Anyone else trying to get pregnant and want to talk about it?

I thought I'd start this thread as monkey and I have been talking about getting pregnant on another thread. Is it just the 2 of us? Anyway, this might be a good place to talk about it before (and if) we can add to the expecting in 2003 thread

My ds is just 5 so if I do get pregnant soon-ish he will be 6 when any half sibling is born (separated from his father). I feel ambivalent about being pregnant again, as I've said elsewhere. Some days I feel excited at the prospect, some days I think Oh No, no sleep, ever again...Anyway, I thought we could all (or both if it's just the 2 of us!) chat about ttc, pregnancy tests and feelings here. For me I have to say that starting trying was strange (sorry if this is too much info) as it's the first time I've ever had sex whilst deliberately trying to get pregnant, as ds was a happy mistake. Very odd...

Marina - working on that helpline ... don't you think they've heard no end of bizarre things? I bet dropping your machine down the loo will seem pretty tame. Tried putting it on the radiator for a couple of days??

monkey · 11/11/2002 11:40

How did you manage to hold off for 9 days Lizzer?

tigermoth · 11/11/2002 11:55

Lizzer, best of luck!

I LOVE this thread, even though I'm pregnant fascinating reading, and good luck to all of you!

Lizzer · 11/11/2002 12:20

I can hear it now...
Marina: Ring-ring "Hi, is that provident insurance? Yes, well I'd like to make a claim please...Of course, its erm.... its erm...a personal item... yes, its a....erm....how shall i put it?"

Ok, off to Boots in an hour. Deep breaths. Monkey The reason I managed to convice myself there was nothing to worry about was that I feel sooooooo premenstrual, every day since friday before last. But also there's that wonderful place I like to go to a lot in my life called 'Ignorance is Bliss' Have you heard of it? Its beautiful, really worth a trip....

bluestar · 11/11/2002 13:02

Also am a few days late but do have a slightly irregular cycle and have done a test, but -ve. Does anyone else find it frustrating that you do have some symptoms, are not usually this late but a test is not showing positive? How long can it take for a test to show positive? Of course, I could just be in a for a late one, and if I am, I wish it would hurry up!!!!

monkey · 11/11/2002 13:37

bluestar let me think mmmmm yes! I'm not 3 or is it 4 weeks late. I've lost track now. Still got symptoms, but it's got to the point I can't decide what's a 'syptom' & what's normal. Do my boobs feel funny or is it just the cold? My appetite's all over the place, but maybe it's just cos I'm tired & lazy. aha! tired!!!!! You see, I dunno whether I'm coming or going.

I felt the way you do when I was a few days late. Now I'm a few weeks late I just feel fed up.

The test should show up pos (if you are) say a couple of days late. Then if neg they say repeat again in a week. Mind you, I'm a fine one to ask.

Bayleaf - why are digital ear thermometers not to be relied on. My cousin (the nurse) always told me they were the most reliable.

bluestar · 11/11/2002 13:49

I know how you feel Monkey. I am constantly hungry but am I just being greedy? I'm sleeping badly and waking for a wee; also having vivid dreams (including one about giving birth!!); have sore breasts (but not all the time); feel a bit nauseas (but again could be I'm eating too much!). As my cycle is a bit irregular (34-38 days), I can't be sure when a positive would show positive (now on day 42). Hopefully will know either way sooner rather than later!

monkey · 11/11/2002 13:55

Sorry - that's I'm NOW 3 or 4 weeks late. Reading Lizzer's post has made me all twitchy & wanting to rush for the pg test too.

monkey · 11/11/2002 13:57

good luck bluestar & lizzer too

bayleaf · 11/11/2002 14:05

Wills - I've no idea - but that is the received wisdom of sites that are BIG on basal body temp charting. I have to say that our ear thermom. can be quite variable - you can take it 3 times and get 3 differnt readings - but mabe I'm just incompetent.
MOnkey - have you been back in touch with your GP now the weekend is over? I know i wouldn't be able to wait any longer!
Lizzer - 'Bon courage' as they say in France!

WideWebWitch · 11/11/2002 14:08

Oooh, good luck Lizzer! Monkey, didn't you buy one of those packs of preg tests from that link? How can you stand it?!!! (I know, you can't) Just ordered a pack of 5, they're so cheap. Thanks for that GillW. Marina, hope your insurance pays out!

Tinker · 11/11/2002 14:46

dot, thanks for that.

Gosh, it's almost like having a live pregnancy test on here.

janh · 11/11/2002 14:49

Marina, is a Persona an electronic thing? Only my DS dropped his mobile phone in the loo, it went blank and useless, but after it had dried out it worked properly again. Does this help at all?

(NB I am only visiting this thread but lots of luck to everybody who is trying !)

jodee · 11/11/2002 15:00

Oooh I can't stand the waiting - hurry up and tell us Lizzer!

buttercup · 11/11/2002 15:19

also just started trying for number 2 and am six days late. Am going to do test tomorrow but am so irregular I'm trying not to get my hopes up. But I'm already a bundle of nerves just thinking about that little blue line. Good luck Lizzer.

ScummyMummy · 11/11/2002 15:22

Wow Lizzer! You're back with a bang! I've missed you.
Good luck with the pregnancy test... I'm getting excited

Joe1 · 11/11/2002 16:06

Gor blimey Lizzer. Good luck. It can work after a short time, I had only been with dh for 5 months when I fell pregnant and now have a gorgeous dd too now.

I wasnt going to come on onto mumsnet for a while but glad I took one last look.

buttercup · 11/11/2002 16:39

S*. no sooner did I log off I found I had got my period. Sooo disappointing.

jodee · 11/11/2002 17:07

Sorry, Buttercup.

Lizzer · 11/11/2002 20:12

Ok folks, waiting over......ran back to friend's house with 3 tests (Well, they were on special offer in Boots!) after dropping dd at playschool. And the result? Negative. I should be happy, really really happy. Its good for ALL the RIGHT reasons. So why do I feel a bit sad....

jodee · 11/11/2002 20:40

Thanks for letting us know, Lizzer. I don't know whether to be happy or sad for you, maybe a little of both, as that's how you are feeling. Sending Hugs to you. xx

buttercup · 11/11/2002 20:40

lizzer - i know exactly how you feel. Dont know how to do the sad face on my keyboard. However much sense it makes not to have another one now, its impossible not to get excited when it feels like one might actually be on the way!
