A gorgeous pair of leather gloves, a couple of crochet books that I wanted and some lovely Clarins bit and pieces, she always buys me lovely gifts - bless !!!

1dilemma · 28/12/2007 01:32

Nowt
As did the dcs
She can't even bring herself to send them birthday cards
She can't get over the fact that I'm married to her son
'Tis very sad but her loss
(would annoy me slightly less if she didn't buy stuff for her other gcs)
I love some of these stories about the mug with the chocs missing from the box etc
And am very about some of the amounts spent, maybe should ask what you got your MIL in return though might put it into context.

A bottle of very expensive moisturizer i couldn't buy myself, a delicious perfumed lotion, and a Starbucks giftcard. Dh got a blanket (he's always cold) and a PS3 game. Dd got roller skates, a computer game, a Hannah Montana cd, a stuffed pony and a shedload of candy. We were all very pleased. All us kids (7 of us) pooled and got mil and fil a bunch of restaurant gift cards which were well recieved.

Lapsedrunner · 28/12/2007 08:00

Can't fault mine, a lovely plain cahsmere jumper from Autograph/M&S

bonkerzaboutxmas · 28/12/2007 08:09

MIL got me my first set of false nails. I asked for them but now wish i hadnt cos they really dont suit my lifestyle!!! Now i feel like i have to go for maintenance on them and pay over £20 for that when all i really want to do is get them taken off! MIL is great BTW and always asks what i want!

yogimum · 28/12/2007 08:49

my mil is great too. She bought me nice underwear, (right size too, sometimes does my laundry) clarins products. And she gave dh and I combined pressie of £200.

glaskham · 28/12/2007 09:55

well in return for what my MIL got us (which was an awful lot of money) i got her an organic top from next that cost £1 in the sale!! and got step-FIL a star wars collectable mug which he said is already on display....she told us just to send a card and she'd be happy, but after what she'd given us we couldn't get her nothing....damn car and its MOT!! if we'd not had to pay for that we'd have spoilt everyone aswell as ourselves! (like we normally do...so they all understand we're having money problems this year)....i spent £1 each on my sisters and mum in the next sale, and £2 on my dad on a book....good job we dont have a massive family to buy for!!

Hulababy · 28/12/2007 09:59

My PILs got me PJs, Nigella Express book, perfume, and a couple of other bits

dillinger · 28/12/2007 10:07

Benefit makeup, a watch, couple of tops, socks, massive box of thorntons (altho right now Im sick of the sight of chocolate lol) toiletries and a Lush gift box.

rainbowbadger · 28/12/2007 10:59

Jo Malone perfume and matching bath oil - splendid!

Swedes2Turnips1 · 28/12/2007 13:02

You can only compare presents in context. I am pleased with my amarylis from my mil who is very kind and supportive to us throughout the year. Others who have mils are a pain in the neck and not a bit helpful might find their Jo Malone £250 hamper a bit of an insult - 'I don't even like Amber and Lavender, she should know Lime and Basil is my favourite.'

I have to admit to being a tensy bit jealous of the Jo Malone perfume and matching oil - is it Lime and Basil?

iliketojinglethembells · 28/12/2007 14:21

I got...

comfyish (dont really fit around my (.)(.) being 8 weeks pg) grandad style pj's

some mint chocolate

and a nighty and matching dressing gown that would put pat butcher to shame

its all good though

Pickie · 28/12/2007 16:26

I got some lovely dessert wine (Sauternes) from Fortnum and Mason plus £50.

well pleased!

NAB3wishesfor2008 · 28/12/2007 16:27

A cook book, £50 and a mini table top hoover in the shape of a pig which is quite cute.

yogimum · 28/12/2007 16:34

I'm a bit envious of the jo malone pressie aswell. will drop major hints for next year.

funnypeCOOLYULEiar · 28/12/2007 16:36

Wonderful digital photo frame ... the worlds foulest purple & brown flecked gloves!

WestCountryLass · 28/12/2007 21:13

My MIL died a few years ago but FIL gave us a cheque, we not seeing him til NYD and he has got the kids a pressie as well

My Mum, on the other hand, gave me a hideous top. It is shiney fuschia pink, ruched across the boobs and then looseish in a not quite a tunic style - given that i've got big shoulders and boobs it is horrid!!!

pollywollybauble · 28/12/2007 21:47

a nightie, which was ok until she said that she had bought herself the same one!

oh and nice choccies and a book..

katwith3wisemen · 28/12/2007 21:54

A bottle of sherry

Ah well, at least its better than last year when I got a hideous (MN header blue)nylon dressing gown, with big round collars and three large buttons down the front. When I took it back to M&S (yeah.... I know) the assistant and I ROFL when we found it had been reduced to a fiver.

I exchanged it for a lacey thong

lovecamping · 28/12/2007 22:01

lots of little things i did not ask for (she insists on lists and nagged us at the end of october) - aromatherapy stuff which i dont use, bath spa set which i cant stand the smell, both by an author i dont read and generally stuff which i wont use or even like.

only good things were a Nigella book and debenhams vouchers.

moljam · 28/12/2007 22:03

a plastic braclet.but the note with it was so lovely-thanking me for helping her and being there for her this year!

JacanneAbox · 28/12/2007 22:05

A years subscription to Junior (which was what I wanted)

KathH · 28/12/2007 22:42

mil came to stay the weekend before Christmas. She went away with pressies from DH & me & the kids. She left us with erm let me see now, nothing.

hotchocscot · 28/12/2007 22:44

naturalblonde, am very that MIL didn't get you guys anything when you paid for her flights to have xmas with you!!! is she strapped for cash or just incredibly mean??? can't believe she couldn't even get you a little thing for appreciation!

1dilemma · 29/12/2007 00:56

As I said Swedes if the 200 pound present MIL were also given similar amount of stuff then...., if they were given nothing then!!!!!!
