Conflict in the Middle East

To think Hamas have given Israel the excuse they were looking for?

1000 replies

MistyMooPup · 10/10/2023 12:14

Not all of Israel. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said he will obliterate Hamas. But undoubtedly hundred if not thousands of civilians will now be killed.

I’m not sure what Hamas thought the end game if this would be? What have the Iranians convinced them of? This was a sophisticated operation, outside help was given for definite.

I’m not sure it’s possible to rationalise with dehumanised terrorists, neither am I sure what the end game will be, but I just can’t understand what Hamas expected if not a total war/strikes from Israel in retaliation.

It absolutely does!

Go back and read the thread!

See what was said about the London protest

That's all you're bothered about 🙄

No

I prefer the truth

Not made up nonsense

I'd have thought any right thinking person would - but clearly not you -not your cup of tea eh?

You mean like the truth about who bombed the hospital, that kind of truth? Yes, I can see how misinformation, to you, is a big thing.

From reading your posts @Wonkasworld, it seems as though any thought, comment or question that is not a condemnation of Hamas or the issue of racism against Jewish people is irrelevant. There are other related discussions such as the plight of the Palestinians, people’s right to protest and the importance of accurate information spreading. Someone’s interest in these things doesn’t warrant your ‘that’s all you care about.’ Or ‘you sound like a 15 year old.’

I think the disgusting thing, who was holding that placard is being dealt with. I would say that's more important than in what city she was found doing it. Wouldn't you agree?

I don’t think it’s a question of ranking the importance. I think your post was disregarding the relevance of where the woman when we were in the middle of a conversation about the potential antisemitism of the London protest. Lots of replies had spoke about how the people marching alongside her were condoning her awful banner and that the police had allowed it when that was not the case if she wasn’t even in London. The location seemed very significant when arguing that the London protests were inherently racist and antisemitic but suddenly it’s location is irrelevant or unimportant when we find out it’s not in London…make it make sense.

25milesfromhome · 22/10/2023 23:52

@BelleHathor thank you for the clarification.
@Efacsen Look at my post again. I didn’t know the picture was taken in Warsaw, but I also didn’t say it was in London. (A Norwegian med student in Warsaw! Antisemitism is just so multicultural!) I posted it as an example of antisemitism dressed up as “Free Palestine”.
My sister’s experience of the march in London was real, other Jewish people’s experiences of the march in London were real. I also believe people who attended the march, said it was all fine and they saw nothing untoward because all of those things can be true at the same time.
I didn’t see anyone claiming the London protests were inherently racist and antisemitic- I didn’t claim that because I don’t think that, but there have been strong antisemitic elements in marches around the world, including London, and people have stood by and said nothing.
And now I’ll stop talking about it because that’s not even what this thread is about.

As people were talking about the protest in London earlier, I was speaking to someone who attended yesterday and he has been to many palestinian protests over the years. He said this was by far the biggest one he has every attended.
Another point he said was he spoke to many many people there and the majority said they were not Muslim. They all agreed the attacks by Hamas were wrong. But every single one felt the response by Israel by collective punishment and sealing aid was atrocious.

I wonder if the statisticians among us can tell us what % of 100,000 people you need to interview, in order to get a representative sample?? 🤔

beachcitygirl · 23/10/2023 09:45

I'm afraid all sympathy with Israeli government and its supporters is gone.

Anyone supporting the actions of Israel needs to look into their own dark soul.

Some idiot (that should have been arrested) with a horrible poster on a March or some antisemitic idiots is not equivalent to the murderous actions of Israel.

I was at the march supporting A free Palestine and will be at every other one moving forward.

I will boycott Israeli produce and any and every company that supports them.
I will move heaven &'earth to see Sunak out of government.

And before anyone jumps in with

Their whataboutery
I've already condemned Hamas horrific actions.
Every decent human being on here already has but anyone at all worried about innocent Palestinians gets a charge of antisemitism thrown at them.
It's pathetic.

There is blatant islamophobia in the uk
There is blatant antisemitism in the uk
There is blatant racism in the uk

These people are Neanderthals encouraged by a hard right tory government that many of the posters will have voted for. Look to yourselves as to why such horrors are on the rise in the uk.

I have not a single ounce of sympathy for the warmongering blood on their hands Israeli politicians anymore.

My sympathies rest with the innocent people of Gaza & the Israeli hostages first and foremost.

Then the innocent Israelis who don't support this action (and they are plentiful)

The Israeli people voted who in Netanyahu and his murdering fascist ilk. I hope they see the light & rise against. I doubt that sadly.

The people of Gaza are occupied by terrorists of Hamas and the Israeli murderers.

It makes me shudder by the minute.
Beyond tragic
Those poor poor kids in Gaza

And yet when one or two posters say their feelings were hurt and they felt unsafe

Feelings were hurt?

We don’t want Jewish people to feel unsafe in the U.K., no. We’ve seen where antisemitism can lead.

>>We don’t want Jewish people to feel unsafe in the U.K., no.
Agreed - most reasonable people would feel the same.

.

FordAnglia · 23/10/2023 10:31

asking what your point was.
As I said.
For it's perfectly possible for someone to agree on both those points and go on one of the London free palestine marches and to condemn decades of international law breaking by Israel.

will respond to post from individuals, whatever their background.
"Jewish" people have all sorts of views on all sorts of things.
If you as an individual of whatever background have a point to make, feel free.

You are bit dogged with your non point. I have no idea why. I’m being as blunt and clear here.

If you want to read an individual’s perspective go to @BlurredEdges post.

I have read it and believe her. I also believe the people behind the statement issued today, from many people with Jewish backgrounds.

If someone says they do not feel safe due to their background, I believe them. Whether ‘you as an individual’ dismiss it is up to you.

That you can’t see any of this is not really my issue, but yours.

Devastatingly personal & upsetting post/video by Gigi Hadid Father today about his upbringing in Palestine.

So how would you deal with Hamas?
