Hi all,
yes, I'm new to mumsnet and new to TTC - planning to start from 1st Jan.
Is anyone in the same boat and as excited / impatient about it as me?!
Also reading some of the other notes from TTC'ers and am realising there is so much yet I have no idea about!
Hope to hear from you.

Hello girls
Well amazingly I got the BFP this week.
I am quite stunned as convinced I was in for the long haul.
Is very early days, so not yet convinced it's happening.
I agree with you babybecks and calligraphy - I have been 'going though the motions' at work for sometime. Even more absent minded now.

Picklepants · 03/03/2010 15:26

Congrats artyparty!! That's fab news! No wonder you're absent minded at work I'm also experiencing the not-giving-a-toss-about-work thing! I never gave much of a toss anyway but still..

AF got me the other day so it's back to SWI for me. But I'm quite encouraged that my cycle seems to be regular-ish. I'm very grateful for that after reading so many posts on MN about irregular cycles - was mildly terrified after stumbling across a thread about Cerazette (the mini pill I was on for a short time before TTC) causing irregular cycles and fertility problems!

Fingers crossed that AF is on the way for you babybecks

rosietoestoo · 03/03/2010 15:44

Hi there I'm new to MN- hope you don't mind me popping in here.

At the moment am just starting to think how to get myself in the best possible shape for pragnancy- very excited indeed about this (though a little scared, but in a good way i think!). Eat fairly healthy & exercise abit anyway & dont smoke. But do like wine...guess that'll have to go! Does anyone have any other tips/ things I might not be thinking of doing? planning to start next month so just gearing up! Any advice greatly appreciated !

SparrowGirl · 03/03/2010 20:12

Congratulations ArtyParty! Keep us updated on your progress and lots of hugs

I haven't been about for a bit as been really busy but just trying to get through the 2WW. Only 9 days to go till AF due providing my cycle is regular that is. Unfortunately we've had loads of friends coming to stay for the past couple of weeks and the DP inconsiderately refuses to have loads of sex when our flat is rammed full of other people. I had never realised what a shy thing he was So I am pretty sure that we missed the magic days this month as I had to wait for the brief moments we have had the place to ourselves.

Ho hum...still on the plus side I'm feeling slightly less crazy at the moment then I did at the same time last month so maybe I'm getting better at this.

Hi all, can I join you?

DH and I decided to TTC in January and naively thought it would be pretty straight-forward and happen quickly... I can't believe it's taken me until my 30s to realise just how narrow the 'window of opportunity' is!

I'm still getting to grips with my cycle (stopped taking the pill a year ago and still working out my dates) and all the abbreviations, so please bear with me!

Thanks so much BabyBecks Calligraphy SparrowGirl and Picklepants and welcome to the madness rosie and jumpingjack*

In answer to your questions Calligraphy, we have only been TTC since Jan this year, tho' I promptly got ill was taking meds so missed out on the crucial days I think.

So this is my first proper go... and am stunned as I'm 35 and DH is 40. Was convinced it was going to take a year or so!

I felt like I had terrible period pain and then had a couple of queasy sleepless nights. But what a shock the next morning when I did the test.

Fingers crossed that all is well

Going to see the Doctor next week.

rosietoestoo · 05/03/2010 18:46

Thanks for your welcomes & advice! Many congratulations to artyparty, wonderful news.

Sorry if this has been gone over many times before but just wondering how people find the whole basal body temp monitoring? Is it useful or abit of a dark art? Got a wee thermometer the other day. already use persona but i suppose every little bit of info helps!

I'm trying to resist the urge to start charting temps as I think I might get a bit obsessed with drawing graphs and the DP will get totally freaked out. I was considering trying those ovulation stick test things that you pee on just around the time when I think I'm ovulating to check if I'm right. I figured I can do this in a sneaky fashion and he might not notice...

Does anyone else use these? Are they worth the effort?

Jojo7 · 07/03/2010 05:39

Hi All, congratulations Artyparty, yeah I can imagine you couldn't believe it when the test finally showed positive!

I'm just rejoining after a few months of indecision...with DH job hunting we didn't want to add to the pressure after all. But we're back on it now and I am all sorted for pre-prgenancy vitamins (surprisingly expensive!) and starting to eat healthily.. feeling very excited.

