Come and take my mind off it!

Suggest something indulgent we can do to distract ourselves.

BellasYummyMummy · 09/03/2010 17:56

ooh joanne good luck with the sweep tomorrow, i am also going to see the mw to be offered one and am a bit apprehensive!!! i will be 40+4.

FourLittleDucks · 10/03/2010 06:57

Morning Ladies......!

Who have we got on here at the moment ?

BellasYummyMummy
PAcificDogwood
MadForMaincoons
Joanne34
Bilders

Anyone else lurking ????

I'm now 40+4 with DD4 - totally never expected to be late, but feeling fine. Woke with a painful BH at 6am this morning and got myself all excited, but then nothing !!

Seeing midwife today, maybe sweep, not sure.

How are the rest of you all doing this morning ? fed up ?

BellasYummyMummy · 10/03/2010 07:41

hi fourlittleducks, snap i am also 40+4 today and off for a sweep at 1130 this morning. nice. i am stillfeeling utter pants and cant shift this cold at all. My DD is away and my DH has been sleeping downstairs for the last 2 nights yet I am still getting very little sleep at nighttime. Heartburn last night, snotty nose, cough, and the fear of childbirth all kept me wide awake in the wee hours of the morning.

growingweeble · 10/03/2010 08:24

May I join too? Was due yesterday and am feeling really glum today.

I should find myself something to do as otherwise I'll just sit on the sofa feeling sorry for myself.

Any inspirational ideas?

FourLittleDucks · 10/03/2010 09:30

Hi Bella's and Growingweeble....
YEs, am totally rootless, not really sure what to do with myself...can't even be bothered to go for a brisk walk !
Let us know how the sweep gets on Bella's !

Isn't it funny.
I was 12 days late with DD1 (other 2 were early and on EDD) - its such a random time !

Right....let's enjoy today - who knows what will happen later on.

Don't know about you, but part of me would love a 10.3.10 birthdate !!!

Love to all

BellasYummyMummy · 10/03/2010 10:36

lol four, i didnt even think of that date. Yeah is pretty cool!
I was 5 days late with DD1, it is all rather random. I've never had a sweep before so am a bit apprehensive. I also feel i should go for a long walk, but cant be bothered (especially as there's no sunshine today!)

Dont feel glum growingweeble, baby will come when ready!

blonde36er · 10/03/2010 10:56

I'm a-here...40+13 today. Had a good cry this morning as am going in for induction tomorrow at 10am, and therefore it's highly likely that homebirth is out of the window - unless a miracle occurs today, or I get to the hospital tomorrow to be told I'm 3cm...in which case we're getting straight back in the car and coming home!

growingweeble · 10/03/2010 11:39

Really good luck blonde36er... fingers crossed for a last minute arrival before tomorrow. You read on here of lot of babies who arrive just in advance of induction so I really hope that happens for you too.

For those of you looking for something to cheer you up or get you going, I've just been to aqua aerobics which was fab. Thoroughly recommend it for cheering you up... apart from the getting in a swimsuit bit and then having to walk along the side of the pool with everyone staring at you. I don't really do the aerobics, just bob about and it's so nice to be weightless in the water and bob about to music.

That's really cheered me up and it looks like it could be a nice day. I booked a pedicure for later which is a stupid waste of money, but nice toe nails have a weird effect on me. Facials, haircuts, massages all irritate me as they feel like a waste of money... but pedicures which no one ever sees for some reason don't. Totally illogical, but hey, I'm pregnant.

If I've got the energy I'll make some cookies or muffins later and eat them all.

Good luck with the sweep Bella's. Let us know how it goes.

BellasYummyMummy · 10/03/2010 13:06

well i feel utter crap. I went to see the mw for my sweep, first she asked how i was, and i said i was really anxious about having the baby etc, and she was asking why. Then she asked how my previous birth was and i told her it wasnt that bad (epi with ventouse) but that i was just scared. She didnt say anything. So that felt awkward. Then she was saying how in her clinic she doesnt offer sweeps until you're at least a week overdue, and was telling me how uncomfortable it was, the risk to the baby etc, and just making me feel like she really didnt want to do it. So she said she would have a feel of my tummy and see how low the baby was. Then asked me if i thought it was engaged- i was like i dont know!? she said it was probably low enough for her to do a sweep, so did i want one? By that point i was like no thanks. I left nearly in tears as i had psyched myself up for it, then had a cry in the car. I just wanted someone to be supportive and reassuring and just friendly but she wasnt at all. Am booked in for friday for a sweep, hopefully with someone else.

