Come and take my mind off it!

Suggest something indulgent we can do to distract ourselves.

Just me then?

I'll be overdue tommorow. I'll join you then?

TheOldestCat · 22/02/2010 20:02

Hallo there

I'm just coming up to a week overdue so I feel your pain.

I've just eaten two creme eggs, which have taken my mind off things.

Does that help?

MrsCurly · 22/02/2010 20:15

I am only two days over. But went 8 days over with DC1 and 15 days over with DC2 so I ought to be able to pace myself but I can't.

I tried to tell myself all through the pregnancy that the baby isn't really coming till March, but here I am, grumpy again, marching around trying to take long walks, curries, the usual - none of which worked last time...

Even had acupuncture on my due date but nothing budging at all.

And today I heard a friend who is due tomorrow had her baby on my due date.

TheOldestCat · 22/02/2010 23:47

Oh dear, poor you MrsC. Reckon I'll be in March too (waves goodbye to home birth....). I am very grumpy as well. We can be miserable together.

Now I've heard reflexology can help - wonder if DH will give me a foot massage?

PotPourri · 22/02/2010 23:52

I'm 9 days over and really really fed up. Lots of sweets has cheered me up a bit. But lack of sleep and the time I have spent on old wives tales is getting me down.

think I will go to the cinema tomorrow to see 'It's complicated'. I am sure it will cheer me up as I watched a clip and I love teh actors in it.

I will be induced on Thursday, so at least it's not that far away now.

I agree, it's bloody miserable - not to mention the phone calls and emails etc - are you still there?? Heart in the right place, definately. Just my head not in the right place - grrrr

MrsCurly · 23/02/2010 09:43

When I went 15 days over I wouldn't leave the house in the end. I was so fed up of people asking me if I'd had the baby. I know everyone just meant well but I was so unbelievably grumpy. I got to the point where I decided the baby just wasn't going to come. That was it. It sounds utterly bonkers now but I really did believe it.

I was induced and it was fine. But this time like you TheOldestCat I'm down for homebirth, fingers crossed. And I've got really bad hip pain, just in the last two days.

And I'm desperate to find out if it is a boy or girl!

boardbunny · 23/02/2010 10:18

Today is my due date but not a twinge yet so can I join?!

Trying daily reflexology, I did it at college so have taught my mum the routine to save money! TheOldestCat - the pressure points to do with uterus/reproductive system are around the side and top of the ankle to ask your DH to focus his attention there. Also rubbing in clary sage into bump and sitting on pilates ball but nothing doing.

Have been offered a sweep next Monday if nothing has happened by then but would prefer to avoid that, come on baby! In the meantime creme eggs are a fantastic idea plus have hours of the new series of 24 to catch up on.

PotPourri · 23/02/2010 11:50

Oh poo, nowhere is showing the film I had set my sights on! And it'kll be relased on DVD in May - ages!! I am in a major grump now!! Have spent all morning eating chocolate and crisps...

InmaculadaConcepcion · 23/02/2010 12:08

Don't forget the Feb gang, waiting more or less impatiently...

Mine came 4 weeks early - actually, I could have done with those four weeks to get organised and she could have done with them to get bigger... we're never satisfied, are we?!!

Good luck, Ladies...

bigpantspam · 23/02/2010 13:22

Hello!

My first post on mumsnet, I've been lurking since last summer.

I'm 1 day overdue now... spending too much time in my PJ's... will have to get dressed soon as I now want chocolate after reading this thread and I have to go and get ds from school

I think I might venture to the cinema tomorrow... have to say I am a bit nervous about it all kicking off quickly as ds was born in 4 hours (and he was back to back! Who knows how quickly he would have shot out if he were in the right position!)

MrsCurly · 23/02/2010 14:35

Welcome bigpantspam!I'm sorry your first post is on the grumpy thread.

Today I have been looking on the bright side - as you say Immaculada, we are never satisfied. I had a grown up lunch with an old colleague, something I won't be able to do for a long time very soon. And had a lovely potter in Oxfam Books and the library. Now drinking a cup of rasbperry leaf tea (yuck) with a big slab of chocolate cake.

Sweep tomorrow. What joy!

Ooooh this is exactly what I was looking for - I am 3 days overdue (so same due date as you MrsC I think?) and can feel myself starting to lose the plot, especially as I had SIX HOURS of fake contractions on Sunday night and 2 hours last week so each time I have thought, OK that's it I'll have my baby soon and then it all stops, aaaggghh

I also went 14 days over with DC1 (only 3 over with DC2) so I know the dangers but haven't managed to mentally adjust my due date to 42 weeks which I know is a good sanity-preserver!

potpourri - wow induced in 2 days? How are you feeling

Hope sweeps work MrsCurly and boardbunny

MrsCurly · 23/02/2010 20:13

You had SIX HOURS of fake contractions???!!

Oh my God! Where is the justice in that?

OP posts:
TheOldestCat · 23/02/2010 20:20

Hey boardbunny- thanks for massage tips! Just waiting for DH to get DD down and he can get started. Lucky him....

MrsCurly - fingers crossed for our homebirths.

Inmaculada - congrats again on Rosie. Hope all's going well.

We all seem fairly jolly considering.

