I have to buy a gift for my odious mother. For many complex reasons I can’t not but I want to put as little thought and effort in as possible.

What have you bought for people you hate? I need ideas!

I love the suggestions. However I’m not necessarily looking for a spiteful gift just one that requires zero thought. For example last year I got her a flower bouquet subscription so she got a bunch of flowers monthly. I did it online and it took 5 minutes, job done. No thought required.

@Blaaaaaaaaah I do it because I am a nice person and wouldn’t want to purposely make anyone feel bad. It’s don’t without any emotion or thought. Kind of like a trip to the post office Its for me not for her.

Maybe I should frame the invoices from my therapist as a nice “look what you did to me” collage!

What about a magazine subscription? Or a traybake that arrived each month?

Nothing says "I don't give a fuck" quite like a £4 tub of Quality Street.
If you hate them badly enough replace the chocolates with a dog poo (this will be indistinguishable from the chocolates).

@KloppsTeeth I was thinking about a magazine subscription but the flower one put me off. Without fail every month I’d get 10 photos of the bouquet with a fawning message about how thoughtful I was and how happy they made her

Major fail on my part. It made me feel deeply uncomfortable.

Easy stuff like gift bath sets, Christmas socks/scarfs, gift cards, books, digital photo frames, chocolates etc. Calendars are my go-to, here is a tutorial on making one in Photoshop, you pay for the printing only and it comes off really cheap, too.
Gift to charity also sounds awesome, they can be salty about that all they want but they can't get visibly mad at you lol.

Hm. National trust membership for a year? Afternoon tea or a spa day voucher for somewhere posh?

A food basket involved thought and looks like you've gone to a lot of effort OP.
You need something like a basic foot spa ( that will get used maybe once) or how about a vase ( pity she hasn't a flower subscription this year).

What about big ugly knickers or cheap pjs that are approximately 2-3 sizes too big 🤣 my lovely grandmother used to to this to me every Xmas, she told me I had a fat arse.. and liked to demonstrate this by buying me size 18 pjs at Xmas when I was honestly a size 10 and about 15 years old