FourLittleDucks · 10/03/2010 14:52

MN doesn't seem to be working at the moment, so could only read the first line of your post Bella......will read it when it starts working again, but sorry you're feeling crap.

Just watched One Born Every Minute from last night - not sure it was a good idea !

Off to the midwife, so will check in later on with you all xxx

growingweeble · 10/03/2010 15:41

Poor you Bella's. I've been pretty surprised at how little MWs are interested in discussing the birth. I've tried to bring up birth plans with mine at each appointment for the last 3 and she's not wanted to talk about it at all... just says, keep an open mind. I know that's right, but it would be reassuring to discuss it a bit. I guess they are busy but I always feel that I'm just there for a five minute check of blood pressure and urine and you're out.

Good you've got your sweep booked now though... and only a couple of days away.

Curl up on the sofa with a duvet or something to make yourself feel better in the meantime.

I'm seeing a midwife tomorrow and am not sure whether to ask for a sweep or not. Probably they wouldn't anyway by the sound of it as I'm not a week overdue.

BellasYummyMummy · 10/03/2010 16:54

growingweeble- i feel just as you do! very much in/out. they never discuss any of the measurements they take, blood pressure/ fundal height, etc. I am always asking 'so is everything OK?'. i mentioned GBS to them with my first pregnancy and was totally blown off. I wanted to ask this time as I am worried about it but thought whats the point. Childbirth is naturally a scary time, and the only time i think it's right to feel mollycoddled. i think it was just this midwife who likes to wait a week. The one who originally booked me in for it was the one who suggested it, wish I had had her.
When i discussed my birthplan it wasnt really a discussion at all, she just ticked off all the things she was supposed to mention and that was that.

fourlittleducks- how did your appointment go? successful i hope

FourLittleDucks · 10/03/2010 19:00

That's such a shame, Bella, that you felt 'processed' - sometimes health professionals don't realise what influence they can have on us emotional women - sometimes they can seem so dismissive.

My appt was lovely, actually - even though it was a midwife I"d not met before. Perhaps its because she had a student and was trying to be extra nice ! And actually our 2nd daughter died shortly after birth so I think they are a little bit gentler with me than they might otherwise be (like they did swab me for GBS even though they're not supposed to - I do have it)

Gave me a sweep- said I was nearly 2cm dilated (which apparently is normal for not a first labour) and everything is soft and going in the right direction. Have had a few quite strong braxtons since then but nothing much else.

Blonde36er - how are you feeling before tomorrow ? any twinges ?

Growingweeble - have you got any other littlies, or is this your first ?

growingweeble · 10/03/2010 20:04

First little one for me.

Here's hoping the sweep gets things into action for you FourLittleDucks. Good luck!

ladyinka · 10/03/2010 20:21

hello there, so glad to find the thread - may I join? I am now 41 weeks with our first little one and thoroughly fed up with the wait. Having read the posts, I am feeling less bad about it though ;))

nb, was booked for a sweep today, but the MW said that my blood pressure was a bit high so refused to do it, instead sent me for zillion checks. of course it was high as I am so anxious now to get on with the labour and the stuff - the NCT classes scared the life out of me the way the whole overdue proceedings were described so now I just hear 'sweep' or 'induction' and my heart beat goes through the roof;(

blonde36er · 10/03/2010 20:38

No FourLittleDucks - still nothing, although I've still got...13 1/2 hours before induction starts and if I wake up having contractions I won't go in

Hope all is going well and quickly following your sweep - sounds more promising than mine was last week

FourLittleDucks · 10/03/2010 20:42

Nothing happening here....went for a brisk walk but all seems to have calmed down. Och well....you never know.

I don't envy you ladies having your first ! its hard enough waiting around when its your 4th and you know a little bit what to expect....

Lovely to have you with us LadyInka !

Hope you're not all too depressed - I ate quite a lot of mini creme eggs this evening and that seems to have helped !!

xxx

joanne34 · 10/03/2010 21:04

Hey ladies. Had a sweep at 1pm today. It doesn't hurt. The midwife I saw today was lovely, it's only taken 9 months ! She said my cervix was nice and soft.
Am so tired from lack of sleep, but must have sex before bed !
Am booked in for another sweep on Sunday, if nothing happens before then- what a lovely mothers day treat
!
Poor bella. I chated with the midwife and she was happy to do or to leave. I am surprised I went for it in the end, but really it was no big deal. Quick and slightly uncomfortable, that's all.
Bella speak to your community midwives and ask for a sweep if you want one. I don't know if it will work or not, but . ........... You still have time though. Maybe they will all arrive for mothers day ! That'll be nice. X

joanne34 · 11/03/2010 07:29

Well forget the sex ! What a waste of time, both times un-completed mission !
Yes I am well peeved, and f*ing tired ! Grrr !

