Anyone else trying to get pregnant and want to talk about it?

I thought I'd start this thread as monkey and I have been talking about getting pregnant on another thread. Is it just the 2 of us? Anyway, this might be a good place to talk about it before (and if) we can add to the expecting in 2003 thread

My ds is just 5 so if I do get pregnant soon-ish he will be 6 when any half sibling is born (separated from his father). I feel ambivalent about being pregnant again, as I've said elsewhere. Some days I feel excited at the prospect, some days I think Oh No, no sleep, ever again...Anyway, I thought we could all (or both if it's just the 2 of us!) chat about ttc, pregnancy tests and feelings here. For me I have to say that starting trying was strange (sorry if this is too much info) as it's the first time I've ever had sex whilst deliberately trying to get pregnant, as ds was a happy mistake. Very odd...

Does anyone mind a new voice on here? And one at present childless at that! I've read all the other contributions to this thread and I so know that feeling of hope followed by disappointment followed by determination not to let it Get One Down... it's happened to me so many times, and I also know the feeling when you feel that everyone in the universe, from the models and popstars on the telly to the woman in the corner shop, seems to be pregnant, EXCEPT YOU. And it only took a five minute standing-up B*nk in a Broom Cupboard for that whatsername of Boris Becker's to get up the spout and what's she got that you haven't...???

Was hoping to be pregnant this month but period was just late damn it. On the success stories front, well I'm not one of them myself so far BUT I do have one friend who has managed two successful IVF pregnancies from three treatments which in her late 30s/early 40s is pretty good going, especially after 8 years of trying to conceive naturally. Shows there's always hope!

The main tip my gynaecologist told me (from Hammersmith Hospital - has anyone else been there, and if so what do they think of it?) was to have sex every other day and not to be too concerned with counting days in the cycle, because one's ovulation is seldom bang on day 14, and I must say I've given up on those ovulation testing kits as I could never get them to work. Has anyone else had problems with those? I've even given up temperature charting as my temperature was up and down like the proverbial whore's drawers and I never knew what was going on and I always ended up forgetting to take it before getting up to go to the loo in a stupor first thing in the morning, as you do, then getting back to bed and seeing the thermometer sitting there on the bedside table...

Just a last minute late night thought - how come, relatively speaking, there are so few women gynaecologists/ obstetricians?

Good luck to everyone currently trying to conceive!

Nerthus - welcome!!! I have been ttc for 6/7months now and have tried the ovulation kits and also never got anywhere with them. I am now using persona in order to try and build a picture of my cycle. I think the main thing is to try and relax -something which I haven't managed to do yet. I know exactly how you feel - I have friends who conceived within a month or two of trying etc etc. I am lucky, I know because I already have ds but thought it would all happen quickly the second time around.
Best of luck and keep going, we will all get there in the end. Unfortunately there has been a lack of success stories recently on the conception threads but hopefully that means that soon enough someone will have a positive test!!!

Ah, relaxation!! Blessed but sadly elusive process!!

Haven't tried Persona LucieB, good idea! And good luck to you too!

I used the Clearblue ovulation tests when 3 months of trying produced no results. I'm happy to say that they worked for us as we hit the jackpot the first month we tried the tests.
Though I do think they're expensive at £20 for 5.

GillW · 23/05/2003 07:37

EJsMum - you can get ovulation testing kits much cheaper from here

Ghosty · 23/05/2003 08:51

Ovulation kits in NZ cost $90 ... that's 30 quid! That is really really expensive as you can buy a lot more for 30 quid here than you can in the UK ....
I haven't gone down that route yet ... will see about it.
I have still not decided on going on the pill for 3 months ... a doctor friend of mine has suggested that maybe I ought to get a second opinion ... as my periods are long rather than irregular (although they are more irregular than they used to be)
I am due on any day now ... pretty certain I am not pg ... although we ... you know ... quite a bit this month ... just don't feel it ....
Ho hum ...

Ghosty · 23/05/2003 08:53

Erm ... just had a thought ... I have lost track of which one of these threads I last posted on ... there are about 3 I think ... can anyone point me in the right direction to the current one please ....??

bayleaf · 23/05/2003 16:21

Yes - It's the one with a similar title but the number 3 at the end - this and no 2 are too long and take my old computer ages to load ( no broad band in the sticks)
