Gifts for people you hate

I have to buy a gift for my odious mother. For many complex reasons I can’t not but I want to put as little thought and effort in as possible.

What have you bought for people you hate? I need ideas!

nose hair trimmer (my uncle once bought one for my mum - she wasn't impressed)

1forAll74 · 02/12/2021 17:00

I don't hate anybody,, but if I did, I wouldn't buy them anything at all. What is the point of treating anyone so unlikeable, just because you might feel a bit bad, about not doing so.

kwiksavenofrillsusername · 02/12/2021 17:15

@allfurcoatnoknickers

Not relevant in your situation, but I loathe my FIL and current step-MIL. She's a lot younger and they have a toddler, so I bought the toddler an elaborate Play-doh slime kit Grin.

Toddler delighted, step-MIL clearly furious but had to be nice about it.

I don't get on with my mother either, so I just throw money at something expensive and easy. She'll send my dad to tell me off if I don't get her enough stuff every year Angry.

That kinetic sand stuff is also perfect if you like the kid but hate the parent. Or anything with glitter.

Or a recorder. But that’s too evil even for me.

An apron and oven glove set.

Mummyoflittledragon · 02/12/2021 18:37

I see you’ve decided on something and you don’t want to be spiteful. However, having read the thread, I love the dung idea so much that I looked it up and spotted on eBay that you can buy Rabbit or Alpaca droppings. Not the idea of your thread. But I’m thinking about getting a pack for my cousin’s husband as a joke. Whenever we meet up for Christmas, I ensure he gets something silly. I get you not wanting to put much effort in having a tricky relationship with my mother. I hope it hits the spot this year.

Animal sponsorship for an animal she hates - e.g. donkey sanctuary, dogs' home etc

RuggerHug · 02/12/2021 19:36

@buntybanana

For my nasty, racist & Brexit voting grandparents I donated £20 to a refugee charity in their name and it sent them a card with "Some people never stop changing the world" on the front.
buntybanana Genius!
ThreeWiseBuddhas · 02/12/2021 20:01

Fart in a jam jar?

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 02/12/2021 20:28

A gift experience bungee jump - my worst nightmare present! A bit expensive though.

catmothertes1 · 02/12/2021 20:45

@Poppins17

I love a Baylis and Harding gift set!!! Wondering what they says about me Grin
Me too!
MakkaPakkas · 02/12/2021 20:46

I mean, if you don't like her just get something vaguely present like on your next supermarket shop and give it no further thought.

Kippersfortea · 02/12/2021 20:53

I shouldn't have read this thread. Turns out pretty much everyone I know hates me and pretty much everyone I buy for thinks I hate them Shock

ShakespeareInTurmoil · 02/12/2021 22:07

Scented draw liners. That was a new low for me.

ShakespeareInTurmoil · 02/12/2021 22:08

*drawer

BoredZelda · 02/12/2021 22:25

I don’t buy gifts for people I hate.

AliceA2021 · 02/12/2021 22:43

How to be nice book.
Tips to make you more popular.
Deodorant.
A animal adoption gives to an animal charity and she gets the voucher to say she has donated.

notangelinajolie · 02/12/2021 22:45

Bayliss and Harding is the ultimate put down gift.

HeckinMiffed · 02/12/2021 22:49

@SylviaTrench

If you’re giving a jigsaw remember to open the box first and remove a piece Wink
this is genius Grin DH's ex and DSC's mum-this year I have excelled myself with a tesco mini bottle of wine and glass setthat I won in a raffle. Her boyfriend a bottle ob Becks and glass filled with quality street from same raffle. job done! and its appropriate!

just got to scrape the thank you label off now

HeckinMiffed · 02/12/2021 23:14

then there was the year we bought her a posh wine glass which was used instantly.
always always wash new glasses

Dogmummy1980 · 02/12/2021 23:35

Make a luxury hamper - loads of things they would have loved! Say you are doing charitable donations for gifts this year. Then take a photo, send it to them and say it’s for the food bank

A bit like a modern day Bullseye what you could have won!

MsFogi · 02/12/2021 23:37

Bayliss and Harding smelly stuff, Yankee candle or Pandora stuff.

Timeisavirtue · 03/12/2021 00:28

Well generally don’t buy for people I don’t like, however it’s usually chocolates or candles, simple and cheap if of course I’m put in a position where I have to buy for someone I don’t like.

Hairyfriend · 03/12/2021 00:32

SIL bought DH a 'Top Gun' DVD 2 yrs ago for Christmas. It had a £1 reduced sticker on the back!
We don't have a DVD player either!

Justilou1 · 03/12/2021 01:36

Does she like to garden? You could get a truckload of fertilizer delivered. If she has a taste for the exotic, here in Australia you can order Zoo Poo. Specific animal poo straight from the zoo. (Sea Lion turds are especially fragrant thanks to their diet of fish. Just saying.) Lion & other big cat wee is supposed to help deter dogs and cats from coming into your garden. (Probably stinks as much or more, if you ask me…)
