I have to buy a gift for my odious mother. For many complex reasons I can’t not but I want to put as little thought and effort in as possible.

What have you bought for people you hate? I need ideas!

@TheCreamCaker

I would never buy something for a person I hate
Thank you voice of reason! Same

Buying her tat or stuff you know she will hate is just adding to landfill so why do it. Speak to her and say you aren't doing presents this year so she doesn't have to buy for you either. Reciprocal present giving is just a waste of time and money unless you are putting some thought into it.

2kgs of sugar-free gummy bears. (Read the review/ on Amazon. Absolutely worth the laugh.)

evtheria · 03/12/2021 11:12

@SquarePeggyLeggy

Gift to charity on their behalf. I do this every year for my terrible father. It’s win-win. I’ve done my polite duty, it goes to a charity, and nobody can be mad about that.
I think this would be the best.
Justilou1 · 03/12/2021 11:15

I thought I’d find the gummy bears review

Here’s one of the threads @MamaWeasel

If she so badly screwed up your life how about a donation to an appropriate children’s charity. NSPCC maybe?

You’d be making a point and using the money for some good not throwing it away on granny knickers, torn books or incomplete jigsaws.

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 04/12/2021 10:44

We did a charity gift for a member of the family some years ago.
The recipient was not best pleased and said "If you want to give to charity fine, but don't do it with my f***g present!"
We no longer exchange gifts Confused

CrimbleCrumble1 · 04/12/2021 13:12

Ihopeyourcakeisshit I do agree with your family member (without the swearing).

salcombebabe · 04/12/2021 13:32

You need to be careful she doesn’t recycle your gift back to you next Christmas 🤣🤣

reasysteady · 04/12/2021 15:45

But something from the Christmas gift (new) section from the Oxfam shop.

At least you've helped the charity out.

I've had a few of the shit presents on here from my exh family Grin we did all hate each other, another lovely reminder of the positives of my divorce!

Iputthetrampintrampoline · 05/12/2021 18:01

A star named after them or a lord .ladyship title...total tat and no use to anyone!

MondayYogurt · 05/12/2021 18:04

@CrimbleCrumble1

Gift experiences, always a pain to use.
And those companies rely on people not taking them up before they expire, pure profit.
