The John Lewis Christmas ad has destroyed me. The tears were pouring down my face. Oh God. I don't know whether to be embarrassed or watch it again so I can have another cry....

Edit from MNHQ: Sorry for butting in squiggleirl - but we're just going to add a link to to the video here so everyone can sob uncontrollably enjoy it . Apologies for the intrusion!

I think at 4/5 they still do play with their cuddly toys a lot and think of them as real. 9yo DS doesn't but he still loves having them to hug in bed.

I think he's about 7 and the sheepish grin is because he knows he's a bit old for playing with penguins.

He's so cute

The actor is age 8 - there was an article with his mum in the papers yesterday :)

I used never cry at such things. But I welled up at JL, had a little fairy dust in my eye at M&S, but almost blubbed properly at the Boots ad and the nurse mum getting home. I think Boots - while still commercial - has done a better job of getting the sentiment right the past couple of year (the "thug" boy last year was lovely too).

I cry at anything, so have blubbered away at both JL and Boot's ad. I particularly liked the Boot's one, actually. Obviously the nurse would have been tired when she got home, but also a bit sad thinking she was coming back to an empty house. What I think happens next is that they make her a hot drink or they all share a bottle or whatever she wants to do and then she goes off to sleep and the rest of them take over making Christmas dinner to have when she's awake again, later on Boxing Day.

Thanks a lot, BOF, for that It's A Wonderful Life clip. I don't know how many times I've seen that film but it never fails to reduce me to a soggy mess. Best Christmas film ever made.

I saw the Sainsburys offering this morning.

I love it. More than the penguins and the tired mum coming off shift. I love it mostly because the chocolate bar featured is going to be a real thing with all profits going to RBL.

oh my god, I am bawling crying after watching that BlueKarou, my grandad was in the trenches in 1914 and obviously I have been thinking about him a lot this week. JL only made me sniff slightly!

Sainsbo's one very moving, actually.

I shall buy a bar of that chocolate for each of my children if the profits are going to the British Legion (and all the other children I know, too).

Well done, Sainsbury's.

Just saw the Sainsbury's ad twice tonight but watched it properly the second time after seeing your comments. I will also be buying the chocolate as it is such a great ad and perfect.

M&S's ad is crap.

Haven't seen JL's yet.

Iceland's is the same as always.

Aldi's was boring. Or was it Lidl's.
