Hi all,
yes, I'm new to mumsnet and new to TTC - planning to start from 1st Jan.
Is anyone in the same boat and as excited / impatient about it as me?!
Also reading some of the other notes from TTC'ers and am realising there is so much yet I have no idea about!
Hope to hear from you.

Hiya all, newbie here, TTC for 5m, but have sperm allergie issues, using Ov sticks to narrow down window, but am pretty sure that antihystamies and painkillers are not great for boosting fertility. Have GYN appt in April, but DH looking for work so if he finds a job will struggle to get time off. Anyone have any advice?

SparrowGirl · 14/03/2010 20:05

Hi there MishAbs and Icklemoo. Welcome to the funhouse!

MishAbs, I spent a long time agonising about whether we were financially ready and stable and all that stuff but in the end I came to the realisation that there was never going to come a time when I could say with certainty that everything was going to be perfect for the next however many years. There was always going to be the possibility of restructuring at work or the DP being made redundant or the house falling down or the world coming to a sudden and messy end. If you start thinking like that then you will never have a baby as you will be forever waiting for some mythical point in the future.

So in the end I gave up worrying about it on the basis that it would all work out in the end

Good luck!!

Hey BabyBecks. Sorry to hear you're feeling down. Have some happy joyness vibes .

It still might be too early to be getting pregnancy symptoms and anyway it seems to me that all the pregnancy symptoms are pretty much the same as AF symptoms so who can possibly say which is which until the fateful day arrives....I think what I'm trying to say is you never know till the red lady sings, or not as the case may be!

Our fridge freezer is broken so we had to throw out loads of stuff that went bad. Now we have to wait for the landlord to get us a new one which is a bit of a pain. Ho hum...at least it distracts me from thinking about babies for a bit...

Hi all,
babybecks, thanks very much for your alcohol advice... I have cut right down i.e. no wine at home, just one glass if I go out... i will see how it goes, if I have probs after a few months then I will possibly cut if out even more. Not easy though... have a spagetti marina on the hob right now (live in Oz at the mo so 11 hrs ahead!) and would so love a glass of white wine with it! Oh well.. better get used to that anyway for when the fateful day arrives!

Do you mind clarifying some of the acronyms? Sorry for being a complete dense.. I did check on the acronyms page but no answers! CD and ww and the main ones that I'm confused about...

Mishabs, welcome, I'll say the same as the others... I do think there is never a right time. Obviously you don't want to put too much pressure on yourself but given time to conceive and pg time the baby wouldn't arrive for quite a while anyway. My DH is looking for a job now actually as he is on a temporary contract but we have figured there is no way that will be the case in a year or so's time.

I'm trying really really hard not to talk about TTC too much with DH - don't want it to become too much of a BIG thing, but I will probably start talking about it more if the months pass with no luck.

Hi there all,
Babybecks, thanks for the explanation!.. All making sense now... As it's the first month for me off of the pill I have no idea what my cycle is doing.. I think this month is about hoping for ov and trying to work out what my own timings are like.
Yes, I'm from the UK but in Oz. If we manage to get pg then big decision over whether to come back to UK or stay here for bit longer...
Sparrow, I hope your shiny new fridge has arrived and is storing lots of good food for you.
I re-read the 'what to eat when TTC' advice again yesterday and discovered that we're not supposed to have vitamin A. Glad I read that as I had been having vitamin supplements containing vit A, interspersed with proper pre-conception vits... so I will stop that and go completely onto the pre-conception vits.
I hope everyone is feeling positive and the wait is going ok.

Oh my God Babybeck that is fantastic!!! Congratulations!! No need for gynae or accupuncture!
Although the Sex and the City boxset may still prove invaluable..

Please do stay to chat... it is really encouraging to hear a positive result!
Gosh I bet you can't think about anything else....
Have a great day.

Oh Wow! BabyBecks is pregnant! I am actually excessivly excited for you considering we have never met Please do stay about and keep us updated on how it's all going.

I had EWCM today. Hurrah! So made DP some poached eggs for breakfast and demanaded sex in return. Bribery is always a reliable strategy I find. If I've done my sums right then I should be ovulating today or tomorrow. I have a feeling that I have oved today so BDing yesterday and today will be the first time I have actually managed to do it at the right time. I even remembered to stay still and stick a pillow under by bum for 10 minutes. I'm not sure if this actually has any effect on the outcome but I felt unnecessarily proud of myself none the less . Anyway, I am hoping to get some more BDing in tonight and tomorrow and then I think I have done all I can for the month.

The sun has come out as well which is always a bonus.

Oh yes...fridge update. It is arriving on wednesday as it is DP's birthday and he has the week off work adn can be in to meet it. The lucky thing! The current one has decided to be a bit cold but being very noisy about it.

Ah ha! The pillow thing is clearly the secret I have been waiting for!

DP has rather inconveniently decided to go round a friends house to make strange noises on little boxes...I am told it is music related. This is despite me putting clean sheets on the bed and everything! Sometimes I wonder why I bother. Still I have given him strict instructions to wake me up when he gets home though he pointed out that usually I sleepily threaten him with castration when he tries any funny business when I'm asleep, which wouldn't help much.

