murdered in palestine. The babies who are dying. The schools and hospitals and shelters being bombed we are told by alot of the posters well tough it's war and these things happen in war

And yet when one or two posters say their feelings were hurt and they felt unsafe because of a march everyone suddenly rallys around that it shouldn't happen. Anyone who supports the marches are wrong, bad, terrible people

Feelings were hurt?

We don’t want Jewish people to feel unsafe in the U.K., no. We’ve seen where antisemitism can lead.

1dayatatime · 22/10/2023 21:18

@Parkingt111

I just wanted to comment on a few of your posts

"I don't agree with those who use the marches as an excuse to display their anti semitism. The posters who have engaged with me will know I condemn Hamas over and over and over again."

You have been very open and clear on both your condemnation of Hamas and your condemnation of those who seek to hijack the protests for their own anti semitic views.

"I for one will exercise my right to protest and stand in solidarity with the innocent Palestinian people"

As is your absolute right to do so in a peaceful manner (which judging by your posts I truly believe you would do so).

"I put up a post about the names of four murdered babies and I got nothing except what about the hostages?"

Because on all the threads on this topic if you make any valid fact based argument, regardless of which side of the issue, you will immediately be countered with whataboutery or a dismissal of facts as fake.

++++

No we don't. I was a child post 9/11
Not only did I experience racism, so did everyone else I knew
I remember walking in town once with my dad and a group of thugs came up to him swearing and calling him a terrorist. Threatening to bear him up.
Why would I want anyone else to feel like that? Why would I condone it?
The minority who were anti semitic in the march probably always had those views. As they were dim enough to show the world I hope they are recognised and arrested.
It does not take away from the essence of being able to march and protest peacefully in solidarity with the innocent people of Gaza

As the hospitals in Gaza are starting to run out of cloth to even shroud the deceased, as whole families and neighbourhoods are being wiped out. More than a thousand innocent children have been murdered in Gaza.
I for one will exercise my right to protest and stand in solidarity with the innocent Palestinian people

That picture was a woman marching in Warsaw, Poland. It is disgusting but not a reflection of the London march. 100'000 marchers with only 10 arrests.

The Met Police were actually really good and set out the rules clearly prior to the March, making it clear that there is no place for Antisemitism and Islamophobia and what would constitute such.

What there is on social media is a lot of actual racists "if they don't like it here, they can get out" sorts reporting everything to the police. They're really happy to be able to bash the brown people freely again.

Great to see that idiot has been made to feel uncomfortable. That's exactly how she was making Jewish people feel. Reap what you sow.

So all the how dreadful were the London protesters was based on something that happened 100s miles away
