I have to buy a gift for my odious mother. For many complex reasons I can’t not but I want to put as little thought and effort in as possible.

What have you bought for people you hate? I need ideas!

A Bayliss & Harding gift set with a poorly removed sale sticker sounds utterly perfect.

MidSummersNightmare · 01/12/2021 22:30

Buy them a toilet in another country. You can give them a framed certificate to show for it.

A Yankee candle and some Turkish delight

Once was given a horrendous studded purse by a relative who was not happy with me! Passive aggressive present giving is hilarious 😆

Shewholovedthethebanhills · 01/12/2021 22:32

@SylviaTrench wins.

A book you know they won’t want to read. Second-hand, preferably with a particularly cracked spine. Just in case they read it, remove the last page.

Charity goat.

nildesparandum · 01/12/2021 22:37

My MIL once gave me a multi packet of soap for Christmas, with one soap removed and still wrapped in the torn paper covering.

StarlightStarlight · 01/12/2021 22:38

Something off brand from Poundland. Like their own brand Lindt chocolate or a toiletry gift set that doesn’t even have a name it just says ‘body wash’

Pick up a gift from the unwanted gift section in a charity shop

Blackmagicqueen · 01/12/2021 22:38

@Poppins17 @AD3000 me too, I’ve actually asked dh for the Baylis & Harding light up glass decanter bubble bath for Christmas, it was a toss up between that and the Christmas wreath set but I liked the bottle best and how it is reusable and will look nice on the shelf! I’ve used up the bauble shaped ones from last year that smelt lovely! 🤫☺️

A knitted mug warmer

IDontDrinkTea · 01/12/2021 22:40

How about buying one of those charity gifts? Here you can literally send a toilet. Means that it’s not a waste of money and someone gets some benefit

Scented drawer liners

WithANameLikeDaniCalifornia · 01/12/2021 22:40

You can buy dung as a charity present for poor farmers. You could say in the gift card, “saw this and thought of you xx” about literal shit.

MrsSkylerWhite · 01/12/2021 22:40

LIDL is selling Christmas jumpers decorated with the LIDL logo.

NigellaSeed · 01/12/2021 22:42

Experience days, tick. Crap craft gifts, tick. Toiletries you can buy at a supermarket, tick. I thought my DPs mum was not the best at presents but it turns out..she hates me :0

Blackmagicqueen · 01/12/2021 22:42

@MrsSkylerWhite 😂 now that has to be the best one

WithANameLikeDaniCalifornia · 01/12/2021 22:42

Or a toilet like a pp just suggested above. That too will send the message you think she’s a piece of shit.

DevonsFinest · 01/12/2021 22:46

I've just got my sons girlfriend a hot water bottle, it's what my son suggested she'd like (she is pretty cold) and this one's quite fitting it's made to look like a dog.

Blackmagicqueen · 01/12/2021 22:47

@WithANameLikeDaniCalifornia maybe the toilet certificate in the Xmas card and the lidl logo Christmas jumper aswell ‘just to have something to open.’ 😏

Shitandhills · 01/12/2021 22:56

Talcum powder. Utterly useless product.

Shitandhills · 01/12/2021 22:57

Or pot pourri.

SimpsonsXmasBoogie · 01/12/2021 22:58

Charity donation in her name. You're doing something nice and it won't benefit her at all.

SimpsonsXmasBoogie · 01/12/2021 22:59

I've seen a few suggestions on here of things I have actually bought for people in the past... Oops Blush

IWasHotInTheNineties · 01/12/2021 23:01

I bought someone I don’t like a white outfit for their child . . . and some playdoh.

NovemberNovemberDarkNights · 01/12/2021 23:02

One way ticket somewhere! Further away the better!