Babybecks, you're experience with charting is really useful. Though I would say that for the moment Sparrowgirl, I'm with you, I'm sure I would freak out DH with temperature charting. I was think I'm going to give it a couple of months just counting my cycle and and seeing what happens.... then maybe going for the sticks.. but would be interested to know if people have found the sticks good (sorry if this has been covered in the past)..

Hello,

Just to warn you this all might be a tad TMI but I just had to post because I am going a bit crazy. I swear my sex drive has gone completely loopy this month!

Usually, and this was the case even when I was on contraception, I get ridiculously randy for a few days around ovulation time and then after ovulation I just kinda lose interest. However, this month for about the past week and a half I have been constantly in a state of excessive ... um ...well, bunnies on heat come to mind... anyway even the DP is starting to get a little bemused by it. It was fun for a bit but really is starting to get a little frustrating (in oh so many ways!). My AF is due on friday and usually at this point in my cycle I'm just being polite if you know what I mean.

Do you think it could be a late side effect of coming off the mirena? Or is this just another one of those crazy hormonal things that apparently happens when you let your body do it's own thing. Seriously, since I stopped taking any hormonal contraceptives I have become increasingly annoyed by the apparent weirdness of the female cycle!! I mean, one minute I'm shockingly happy, the next I'm depressed then I'm randy as a stoat in spring, then I'm shouting and in tears...I am seriously tempted to just get the damn coil put back in so I can have a small moment of sanity . Aargghh!

Hmm...sorry about that. I think I might go have a lie down now... [sheepish face]

Good luck BabyBecks!

I broke and just took an early response and got a BFN. I feel totally gutted about it. Far more so then when I got a BFN last month. I know my AF isn't due till friday and then only if my cycle is the same length as last month so there is still the chance that I just tested too early but I'm feeling really fed up about it this afternoon

I just want this cycle to be over now so I can start having another go. I've decided that I will definitely give the ov test sticks a go next month. Then at least I will feel I'm doing something.

Thanks for the sympathy vibes BabyBecks

You are completely right, I tested way too early and it wasn't even in the morning so no real reason to get so worked up about it. There is still time and as you say, if not this month then there is always next month

Next month I'm going to have a proper go at checking my cm and using the ov sticks as I think it's time I got a bit more proactive!

Artyparty · 10/03/2010 20:23

Good luck with it this month babybecks - I'm sure you're in with a chance. Virtual positive vibes coming your way
SarrowGirl, if it doesn't happen this month, treat yourself to a huge glass of wine, a hot sauna, a lovely latte and piping hot bath... all things you will be missing soon enough!!!
Fingers crossed everyone. XXX
PS the other threads are too scary so I'm staying here for a bit if that's ok.

Hey there ArtyParty. Stay around as long as you like. You are our beacon of hope!

Good luck at the Gynae BabyBecks! I hope they can sort you out. I feel slightly weird saying I hope your AF starts soon

My AF started thursday morning. A day earlier so this cycle was 24 days! Also, again it's really, really heavy. [TMI Warning!] I'm going through a super tampon in under 2 hrs, which is getting ridiculous. It was the same last month. I'm a a bit worried that having short cycles and really heavy periods might be bad when it comes to conceiving. Though I'm probably just being paranoid

Ho hum...pass me that glass of wine and show me to the sauna!

Jojo7 · 13/03/2010 23:27

Hi all,
Sparrowgirl it sounds like a bit of a week...I must say I'm with you on the sex drive thing, this is my first month au naturelle for many years and it feels great! I never want to go back on the pill again! Sorry to hear though that you got the AF but you are now close to next month and a fresh start at it. Hope you are having a chilled out weekend.
Artparty yeah please do stay for as long as you like.. let us know if there is anything interesting on the more 'advanced threads'. How you going with it all?
Babybecks good luck at the gynae if it comes to that but still a few weeks of possibility before then.
This is really my first month TTC and I'm feeling optimistic (probably foolishly) about it... oh well I should just enjoy that feeling for now.
One question for any of you... I've cut down on alcohol obviously, but am not sure on whether to cut it out completely or not whilst trying. What have you guys done about the the odd glass of wine?

Hi everyone, I've just joined up. Just starting thinking about TTC but feeling totally overwhelmed. So many questions about finances and living space (we're in a one-bed flat at the mo and not exactly high earners!!). Should we just start TTC or wait for a better situation?
