lazawreath · 25/12/2007 23:00

Bugger all! She dead! I told dh 'that's no excuse'

pinkbubble · 25/12/2007 23:02

Oh Maxi, I spent the day with my MIL, she was lovely and on her best behavior as was FIL _ He let DDs paint his hair blue, pink and silver (they got hair creation thingies!) Great time was had by all!

Now my best Christmas present was not to hear from my Mother at all!

GrinningSoul · 25/12/2007 23:18

we got a fantastic iDock/dab radio thingy jointly, and i have a subscription to Easy Living hurrahhhh. very kind.

JackieNoel · 25/12/2007 23:19

2 magazine subscriptions (Vogue and Easy Living), and a box of chocolates - fab. I'm very lucky to have lovely ILs.

JackieNoel · 25/12/2007 23:20

Oooh - GrinningSoul - X-post and snap.

LadyOfWassail · 25/12/2007 23:22

A really weirdy necklace and a dressing gown stinking of her fags and perfume still in its Matalan bag. ungrateful sod, aren't I? Better than my mums tiny bottle of bath foam and a tiny torch for DH (but she did say central heating was part of the Christmas present which swings it abit).

horsemadgal · 26/12/2007 00:27

Money and Maltesers here, fab!

DanJARMouse, swap your Impulse set for my Tweed set???

TheChristmasFaggot · 26/12/2007 00:39

Estee Lauder face cream, calendar, chocolates, copies of some professional photo's of the DCs she had taken in the summer.

Custy - families are annoying and especially at Christmas. Have a rant and put it behind you (at least until next time).

CharlieAndLolasMummy · 26/12/2007 06:48

The dc got car tidies. We are talking black pvc from Lidl. Given that they are 4 and 2 I was actually quite proud of how tactful they were on the phone "ooh grandma, we've NEVER had a car tidy before". "I know" said grandma, pointedly.

I think they will have to go in The Box.

I got an amaryllis just as I do every single fecking year. I think they go on 2-1 at Wilkinsons or somewhere in early December. Oh except last year when I got car mats. The state of our car is a matter of great concern for MIL.

JingleBelgoHoHoHo · 26/12/2007 07:01

A hideous large Father Christmas shaped candle, which she tried to foist on dh and I several years ago, but we refused. She obviously realised if she wrapped it up as a present this year and gave it to us, it would be difficult for us to refuse. We accepted and plan on burning it up completely at the first opporunity, so at least we can say we have used it.

LIZS · 26/12/2007 08:06

A book on healthy eating and a pottery garden ornament.

DrNortherner · 26/12/2007 08:10

I got a gorgeous red leather Nine West handbag.

bran · 26/12/2007 08:44

Mine nearly gave me one of the "Chicken Soup for the Soul" series, the entrepreneur version I think. Fortunately DH talked her out of it and she gave me a Reader's Digest decorating book for stress-free living.

JingleBelgoHoHoHo · 26/12/2007 08:52

you got some nice presents DrNorthener.

Astrophe · 26/12/2007 09:00

nuthin.

whispywhisp · 26/12/2007 09:05

Absolutely nothing, zilch, zero.....she doesn't like me...never got her head round the idea that I married her son. ...after 17yrs of marriage you'd have thought she'd have accepted me by now!

glaskham · 26/12/2007 09:06

from MIL and step-dad i got a stunning skirt from next which she accidentally left the price tag on.....and a top from next too, hubby got some gorge jeans and a cashmere jumper....plus she gave us £100 a month ago to help us pay for the car repairs we needed for it to pass its MOT so we could spend £100 of our money on a nice xmas!!- which was very much appreciated, but not asked for....and his grandparents gave us a chunk of money too, told us to buy a real tree, new decs for it, a luxury xmas feast and some presents for each other as all our xmas spends had gone into making the kids piles of toys better!! it was lovely....i felt bad taking it, but they said if we didn't then we'd only get it given in a xmas card with the same instructions!!

Step-MIL and dad though is a completely different story though, still haven't even seen her, was DS's 3rd bday on friday too (21st dec) and had no card in the post or even a call/text for him....i'm betting he'll get £10 in a card for bday as they never buy a gift...he's 3 ffs, he doesn't need a tenner, he'd rather get a colouring book and a box of crayons that costs £2 but a tiny bit of effort, but no, they'd rather not!! and xmas, again no call or text, DH phoned yesterday evening before kids went to bed but no answer, he expects they were pissed and asleep as they normally are at that time...and no doubt their presents for xmas (if they even have one) will be baby toys they picked up from asda with their shopping!!

Astrophe · 26/12/2007 09:12

actually, neither MIL or step MIL sent anything to any of us, not even the kids Thankfuly they are too little to really notice, but next year DD might

glaskham · 26/12/2007 09:13

oh and to make things worse....a couple of weeks ago she phoned me (sounding pissed out of her tree) and asked if it was my dd's birthday on the 21st....to which i replied 'no its ds's bday'...she asked....'and he's 4?' i said 'no....he'll be 3' she hangs up!!

when ds arrived FIL travelled from his panto work down south to see him the night he was born (8hr round trip to see him - didn't want to hold him for fear of dropping him!!??)....then dd was born and it was as if ds had never even existed!! poor little soul!- good job they've moved an hours drive away, only have to brave em once every few months!!
