The John Lewis Christmas ad has destroyed me. The tears were pouring down my face. Oh God. I don't know whether to be embarrassed or watch it again so I can have another cry....

Edit from MNHQ: Sorry for butting in squiggleirl - but we're just going to add a link to to the video here so everyone can sob uncontrollably enjoy it . Apologies for the intrusion!

It was seriously good marketing on behalf of J Lewis because they are going make you buy 2 overpriced cuddly penguins instead of one. Unless they are on a BOGOF.

McGlashan · 06/11/2014 10:14

Maybe they had over ordered on the penguin front and had to think of a way to shift them in larger quantities.

At £95 it's a bargain

Yes. Lovely. But then I cried at Octonauts this morning so I have form for this! I loved that it was an imaginary penguin

I've checked out the merchandise for thse penguins and the cheapest one was 12 qiud but you can't just buy one because he'll be all lonely aww. So £24 for two penguins? No chance.

I just watched it wondering what all the fuss was about, then I got to the end sobs

Weeping all over my desk. It is like being in the mind of my lovely middle son, who is away from home for the first time tonight.

I think it's their best one yet. My 1 yo's favourite toy is his jellycat penguin so especially sweet!

I am a bit pissed off with John Lewis customer services at the moment though. Service there isn't as great as it used to be, which makes me sad as I'm not one for being brand loyal but I was with John Lewis, to some extent at least. Get it sorted John Lewis. If you can do good Christmas adverts you can do good service too please!

Was feeling very unmoved... Until the very end

OMG the cunning bastards!

All the way through you're thinking yeah yeah John Lewis, it's all getting a bit stupid now. No I'm not actually moved by this, it's actually ridiculous.

Then the last 2 seconds get you!

My son is just like this with his Jellycat monkey - I full on sobbed! Two hours until I can get him from pre-school and cry all over him!

Agree about the service. Used to be amazing, now it's extremely patchy. I want to keep on loving John Lewis, it's my favourite shop to go to when I have a rare day off, please keep it special JL!

Nope.

Not feeling it this year. I think even last years was better.

But it's going to have to be something special, sometime in the future, to do anything that even comes close to the Snowman & his Snowmrs.

Maybe I'm made of stone... I didn't cry.

And I've cried at all the other years!

Love it! They have redeemed themselves from last year 'let the poor bear sleep goddamnit!!' In hindsight I was probably feeling over-protective of the bear at 8 months pregnant and felt everyone should be getting the sleep they deserve. Anyway, Penguins. Winner.

PENGUIN!

I managed to resist crying, but only because this advert has come about 10 years too late for my family. My penguin loving son is now nearly 17 and, although he still has all his cuddly penguins, I don't think he will be clamouring for a new one on the strength of this ad Grin I might buy one anyway

I feel sorry for all you parents of younger penguin lovers though. Your Christmas present list just got a little bit longer! Grin

I wasn't expecting to cry, but a few tears leaked it when it showed the mum watching her little boy/the reveal.

They really are buggers, aren't they? I just thought it was rather nice until right at the end, which made me weep. And now I could cry again for being such an easily manipulated sap!

He's basically just buying his imaginary friend a penguin hooker.

Not as weepy as the hare and the bear for me, but cute.