Oh well, I will have to make do with a bath I suppose.

Jojo7 · 21/03/2010 21:53

The pillow thing! I'm so glad others are really doing the pillow thing. Between us, I have been trying to make the most of gravity by propping my body up on the headboard for a few mins!... I know, I know, but perhaps it is the secret!

Babybecks.. I do have one question about charting. Where do you buy the temping kit? I had a look in the supermarket yesterday but could only find the LH monitoring kit... maybe I just need to try a different store.

Hey Sparrow, your poached eggs morning sounds like a great deal! Sending you positive ov vibes....

Hmm... i am familiar with overly cold, noisy fridge problem... mine is doing something similar so it might be on it's last legs also.

However, even worse...the joys of living in Oz... there are now cockroaches in our kitchen. Apparently they do appear in clean kitchens (not just dirty ones)... so that it all a little horrible but going to call a pest agency today.

I hope you are enjoying reading your books Babybecks! Do you know when you're going to tell people yet?

Hey all, firstly congrats BabyBecks!

Just a little update, we are still TTC, but on a really long cycle at the mo so nothing interesting to write on that front.

Hopefully now we completed the move things should get back to normal...

Glad everyone else is well

SparrowGirl · 22/03/2010 20:09

I too have had considered putting my feet up on the headboard but thought that the DP might think I'm even more loony then he imagined so have resisted thus far.

Cockroaches definitely beat noisy fridges in the unpleasent things to have in your kitchen stakes...[yuk face]

Hey oneof8 glad you haven't left us. Hope your cycle and moving are both sorted out soon

Artyparty · 23/03/2010 12:27

Congratulations Babybecks - so pleased for you after all your effort and set backs.
The science really does work.
I also did 'the pillow thing' - it was the only thing I did differently.
Good luck all you girls.

Which thread are you going to now "becks"???
Have you seen a Doctor yet?

Picklepants · 23/03/2010 15:22

Congrats on your little miracle Babybecks!! How lovely! Please do hang around and keep us updated.

With one thing or another DH and I haven't really had much time for TTC lately, so I'm not sure we've got much chance this time round. It's a bit annoying as I kind of feel like it's a missed opportunity (what if this was the month, etc!), but I'm trying very hard to keep chilled out about the whole thing, especially around him. But still. GARGH!

(Good job Pickle )

SparrowGirl · 23/03/2010 19:40

Aarghh! Got ewcm again today when I was sure I ovulated on sunday. It's not fair...it shouldn't be aloud to be so confusing.

Must find DP and demand sex immediately...darn, he's gone out again. Humph!

BabsH · 23/03/2010 19:58

Hi guys,

just wanted to pop in and congratulate all you newly pregnant ladies! I'm still waiting for July when we start trying after our wedding, but am so chuffed for you guys and hoping that I'll be as lucky!

My friends were telling me about the pillow trick on the weekend, how funny!!!

OneOf8 · 25/03/2010 12:02

Anyone ever complained about the efficiency of the NHS?

Had my GP check today for my now non-visible & no longer painful cheek issue (Hospital in 6 weeks so GP wanted to check if need to pull appt forward) and happened to ask about how the TTC is going as had discussed at previous appt that I am slightly crazy (under pressure was her term)

Told her about lack of AF and made the joke def not pg although keeping home testing in business!

She asked how long it had been... confirmed I don't think had a proper one since coming off pill - as we discussed this at last appt about the type of pill I had been on etc

She asked me to remind her when this was "oooh, last 1/4 2009 - erm, Sept/Oct?? I cant recall, I have it in the diary at home..." Truth = last 1/4 2009 - Dec... figured could hurt to have it on my notes in case of issue down the line.

She then completed a form and sent me down stairs for a blood test as it "wouldn't hurt to do this now, as today is blood day (day they have the vampire nurse at this site) rather than let you wait for another appointment next week just to do this then, saves us all time really"

On the one hand, very good service as I have been told to wait till 6/9 months before going to get checked out based on the pill I had been on being ?stronger? (and have been under fair amount of pressure) - on the other hand I went into this totally blind as I only needed to show my cheek is still slightly swollen but continuing to get back to normal.
I noted down what she was requesting, but no idea what they are for (as totally unprepared for this)

Does anyone know of a easy to understand website for a) decoding the blood test codes (what the letters stand for/what is being analysed) and b) website to explain what I should be expecting as "normal" results - as Dr said I would only need to go back if the results suggest things have not returned to normal yet, as may need to consider a "jump start"

Be grateful for any advice/direction re this.

On a another note think karma was at play, as I was wearing a fitted top - which I had to take off as sleeve did not roll past my elbow and had the ugliest bra on (a medieval contraption that is design for torture, and to hold everything where it should be as top unforgiving to natural movement)
Moral lesson - where good underware daily - not just when you are trying to get your own way at home
