50 euros
Various chocs
A sadly rather ugly mug

Lauriefairycake · 26/12/2007 23:04

A mug that came in a gift set - I thought the box looked rather big so I looked it up on boots.com to find she had removed all the chocolates and marshmallows - clearly she didn't want the mug.

She's not really my mother in law - just married to my husbands dad (3rd wife) and is ten years younger than me

Scramble · 26/12/2007 23:09

A duvet that I had asked for, cosy cosy and a set of oils and balsamic, but I love that kind of thing, so quite happy here .

moogmum · 27/12/2007 08:18

Got one present for both of us and then opened a book for each of us. DH got a science book on something he's really interested in. I got a book on activities to keep your children busy . Couldn't figure out why this was a present for me. Especially since we both work full time - does this mean she thinks it's just my job to entertain them at the weekends too?

lupo · 27/12/2007 08:59

Two sets of sexy underwear - very nice but she is deperate for more grandchildren....(I'am not) so there was an ulterior motive there I think

BJB21 · 27/12/2007 09:05

Clarins beauty flash balm

Toffee

5GoldenFIMBOs · 27/12/2007 09:06

£20 gift card for M & S

LoveAngelGabriel · 27/12/2007 09:09

Nothing. But then, I didn't get her anything either.

kinkiclaus · 27/12/2007 09:18

Most Christmases and birthdays for 20 years I have been given a very frumpy old lady style blouse in a size 12 - I'm only ever a size 12 in my dreams. Every time I say thank you but I will have to change it as it doesn't fit and is a bit too formal for what I usually wear. She also buys some very dubious looking jumpers for dh - the sort only your great grandad would wear. We've tried dropping very unsubtle hints what we do and don't like.

BUT this year out of the blue she asked if it would be ok to give me the money so I could choose something myself for my birthday and christmas. Oh I was so grateful. She gave me £40 and I was able to get a whole new outfit, including some matching jewellry. She was so impressed that I was able to make the money go a long way she said she might do that again. Meanwhile dh got another polyester patterned button-up jumper.

yurt1 · 27/12/2007 09:23

size 12 long jeans. I'm size 16 short legged. Wishful thinking on her part I suspect.

GoodGollyMissMolly · 27/12/2007 09:23

P.J's, smellies, foot spa, some make-up that I wanted and some deodrant.

ALomonderfulLife · 27/12/2007 09:25

I got an electric toothbrush which she told me she got half price from Boots!

At least this time it is something I will use, last year it was calorie counting skipping ropes Do you think she was trying to tell me something?

TheMNPeacekeepingForce · 27/12/2007 09:40

Lupo - would find it totally disconcerting if MIL bought me sexy undies!

And Yurt - think it's probably better that she bought too small than the other way round! What if she'd bought you a size 20 and extra short leg when you are a 16 ....

yurt1 · 27/12/2007 09:44

oh my mil would never be seen dead buying size 20. When my sil reached a size 14 after heading off to university she refused to buy her any more clothes until she had lost weight

IdrisYouaMerryChristmas · 27/12/2007 09:51

I got a book about numbers (I am happy with this) and a novelty key ring. DH got a quiz game and some other small thing. DH's family doesn't really do big presents, as far as I have noticed.

GrumpYULEhorsewoman · 27/12/2007 10:13

Some of you have had some fab pressies.

This year, MIL bought me a pair of Primark slipper socks (probably because she noticed I have a pair of slipper socks, and these new ones are for the days when I can't find the ones I already have) and a book on Dreams . She's very into all that hokum.

The DDs got pyjamas (like every other year). The labels state, in BIG RED LETTERS "Keep away from fire", but I suspect they may ignite should they be worn near a window in the sunshine, or close to a radiator - don't think it would need to be a naked flame...

Oh well, got fab pressies from my side of the family. MIL is actually a lovely woman, just totally clueless (and pretty cheap) when it comes to presents.

twinklylights · 27/12/2007 11:22

Very lucky this year-£100 and a box of goodies from The White Company!

OrmIrian · 27/12/2007 11:34

Hmm.....I'd run out of casserole dishes so she gave me some of her parents' old ones. I did say it was OK and they are fine but I sort of hoped she might make a bit more of an effort as well.

allIWannaBeForChristmas · 27/12/2007 11:55

now I just need to find the right kind of gingerbread recipe to put in it .

cece · 27/12/2007 11:55

My lovely MIL gave me and DH the money to buy a dishwasher.

I love it, it is the first one I have ever owned and I am unsure of how I coped before.

She also gave me money to have my hair cut and coloured

Did I mention she is lovely.

crazycanuck · 27/12/2007 13:36

14 bottles of wine!!!! she's a lady after my own heart... Actually it was joint for dh and I, I'm not THAT much of a lush!

ELF1981 · 27/12/2007 13:59

From my MIL and step FIL I got some Flowers by Kenzo perfume and a scarf and glove set.
From my FIL and step MIL I got a lovely jumper from DP and some gorgeous bath stuff.
V happy.

My parents got for my DH two shirts, underwear, socks, Prison break series 1 on DVD and a huge bottle of Bailies.

Rosa · 27/12/2007 14:59

Nothing she said she was only buying presents for the children ...She did contribute to Dh present ( with SIL) . We will see if anything turns up when I get back .... Seeing as we spent a fortune on her !!!
