i rang yesterday they received mine on 30/5 and said it’s not been looked at yet it’ll be end up September/beginning October xx

Caz2113 · 02/09/2023 19:42

How long is the wait for the letter confirming it has been granted. I was told a week ago that letter was being sent out that same day Friday 25th. No letter yet.

Beebee28 · 02/09/2023 19:53

I’m 15 weeks I rang on Friday and got told it’s about 18 weeks

Jemz38 · 02/09/2023 22:56

My scan date was the 25/5. I received a letter stating that it would be a 15 week wait around the the middle of June. As I'm coming up to 15 weeks, i rung dla the other day to be told that its a 27 week wait from scan date!! She said that would take me to 3/12!!... I questioned this and was told that she had received confirmation that morning that its a 27 week wait. I'm super confused now, as other people are being told something completely different.

Is this a new claim or renewal or change of circumstances

Jemz38 · 03/09/2023 10:05

New claim.

Gem013 · 03/09/2023 10:33

Hi everyone. It is my first time posting on here. My scan date is 16/06 so i've still a while to wait yet but i'm not very hopeful i will he awarded. My son is 4 and starts school tomorrow! 😬 He is on the asd pathway. He has speech and language reports, occupational therapist reports and ISP's from school/nursery, we are just waiting for a pediatician to give an actual diagnosis. He also falls alot and is very clumsy and has absolutely no sense of danger. We are constantly in and out of a&e with him. He managed to break his femur last year so ive sent the discharge letter in from that too. I was just wondering if anyone is in a similar position to us and of they have been awarded? His OT keeps requesting we buy things for him so this is why we initially put the claim in.
Thankyou and good luck mammas x

I’m not sure if I’ve made a mistake and I’m worried now. I phoned on Friday asking if I still had time to send evidence in for my daughters renewal. I was too late, she has been awarded HRC and LRM. Care stayed the same from last time but as she was under five when I applied before so no mobility.

Ive sent in further evidence asking them to look at the mobility again and I’m worried I may have somehow messed it up.
It’s not the extra money, it’s the blue badge. My daughter ran into the road at a car park not long ago and narrowly missed being hit by a car. He managed to break as he was going slowly due to it being a car park, not before shouting a load of abuse at me though. I was holding her hand tightly opening the door to put her in. It’s really scared me.

I sent in the review of her statement. It talks about how her 1-1 staff are scared of other children tapping them for attention as they can’t take their eyes off dd for a second as she could harm herself in that second. How she has full time supervision and support. How she bites other children. She has bitten her support teacher. She wonders off and can be found roaming other parts of the school. Chews electrical cables, has pica and puts everything in her mouth. How she can’t walk to an activity that the other children in her class will be walking too as she will not do it and doesn’t have the understanding to do it safely. Needs reins, refusal to walk causing screaming etc.

I hope it’s enough but I’m not sure it will be.

I have a blue badge for HRC and LRM I contacted my local authority and did the online application and submitted his EHCP showing that he will dash in roads ect and I was given one. Best thing I ever did as it allows us to park closer to shops rather than wandering through car park.

Mydogisamentalist · 03/09/2023 11:44

@ChrissyMac1 I will contact my local authority tomorrow and hope it’s the same process here. When I looked online it said that you need to be in receipt of higher rate mobility. I really hope that’s maybe not the case and it won’t be such a difficult fight for it!

zoeybrooks45 · 03/09/2023 11:58

has anyone had any experience with applying for ECHP to be in place before child starts mainstream school and what evidence to provide? As my son needs are changing every few months I don’t know if it’s worth applying now. I was optimistic at first but it seems as though he will need a lot of support when starting school. He already has an ISP in place at nursery.

Piony · 03/09/2023 12:14

@zoeybrooks45 there is meant to be a very low bar to requesting an EHCNA. Ipsea model letter here https://www.ipsea.org.uk/making-a-request-for-an-ehc-needs-assessment . LAs may get you to fill a form in instead. We did the letter which let them know we understood the law around it, and pasted it into the boxes on the form!

I would recommend putting down as much reasoning and examples as you can, even if you don't have independent evidence for it, to discourage the LA from arguing the request doesn't meet the threshold. (You can appeal if they do, but putting more down is more likely to help than to hinder.)

It is normal not to have much independent evidence at this stage. The process is quite drawn out and EHCP school places are decided quite early on, so if he is starting sept24 I would think now is a good time. It wouldn't stop you applying again later, if you don't get it.

EHCP provisions fall under the categories Communication and Interaction, Cognition and Learning, Social, Emotional and Mental Health & Sensory and Physical. You don't need to frame it along those lines, but we found it extremely helpful to do so. I also think it helps convince the decision maker that there are enough ticks on the sheet, kind of thing.

@zoeybrooks45 I should say we actually did it after starting school, but I think either way you can get the ball rolling yourself.

Do you have portage involvement? My son is also starting school next year and when we had our first portage meeting 6 months ago they said to wait until September (now) to see about applying for an EHCP. Our next meeting is in 2 weeks so going to push to apply for it. Like others say we could always apply again or appeal if unsuccessful.
As my son is august born we are thinking about defering him by a year, but won’t if he has EHCP x

Hi,

My little boy starts school Sept '24, he has an ehcp. You can start this process yourself. Get in touch with your LA sen team they have been great support for me, with any questions etc. I hope that they are as helpful for you as mine were for me. I was lucky my little one's ehcp was started via professionals, but you dont need them to start the process.

They are reviewed regularly as well (forgot to say) there is a section for you to complete. The sections as previously stated my another user. Here you get to have your voice heard. Every concern, every need, things that are positive, your little ones interests, their dislikes/likes. What they can do aswell as what they need support with. This part is really important- it's your voice as their parent. I was told to be very thorough about this part. I rang my la sen team as i wanted to ensure i was kept up to date with the process of applying for special provision as they are secured earlier than mainstream deadline of january. I was told his ehcp is to be reviewed this month and they are going to be requested from SEN team to start the process. I hope this helps. Evidence wise, professionals were linked to the EHCP and they completed it electronically onto the system. Good luck

Thank you, very helpful information

zoeybrooks45 · 03/09/2023 14:05

I’ve actually never heard of portage, just googled it. I will look into this, yes hopefully I want in place for son starting school sep2024

zoeybrooks45 · 03/09/2023 14:09

the LA has a form to complete for parents but it is based on child being older. Thank you for the advice, I will start the process and start gathering evidence.
