Me and DH got £150 to share between us

carries · 29/12/2007 12:25

God Bless my MIL and I mean that. She bought me a Boden coat and A box set of Penguin Classic audio CD books (we share a love of books). Plus she took both DD out for the day on Christmas eve, Took DD1 (3.5) out ofr a couple of hours on Boxing Day morning, and has take her out again today to let me get my house back to order after the festivities.

She is a gem.

mrsshackleton · 29/12/2007 13:36

As I have posted already on aibu she gave my two dds golliwogs, which I am not 100 per cent thrilled about - trying to make a point about political correctness grrr.
She actually gave me a rather nice cardigan and camisole to my amazement

TuttiFrutti · 29/12/2007 14:41

Very jealous of all of you.

My MIL gave me a plastic bag containing a pair of tights (not even in my size), a box of tissues and a bag of dried apricots like you buy in the supermarket. I can't decide if it was meant to be deliberately insulting or just a bit mad. She can be both...

ComeOVenReadyturkey · 29/12/2007 14:43

Mine gave me shampoo and conditioner (not even a gift box). DH got a leather jacket.

UnquietDad · 29/12/2007 14:46

DW agreed with her family only to do presents to/from the children this time, which they all stuck to.

My mum got us some M&S vouchers. Pretty pleased with those! We can go and buy something in the sales.

rainbowbadger · 29/12/2007 16:33

Answer to Jo Malone questions - I'd be jealous of me too > and its the orangy one - I must be a great dil too though as I gave her the Jo Malone box set of 12 mini bath oils ..... I can adopt you all into our very pleasently scented family in time for next Xmas if you like!!(fgrin)

MummyAnnabella · 29/12/2007 17:24

i got a basket of pot pourri in return for a new mobile phone and a fill of her oil tank!

juicychops · 29/12/2007 17:31

mine got me a big Body Shop gift set and got my ds a game from ELC

emj23 · 29/12/2007 19:45

Mine forgot to buy me anything so gave me a card with £100 in it. Woohoo!

LyraSilvertinsel · 29/12/2007 19:56

MIL is dead but FIL sent a cheque for £100 which we spent on Wii games for us all.

Flo23 · 29/12/2007 20:08

A pair of knee high boots, not sure where that idea came from as I dont need or want any. She said she got them to fit the larger calf...they are too big, so she will be keeping them herself.

Carries, am sooo of you!

bramblebooks · 29/12/2007 21:50

mine got me a glitter encrusted jewellry box with nail varnish which may well flake off after 5 mins. I don't want to be ungrateful, but it is truly hideous.

For my birthdays (the past 20 of them, bar one!) she has got me ..... nothing.

My DH (her 'only') usually gets £100 quid from her.

digitalgirl · 29/12/2007 23:30

I got a hideous reduced-in-the-sale m&s dressing gown (she left the pricetag on) and a top from wallis which is too big. Kind of glad she didn't spend too much money. She always buys us hurridly snatched rubbish.

EandMsmum · 30/12/2007 10:51

So far nothing, were on way to see FIL and step MIL when we were involved in a car crash (car written off). Lets see if they post DD's presents! If previous years are anything to go by, presents will be pretty bad, would be nice if they could buy us a new car but don't think that is likely to happen!! They haven't even called to see how we are after crash

loopybear · 30/12/2007 20:31

MIL gave DH, DD and Me £20 for the 3 of us!!!! She told DH that she had got SIL (DH's sister) a pair of diamond earing, so DH went and bought her some really nice pressies thinking that she may at least treat SIL and our DD the same!

pair of slippers, nightie, bath set, perfume all from Avon

suedonim · 30/12/2007 22:59

I eventually tracked my MIL down. She's apparently written our cards with cheques enc but hasn't posted them yet as it's a 'bit complicated'. Maybe if the govt hadn't closed down all the local post offices, life would be a little less complicated for almost 88yo elderly ladies......

Joash · 30/12/2007 23:18

Some gorgeous smellies, books, a CD, some champagne truffles and a cheque - no-one ever get me smellies, so she makes a point of buying me a load each year.

Joash · 30/12/2007 23:19

oh 2 cheques actually - she sent the first a few days before xmas with a list of wines, etc that I had to get for the chrissy period and the second cheque in with my pressies.
Did i mention that I lurve my MIL??

SKF · 31/12/2007 13:26

Wow, hope you're all ok, EandMsmum. What a horrible thing to happen at Christmas!!

We got a white egyptian cotton duvet cover (which we asked for) as a joint present, DH got a nice cardie and I also got a pair of gorgeous silver earrings which I love. We put the nice bedding on last night and it is LUSH.

I really love my MIL, she is truly a wonderful lady and is always very thoughtful with gifts.

bigwombat · 31/12/2007 13:58

My ex-MIL never gave Xmas presents to adults, only the children. Their family don't really do Xmas at all. Dp's Mum bought me some very nice toiletries from Boots and a make-up bag (including anti-aging/wrinkle cream, which I was actually considering buying myself, so not offended!)

EandMsmum · 31/12/2007 18:06

Thanks SKF, we're all fine.
Step MIL phoned yest to ask how we were, then told my DH what a nice time they had with the rest of the family/meal etc!
Tho' looks like lots of people have awful MIL's

itsahardknocklife · 31/12/2007 18:20

DH and I got a couple of sets of towels from my FIL and stepMIL. I'm quite pleased with that - last year I got a dressing gown that was far too small from a very cheap shop. I never get birthday gifts from them, so the towels weren't bad, I thought!