BellasYummyMummy · 11/03/2010 07:33

good morning lovely bumps, i am still here on day 5. Still full of cold, and DH now on antibiotics for poorly ear, as is DD who is still at my mums though i think she wants to drop her off today. I actually am not minding baby being late, more time for me to get better. I feel more rested today.

fourlittles, im sorry to hear about your second daughter, I cant imagine what that is like. Sounds like the creme eggs though might have helped progress things along perhaps?!

ladyinka- congrats on your first, hopefully you wont be waiting too much longer. i was petrified after attending all the NCT classes etc so didnt this time round, of course now panicking as i;ve forgotten everything! lol.

blonde- how are you? i wonder if you will be going off for an induction.....

joanne- glad you had a positive mw experience! Maybe mothers day will be our day! glad the sweep wasnt that bad, makes me feel more at ease for tomorrow afternoon when i WILL have mine done!!

FourLittleDucks · 11/03/2010 08:46

Morning Ladies,

Ha ha to Joanne34 with the failed 'intimate inducement'!! Its so bizarre at this stage isn't it !
Hope today you start to feel better Bellas - its a horrible thought to go into labour/early weeks of babe with a cold - they really wipe it out of you.

Well...had contractions for 1.5hrs this morning and totally thought 'this is it' ! but everything stopped.
Last two labours were very quick and once they started they just went for it, so a new experience to be having a stop-start (my first was like that, but didn't expect it with this one). Had a proper show though, so wouldn't be surprised if at some point over the next 48hrs things begin to move on. (Although by the time you get to 40+5, its hardly surprising is it - its got to happen at some point over the next week !)

Yes, very hard Bellas to lose DD2 - was nothing to do with labour/birth (just to reassure 1st time mums) - we'd known she was very poorly, but still a devastating time and certainly she is not far from our minds as we look forward to welcoming DD4.

Anyway, have got the school run to do in about 5mins - my brain is all over the place this morning...

Love to you all - especially Blonde36er - really hope something happened in the night for you, otherwise hope induction is a straightforward as poss.
And hope the lovely toes are distracting you from waiting GrowingWeebles !!

xxx

BellasYummyMummy · 11/03/2010 10:02

All sounding promising fourlittles, i dont think you will be waiting much longer at all! I think I will happily wait til the weekend now for my arrival. Will have a sweep tomorrow afternoon, which will kick start things, and baby will be born on the saturday, though the sunday would be really lovely- though i will get to be home on mothers day with my two children so that will be nicer. Look at me planning it all! Better tell bump all this so he/she knows the plan! lol.

mad4mainecoons · 11/03/2010 14:48

hi all.

still here, now 41 weeks, and becoming more and more grumpy by the day! had a sweep yesterday and to agree with what others have said, its not too awful but definetly a lie back and think of a tropical beach moment!

so i then has real crampy pains and fairly regular tightenings all day but it all amounted to nothing and today i have gone back to just feeling premenstral and sore with no real action

Joanne - i must have the same dates as you if i have read the posts righ and im also booked in for a second sweep on sunday - oh the joy!.

heres hoping something happens soon. good luck to you all and especially four little ducks - sounds like something is starting

growingweeble · 11/03/2010 16:41

Saw midwife this afternoon and she suggested not doing a sweep until next Thursday, so I'd better get used to waiting around! At least it's nearly the weekend and DH will be around.

I hope things are moving along for you fourlittleducks

Good luck tomorrow Bella's!

BellasYummyMummy · 11/03/2010 17:02

hmm am now wondering if i should put off the sweep tomorrow? Not because im worried about it, but because surely baby will come when ready? I am still not feeling well, so maybe I shouldnt intervene with nature. I dont know. Was going to wait and see if i felt better tomorrow. My mum now doesnt think i should have it done. But then i dont think im going to get completely better until i have this baby as my immune system will continue to be suppressed until i have it. Been coughing my lungs out today, seem to have days when i feel im getting better then days like today when i feel im getting worse!