My friend had this - have you had that baby yet? as her faceboook status when she was in a similar state and I'm finding it quite useful.

MrsCurly · 23/02/2010 20:30

oh I'm going to nick that! That has cheered me up. x

PotPourri · 23/02/2010 21:44

Hi girls. Well, I spent all day doing sod all, mumsnetting, and eating. Then this evening I got a bit of a bloody show - not much, but definately a show. I'm feeling ok now as I will be going in tomorrow night if nothing happens, and there is something to be said for being able to plan around it. Just repacked my bag so all set to go.

Think I am going to get down the library tomorrow and order some box set DVDs for the breastfeeding sessions!

6 hours - that's cruel for it not to happen!

PotPourri · 24/02/2010 10:36

Any baby action girls?

I'm still getting jelly stuff coming away nice! but no contractions, head not even feeling down or anything. Still, I'm pleased that my body is finally doing something, might make the induction go more smoothly.

It snowed big style last night so am getting a bit concerned about being snowed in! Oh well, if I can just get to the hospital this evening the rest will all take care of itself.

DrSkidaddle · 24/02/2010 13:02

Good luck for the induction potpourri - you never know - you might not need it yet!

Love that link TheOldestCat - wish I could pin it to my forehead...

Nothing here although had a good night's sleep for a change so today would be a good day (if anyone is listening...)

Did anyone watch One Born Every Minute last night? Water birth for me please!

MrsCurly · 24/02/2010 13:40

No sweep for me this morning - the midwife says the baby's head is free, so she didn't want to do it without me having a scan first to check for placenta praevia.

The head was engaged before - 4/5, 3/5, 2/5 - but last week the babe reversed for some unknown reason. So off to hospital in ten mins for a scan which I am hugely excited about. Haven't seen the baby since my 12 week scan in August. If all is well I'm going to ask for a sweep afterwards. But really looking forward to seeing the baby. Might even find out the sex if I can!

Hope things have started for you PotPourri so you can go naturally.

OP posts:
boardbunny · 24/02/2010 14:43

Good luck MrsCurly! I had a scan 2 weeks ago when they thought we were breech - we weren't but was nice to see baby again.

I am now Officially Overdue, had back pain for half an hour earlier so was crossing my fingers it was all kicking off but no such luck. Saw midwife, sweep has been moved from next Monday to Wednesday. So I have come home and baked a cake and to catch up with the Vampire Diaries, thought some mindless American teenage tosh and a slice of marble cake would take my mind off things for a while!

DrSkidaddle · 24/02/2010 17:08

ooh how exciting MrsCurly! How come you didn't have a 20 week scan? Are you in the UK? Hope you get your sweep too. I don't have another MW appt now so no sweep for me - I just have to ring this week to book an induction for 42 weeks

boardbunny - I also had a scan a few weeks ago because they thought he was breech (also wasn't) - was lovely to see him and saw his willy very clearly! Just as well we already knew we were having a boy! Cake and crap telly sounds like a great plan... I have come into work in my desperation!

MrsCurly · 24/02/2010 20:36

I'm in Scotland. I didn't have a 20 weeks scan because I live in a tight health authority. Or one with other more pressing priorities if you want to be more charitable. It's my third pregnancy and I've never had a 20 week scan. In fact they are introducing them here now - I think people who are getting pregnant just now will have one.

The other significant thing about being in Scotland is that the cut off for school entry is 28th Feb. If your child is born in Dec / Jan / Feb you get to choose whether to put them in to school when they are 4 and therefore be the youngest in the year, or wait until they are 5 (and hence on of the older ones). So if the baby comes out before the end of the weekend I will get to choose. Monday or later and it goes in to the next school year.

The scan today was really amazing. Saw its face, everything. It was very very moving. And a had a sweep as well. Plus acupuncture this morning. And we're having curry tonight! All guns blazing.

TheOldestCat · 25/02/2010 07:23

Morning ladies

How are you all today?

Hope the sweep/acupuncture/curry has set things off for you, MrsC. DrSkiddadle and boardbunny and everyone else, labour vibes for you too.

I couldn't have a proper sweep yesterday as my retroverted cervix (it points backwards and upwards!) wouldn't let the midwife get access, so she booked me in for an induction on Tuesday. But I've just had a bloody show and a few aches so I think (fingers crossed) things are starting.

It took four days from this point with DD so cautiously optimistic...

Good luck all.

Kaffy · 25/02/2010 10:24

Morning

First time on here! I am confused as my dating scan due date was 16 Feb but my original due date i was given (worked out from time of conception/last cycle etc) is today - so the two dates are 9 days apart.

Had midwife yesterday for stretch and sweep but no joy, she couldnt get access to my cervix and said baby was nowhere near ready. She spoke to my hospital and because the 16 Feb is the due date they gave me from the dating scan they want to go with that, making me 9 days overdue today - they want me in for induction tomorrow.

Problem is I don't want to be induced unless there is a medical issue for either baby or me - dont fancy the idea of induction one little bit.... plus if you go on my other due date then it's too early for induction, the baby obviously isnt ready. I have heard hospitals can put pressue on you to be induced.

Don't know what to do, any similar experiences or ideas?!
Thanks
